OOC: Taking some liberties from Strange New Worlds regarding the use of tactical uniforms in the 25th century. Pictures for reference at the end.

((Main Security - Deck 2))

Handled was not particularly the wording Haukea would have provided. Prepared was more like it. While she often entered into assignments completely blind, having chosen to forego reading the provided material, her individual opinion was formed on the spot, compiled from each officer and civilian she collaborated with. Yet, she selected her security team personally. If allowed she would have placed Marsh, Wethern and several other competent senior officers as members. However, Marsh and Wethern had other skill sets that were required. Even so, she trusted them with her life to have her back during a crisis. Her security personnel were no different.

McLaren: We'll only know that when the time arrives.

Willow: Until then we have to consider who would have access to the camp, along with further courses of action regarding how long and where they would be staying long term, outside of The Narendra.

Brynn:  I think that’s something we can tackle when we get back to 118.

Haukea personally or professionally had nothing against 1st Lt. Brynn. The Lt. considered the situation logically, her opinions were valuable. Still, as chief of security, Haukea wanted to scratch her skin off, equally as much initially when tasked to sickbay. She personally had to consider all possibilities and that included both temporary and permanent arrangements for the estranged personnel of both ships before, during and after rescue.

McLaren: It's probably better we have something planned in the eventuality we can't bring everyone back to 118.

Willow: We can’t spare resources indefinitely. Tell me. Any Starbases nearby?

1st Lt. Brynn effortlessly referenced the sector map on her PADD. Certainly Starbase 118 was available, however the distance was great. Likewise, 118 wasn’t ideal for an estranged crew figuring out next steps. Less so if they were Romulan.

Brynn: Actually, we aren’t overly far from Deep Space Four. ::pause:: DS4 might be a good stopping off place, especially if we have Romulans aboard.

Willow: DS4 will likely have more suitable accommodations. Security personnel, combined with Starfleet brass, will be able to contact families, Romulan leaders and provide passage to their next steps. I am confident in my team’s ability, yet, that is far more than we are equipped for.

McLaren: Very true.

Brynn:  Do we even know which kind of Romulan ship we are trying to rescue or their crew complement?

Haukea made entirely little effort to search for more information when none could be found. Additional information would equally cloud her judgment, shadowing her ability to operate unbiased. She thus far had a basic understanding of the scientific operations of a standard black hole, the possibility of rescue, given their position relative to the stellar object, and the medical associations. Further information, to her, felt entirely unnecessary. Though she had to consider the implications of a possible large compliment from both vessels. A numerous crew complement could deplete resources at a significant rate that they possibly could not afford. Yet, she had no way of knowing what any size crew would entail until the rescue had been successful.

Willow: I am uncertain. McLaren?

McLaren: ::Shrugging:: Last I heard the type was 'warbird'... which admittedly is not as helpful as you might think.

Brynn:  Do you think we should start gathering items and getting them into the right area?

Willow: Ideally. I’ll contact my team.

McLaren: Yeah we can probably get things started.

Brynn: We could order some of the portable replicators to be brought.

Communicating via written messages often was more efficient than a verbal comm-call. Her security detail needed little more to complete their task. If any events of significance appeared, they would call. Thus, she sent a combined message to officers Anthony and Daisy.

A completed status report from Lt. Andrews was also reported. An isolinear chip back-up of computer systems had been successfully created. Haukea herself would take possession of the item.

Willow: It may be best to evaluate the armory first before establishing a camp. While I am naturally a trusting individual, I take my position as chief seriously, no possibility is left untouched.

McLaren herself nodded, while Brynn’s jaw seemed to set into a hard line. Haukea, on the other hand, considered the variety of weaponry reinforcements required. Surely a large majority of crew considered it wise to be equipped with hand phasers, on the off chance of boarding or hostile refugees. Yet, as chief, the Risian was determined to acquire not only the standard type II hand phaser but likewise take possession, borrowing, several items from the marine company; Such as the standard phaser rifle and combat tricorder.

Furthermore, the armory, while not strictly listed within the Narendra’s deck layout, was located numerous decks below their position on deck 21, containing secondary security, alongside the brig. It was there she would prefer to dress in tactical gear, plated uniform additions that provided additional boosting of protection against phase and further combat weapons such as knives, bat'leths, and even the occasional fist. And while not strictly necessary within modern 25th century standards, it was a staple within tactical and security fields since as far back as the 23rd century.

