((StarBase 118 Academy Campus – Campus Green))

There are moments in life where you are so overcome by excitement that you absolutely must do a cartwheel. Bad luck for many who don't know how to do a cartwheel. But Ensign Ysatch Tori was not one of those people.

Hands planted in the grass, he whipped his feet over his head then landed back again upright, performing a quick tug down on his uniform jumpsuit in case it had shifted mid-flight. He turned to his lone companion, Ensign A'Mayri, with a sheepish grin on his face.

Ysatch: ::blushing slightly:: Sorry, it was a tradition I had with my friend Vhira. Any time something really good happened to one of us, we'd do a cartwheel.

A'Mayri: ?

Tori hadn't known the Vulcan ensign for most of the academy. But they had been grouped together for the graduation cruise and he got to see first-hand her skills. He was glad they were moving on to their first assignment together, even if he did seem to be coming up with new ways to look foolish whenever they were together.

In the distance, he could see the commodore walking across the lawn to meet them. He did one last check to see if his uniform was askew and snapped to attention, doing his best to project Starfleet professionalism.

Taybrim: Good afternoon Ensigns.  I am Commodore Sal Taybrim. I would like to officially welcome you onboard StarBase 118 operations.

Ysatch: Thank you Commodore. It means a lot to be meeting you in person after all we've heard going on in recent days.

A’Mayri: ?

Taybrim: Ah yes, some of the rumors I am sure are true.  There was a strange energy pulse that affected the memories of the crew, but the good news is by now it is under control and I expect we’ll get an all clear from medical shortly. That said, there’s no cases in the academy, and there are no incidents of anyone being affected after the initial pulse so I believe the three of us are safe.

oO Oh, is that all? Oo

Ysatch: Understood, Commodore. Sounds like it's in-hand.

A’Mayri: ?

Taybrim: Usually I would bring newly assigned Ensigns on a tour of the station. But considering the circumstances I think it more prudent to travel as a trio to the hub where we can keep an eye on things.

A’Mayri: ?

Ysatch: Makes sense.

Taybrim: The hub will also give you both a better feeling of how the systems work on StarBase 118, and let you see the ships we use to explore the Trinity Sector.

Ysatch: ::beaming with excitement:: I actually spent most of my childhood on Federation starbases. Getting to see the command decks is quite exciting.

A’Mayri: ?

Taybrim: Come, let’s head to the hub and I encourage you to ask any questions you have while we travel.

A’Mayri: ?

As they walked across the grass toward the turbolift station, Tori internally flipped through the list of questions he wanted to ask and began to filter out the ones that made him look unserious. That accounted for the majority of them. He started with what was left.

Ysatch: I've read the briefing packet for the region, but as the commanding officer, I wanted to get a sense from you what the biggest issues facing Federation interests are in this sector.

Taybrim/A'Mayri: ?

As they stepped across the threshold into the lift, Ysatch congratulated himself for maintaining the veneer of Starfleet professionalism. He felt like he was really nailing it.

So of course that was the moment the cuff of his d'ja pagh earring -- loosened from the early cartwheel -- decided to fall off and hang suspended from his earlobe.

Ysatch: ::flustered and adjusting earring:: Sorry! I'm sorry. That's the first time that's ever happened, I swear!

Taybrim/A'Mayri: ?
