(OOC: FYI - Nagazi has regressed to when he was kept as a captive by a syndicate of Klingon pirates and forced to fight other captives to the death for entertainment and gambling.)

((Quark's, Promenade, StarBase 118))

The Grizzela’s eyes flitted from one person to the other. Taking in their reactions. Their stances. Generally, Nagazi moved slowly. Ponderously, one might say. But when it was time for action, he was shockingly swift. He hadn’t survived years being forced to fight to the death by luck.

For the time being, he simply watched.

S’zurak: You sssurprise me, Lieutenant. Klingon?

Fazek shrieked.

Fazek: A Klingon conspiracy! I knew Starfleet was somehow involved in this!

Sylvax: I’m asking him to stand down. Calmly. And informing him that

killing someone here isn’t worth the aftermath.

The Klingon hesitated. Then... slowly... his fists unclenched.

Clearly the doctor’s words had had *some* effect.

Nagazi turned back to the Ferengi.

Nagazi: Is this man’s quarrel with you?

Perhaps there had been a dispute over payment or something. The Ferengi, in general, had a reputation that was not entirely undeserved, after all.

Fazek: Ah, what do I know! Drunken customers, and Klingon too? They always have somethingworth fighting about. I was out on the street when it all happened! Ask your friend!

He pointed at the heaving crewman who looked as he rued the day he had arrived on this base.

S’zurak: Are you sssure it was unwarranted?

For the briefest of moments, Nagazi felt… faint? Almost dizzy.

He remembered the crewman who had previously been trying to calm the Klingon down. The man was wearing a security uniform and yet Nagazi didn’t recognise him. His bear-like brow furrowed. Surely he should recognise one of his colleagues?

Then he looked at the Klingon.

The man had seemed to calm down slightly, but was still breathing heavily and… was he looking at Nagazi? Why did he seem angry at him? Had Nagazi done something to upset this man?

The Grizzela blinked, then looked around.

The Ferengi. A Gorn… S’zurak? Yes, Lt. S’zurak. And Lt. Sylvax.

What were they doing here again?

Nagazi: Sorry, Lieutenants. What is the situation here?

S’zurak: What do you… mean?

Sylvax: Lieutenant... don’t move. Both of you. I need you to focus on

me. Do you know where you are?

Fazek: What is going on here?! ::his voice raising in fury:: I demand

to speak to an officer of competence!

Nagazi looked down at the Ferengi. He was beginning to get on his nerves.

The Grizzela snarled ever so slightly and flexed a clawed hand almost imperceptibly.

Nagazi: What is your problem, Ferengi?

Fazek: ::hissing:: My problem... is the irreparable damage this will

do on my business!

Nagazi’s frown deepened and his fists clenched a little more.

He was about to say *something* back to the Ferengi, he wasn’t quite sure what, but before he had the chance, there was a movement to his left and a shout.

He turned, quickly, unsure of what was happening, but starting to suspect that he may have to defend himself.

S’zurak: ::pointing to the Klingon:: He is not leaving.

The Grizzela followed the Gorn’s pointing hand. A Klingon.

Nagazi snarled again,. Louder this time. Was this man one of his captors?

What was going on? Why was he in such a big, open space like this?

Sylvax: S’zurak... stand down. I need you to lower your weapon and let

me assess you before this escalates.

Now there was someone else shouting. Why? He seemed to know the Gorn. Who were these people?

Nagazi had turned his head ever so slightly to see who the person was, but mere moments later, the Klingon suddenly roared and surged forward.

Everything collapsed into chaos. Light flared. The Klingon dropped

mid-stride, body locking as he slammed into the deck. The Ferengi

shrieked.

Fazek: OPEN FIRE?! In MY BAR? ::he turned around towards the other

officers:: DO something about this!

The man who had shouted a moment ago - a Trill? - spun towards Nagazi, as if he was expecting the Grizzela to do something?

Sylvax: Security, hold position. No additional force... this Klingon

is incapacitated, not neutralized.

Nagazi looked down. He was wearing a Starfleet uniform. Now he was really confused. Was this some kind twisted simulation that his captors had put him in with these people? Was he going to have to kill them?

The Ferengi and the Trill shouldn’t be a problem. Was that why the Trill was telling him “no additional force”?

The Klingon had already been taken down, but Nagazi didn’t like the look of the Gorn. Then again, any of them *could* be dangerous if they’d all been provided with weapons, which, as he glanced at his hip, he noticed he also had.

Nagazi: Are you talking to me?

Something was happening that was drawing the attention of the others, but Nagazi continued to stare at the Trill. He was also in a Starfleet uniform.

Fazek: I want you all out of my bar! Immediately! You CANNOT shoot my

customers like that!