Currently the chief did not anticipate a strictly necessary use of weapons or combat proceedings, besides, it did well to indicate the importance of safety measures through far more than merely words.

Willow: I want no stone left untouched - lesson seven of security.

It inevitably circled back to those lessons, which in some respects had become the cornerstone of the security posting.

McLaren: A good lesson to follow.

Brynn: It’s always best to be prepared.

Willow: We cannot afford to bring unknown individuals aboard unless we can protect ourselves first.

Despite limited anticipation of a breach in security, it was natural, as wanting to dawn armor was, that she could not and would not, disregarding her typically open, willing nature, to allow refugees aboard The Narendra unless she could guarantee safety, combined with survival for her own crew. One could not assist further individuals if they could not assist themselves first.

McLaren: I agree. What say we evaluate the armory, then begin getting things set up.

Brynn: That sounds like a plan.

McLaren: Hopefully by that time, we'll know a little more about what we'll be dealing with from the bridge.

Brynn:  News has been a little sparse.

Perhaps news traveled at a leisurely pace since there was hardly any news for which to travel at all? Haukea however sympathized with those around her. The lack of quality information, data and planned proceedings, was disconcerting, leading to few available courses of action in which to take all together.

Provided leeway by Brynn, Haukea stocked forward, at most 1% uncharacteristically of herself. Now, having spent a significantly prolonged amount of time analyzing the situation, the chief was determined to follow the path towards a certain amount of action. The entire situation was intensifying.

Willow: Perhaps there is no news with which to travel? Yet we need to make headway for deck 21, secondary security.

McLaren: ::Nodding, following along after the pair:: Or maybe they'll be bringing people aboard for us to meet with... I don't know.

It wasn’t an entirely unpleasant or unwelcome sensation, yet the entirety of the Narendra gyrated, sending the 1st Lt. sprawling into the nearby bulkhead. Tactical, survival, security and armory training instinctually contributed, causing the chief to duck and roll, wishing immensely that she had a phaser on hand.

Brynn: Any idea what that was?

Willow: We must have taken a hit!

Haukea-Willow scrambled to her feet, marching determinedly to the nearest alcove, body hidden, peering around the corner. That combat tricorder would have likewise been a wished for item at present. Nevertheless the coast was relatively clear.

Brynn on the other hand continued to access data on her PADD.

Brynn: It looks like we hit a spacial eddy.

Willow: Hell’s bells. ::The exclamation was directed toward the situation rather than a direct representation of emotion:: Can we anticipate more?

McLaren: Response

Brynn:  Apparently we’re going to have to be careful.  There are several more incoming.  We need to be careful as we make our way along.

Haukea could tell their pace was desperate. She wanted, in all sense of the word, to escape deck two and transport rather quickly to deck 21, secondary security. However, if the spacial eddy, which conveniently was an extremely powerful and potentially destructive phenomenon formed in an interfold layer at the confluence of space and subspace, it was likely the black hole they orbited was intertwined with such eddies. Furthermore, due to their sheer volatile nature, power could be damaged to areas such as turbolifts. In that specific case a long leborious climb downward through the jeffries tubes would be required.

Willow: Making it to deck 21 has got to be quick.

McLaren: Response

Brynn:  According to this. ::She waved the PADD in the air:: the next one will come along in several minutes.

McLaren: Response

Haukea-Willow moved swiftly from her position in the alcove, heading forward to the closest LCARS display. Underneath she pried up the existing panel, exposing three or four extremely basic hand held phasers, doing no better than a mere stun and run. She certainly much preferred the advanced weaponry contained in the armory. Yet, protection of any sort was far preferred. Grasping one phaser she secured it snuggly within the waistband of her uniform. Two others she grasped, calling out to Brynn and McLaren.

Willow: ::Holding two phasers:: Catch! ::Underhandedly she tossed the two phasers to Brynn and McLaren::

McLaren/Brynn: Response

Willow: I highly doubt we have been boarded due to your statement of spacial eddies. Yet, our own personal safety comes first. Stun only.

McLaren/Brynn: Response

After having replaced the wall panel Haukea returned to the next alcove, phaser now grasped in two hands, pointed at a 45 degree downward angle as she advanced along the length of the corridor, the turbolift located at the far end.

Willow: Is there any way to tell whether or not the eddy has cut power to the nearest turbolift? Otherwise it’s a 19 deck hike through the jeffries tubes in order to suit up.

McLaren/Brynn: Response
