Commander Foster - Therapy Tribbles and Touchbases

A’Mayri: If I and perhaps Ensign Munshi are able to assist in future projects for Bay 42, the skills and experience we would gain under the Lieutenant would be most optimal.
Wyn’s antennae tipped forward as if to say he agreed with that course of action. Lieutenant Zel Rohan (Wyn still hadn’t figured out if it was Lieutenant Zel or Lieutenant Rohan because Zel Rohan himself seemed to change it on a whim) kept messaging command to get additional resources into Bay 42, stating the need for the ships when the StarBase was once again running increased intelligence missions.
And Wyn didn’t disagree, especially after the last mission.
Foster: And is there anything I can do to help you achieve these goals?
A’Mayri: ::unexpected slow blink at the last question:: Your…open communication has been insightful, sir. I also felt that whatever reasoning there had been in assigning the previous mission groups was both insightful and opening for realizations I’m having within myself. I will continue to trust our leadership's judgement and orders.
His antennae tipped forward, interested in the feedback. He also realized how obtuse and strange missions and mission teams seemed when he was an Ensign – and how slowly as he gained ranks he learned that often times the pairings came down to very academic, impersonal reasons like compatible skillsets or previous experience.
And yet when you set those teams into action, the universe had a way of uncovering things like teamwork, personality conflicts – or personality compatibility – and a whole host of other things that went far beyond the academic.
A’Maryi: With your honest opinion sir, are there any improvements or taskers you see that I need to address better or actively improve on until our next mission?
Foster: I think your engineering work is solid, ensign. Your ability to work with your teammates is also excellent. So mission wise, no notes. I want to make sure you have the time and ability to settle in to StarBase 118, your new quarters and everything here on the StarBase before piling on more. So my notes are – remember to take some time to let yourself and your mind rest and recharge.
Which he knew could be very difficult for a Starfleet officers, many of which wanted to always be working.
That was him when he was younger as well.
A’Mayri: ::Small nod.:: Yes sir, Thank you. I will keep this in mind going into the next mission.
Foster: I know you’ll do a good job. Be confident in your skills and abilities.
He smiled, meaning it. He was proud of the work she had done last mission – especially since it was her first mission.
A’Mayri: I- ::eyes flickered to the orange tribble on the desk:: Are your therapy tribbles open for future interactions?
He tipped his antennae forward in a nod and plucked the fluffy orange one, holding it out.
Foster: Oh yeah, they do wonders for your autonomic nervous system. This one’s Lydia.
The tribble cooed gently.
A’Mayri: ?
Foster: Tribbles are intersexed, able to reproduce asexually – so I just give them names and call them whatever. And actually, every few years, I need to selectively breed new offspring because my therapy tribbles have a lifespan of 2-5 years. So That’s Lydia number three? She’s especially fuzzy.
She was a majestic ball of fluff, with deep orange fur.
A’Mayri: ?
Foster: I like these talks ::he admitted pleasantly:: So if you want to keep doing a check in after each mission, you can give the tribbles some attention and we can touch base.
A’Mayri: ?
Foster: Beyond that – it’s all about enjoying the rest of shore leave. We’ll have a crew party before the next mission, and then we’ll see what else Starfleet has in store for us.
A’Mayri: ?