The Trill raised his hands slightly, seemingly trying to calm the Ferengi down.

Sylvax: No one is being harmed further. Yelling will not improve

outcomes... for anyone.

This man seemed to think he was in charge. Why did he think he could order anyone around like this?

Nagazi: Who *are* you?

But before the man could answer, the Gorn rose and threw the unconscious Klingon across the floor.

S’zurak: No one touchesss him.

The Gorn seemed to be claiming the Klingon like a trophy. This was the strangest situation the pirates had ever put Nagazi in. None of it made any sense. Why had they thrown one of their own into the arena? Had he done something wrong? And… was the Gorn wearing a Starfleet uniform as well? Yes. He was.

Most of all, why couldn’t Nagazi remember how he’d ended up here? Had the pirates used the memory wipe on him again? But if they had, for what reason?

Fazek: What, is he going to eat him now?!

Sylvax: Absolutely not. He’s relocating the detainee away from

civilians. That is all.

There he went again. The Trill was attempting to exude authority, though Nagazi could tell he was nervous. That was something you learned to read when you were forced to fight other captives to the death.

Nagazi: Who are you to speak for anyone? We are all in the same situation here.

Suddenly, Nagazi became aware of two more Klingons. Guards?

Klingon 1: What is he going to do! He has no right to detain him like this!

S’zurak: ?

Fazek: NO customer will be CONSUMED in my bar!! Do something about this!!

The Ferengi shoved Nagazi forward, directly into the Gorn’s space.

The Grizzela snarled, immediately taking a defensive posture in front of the Gorn. This was not how he wanted to deal with the situation. He would have let the Gorn tire himself with the Klingons first, while he swiftly dispatched the Ferengi and the Trill, but now the Ferengi had made the decision for him.

He made a mental note to rip the snivelling little rodent's head off the moment he had the chance.

Planting his feet, he waited for the Gorn to attack, but instead, the Trill flew in between the two of them.

Was he crazy?!

Sylvax: Stop. Everyone stop. Take a breath. No one is being harmed

right now, and no one needs to escalate this further.

Nagazi: It’s survival, Trill. I’d think carefully about what you’re doing, if I were you.

Nagazi didn’t *want* to kill any of them. He never did. But it was them or him. He had no choice.

S'zurak: ?

Fazek: After this, you will be banned from the house! All of you!

There was the Ferengi again. Why did these two think they could speak this way. Didn’t they realise how much danger they were in?

Sylvax: You can file whatever complaints you like, Fazek. Right now,

I’m preventing further injury... to your patrons and my officers. I

suggest you let me do my job.

Nagazi: And what exactly *is* your job?

Was he working with the pirates? Was that where his confidence came from?

S'zurak: ?

The Trill was focused on the Gorn. Good. Maybe the Trill would distract the Gorn for long enough that Nagazi could take advantage of the opportunity. He’d never fought a Gorn before. Even the Klingons weren’t usually crazy enough to try to capture a Gorn.

The Grizzela wasn’t totally confident of his chances, but nobody had beaten him yet.

Sylvax: S’zurak. Step back. That’s an order.

An order? Something was definitely wrong here.

Still, Nagazi stayed in his defensive posture. He wasn’t about to let anyone trick him into letting his guard down.

Sylvax: You’re escalating this. I need you to release him. Now.

S'zurak: ?

Whoever this person was, he truly believed that he was in charge here. Now, he addressed Nagazi.

Sylvax: Ensign Nagazi... look at me.

Nagazi: Ensign?

Sylvax: Help me get him clear. Medical transport posture only. No

restraints unless I say otherwise.

For the first time since this whole thing had begun, Nagazi loosened up ever so slightly.

Nagazi: I do not understand what is happening here, but I will help you.

The man seemed trustworthy, for some reason. He didn’t *seem* to be a threat. Something was happening here that was beyond Nagazi’s understanding, but this was not the normal scenario he would find himself in when in the arena.

Maybe this man was his key to getting out of here. After all, he was in a Starfleet uniform and he was confident enough to stand between a Grizzela and a Gorn and issue orders.

Sylvax: S’zurak. You’re not hunting. You’re assisting medical. Release

him and stand down.

There was a moment of tension. Nagazi relaxed his posture and drew himself to his full height, attempting to show the Gorn that he wasn’t going to fight.

Nagazi: S’zurak, I do not know who these people are, or why we are here, but I think we should trust this man.

This might be his chance to go free. He didn’t want anyone to compromise that.

He also didn’t want to have to fight a Gorn if he didn’t have to.

S'zurak/Fazek:?

Nagazi: He’s Starfleet. If we help him, maybe *he* can help *us*.

He turned to the Trill, expectantly.

Sylvax: Response

S’zurak/Fazek: Responses
