((A’Mayri’s Quarters, Starbase 118))
A’Mayri was known to be punctual, well collected and often—over prepared. This was not one of those times. For the first time since her first year in the academy, and before then her adolescence…shewould be late. Not terribly so, but enough that she would think about her late arrival like a blunder to her self-control.
Vulcans are not unfeeling, they are in fact a species that feels too much too strongly. That is why to survive, her species decided long ago that the best course for long term survival was to release vestigial passions and reach a state of pure logical intellect.
A’Mayri was only half Vulcan and thus allowed herself to feel this small bout of what she could only describe as self-inflicted embarrassment.
Thankful for her genetic resilience and trained discipline, she internalized her physical discomfort to get through preparations for the awards ceremony at the Starlight Ballroom. After having been able to collect her personal belongings from her home planet, A’Mayri wore one of her non-replicated formal dresses. A deep wine red, sharp on the shoulders and long sleeved. Her hair was straightened and worn down, slicked back and neat. She accessorized with simple gold bracers and her shawl that she draped over her head and folded over her shoulder, as well as dark brown leather pointed ballet flats.
(( Deck 499 - Corridor ))
The Starlight Ballroom from the directory seemed easy to locate as A’Maryi’s footsteps echoed in the corridor. She hadn’t seen another member of her crew yet, but the universe changed this when a second set of footsteps started to grow louder from behind where she paused.
McLaren: A'Mayri, headed to the ballroom?
A’Maryi instantly recognized the XO and offered her a polite bow of her head. The red dress looked lovely paired with the corset and the necklace in her quick scan over the senior officer.
A'Mayri: Good Evening Ma’am, I am indeed. oO A relief to see I am not the only one not as prompt to the ceremony. Oo I was not expecting to see such a well-established socialite space so early in my time here. I have heard that it has hosted many great events and is quite hard to acquire for usage.
Sol nodded, pointing down the corridor as her dark eyes tracked the movement.
McLaren: It's just this way. The ballroom itself is amazing... nice view out into the docking area.
A great view in the vast silence of space, surrounded by her crew mates who had made it all mostly safe? The idea contributed to her reasoning that pushing past some discomfort was more than logical.
A'Mayri: That sounds most pleasant. Shall we? ::Politely lifting her while stepping to the side to let Sol lead the way.:: A’Mayri quietly walked beside Sol as they moved further down the corridor. Just as they were about to cross into the junction, a familiar and new face came into view. She was relieved and happy to see Tori while curious at the Caitian female beside him.
Lorana: Just when I thought we might never escape from this deck!
Ysatch: Commander! A'Mayri! This is embarrassing but we seem to have gotten a bit turned around looking for the ballroom.
McLaren: Luxa, Tori. :: She smiled. :: Not surprising, most people don't have a reason to come up this way often.
It was nice to see familiar faces again and outside of mission tones. As happy as A’Mayri internally felt, her posture remained straight with her hands neatly folded in front of her. The colors that surrounded her were styled well and she was relieved that she decided against wearing her dress uniform again.
A’Mayri: ::polite nod with the ghost of a smile:: Good evening Tori, and the same to you as well ::another polite nod to Luxa:: Live long and Prosper, I am Ensign A’Mayri serving in Engineering.
Tori quickly turned back to the Caitian woman with what A’Mayri recognized as his usually genuine and awkwardly charming self.
Ysatch: Prophets! Sorry, I was so preoccupied with being lost, I didn't introduce myself. Ensign Ysatch Tori -- just Tori to my friends.
Lorana: ?
Turning back to the Commander and A'Mayri, Tori adopted a hopeful smile.
Ysatch: Please tell me one of you knows how to get to the Starlight Ballroom?
Sol nodded while A’Mayri remained in place and content.
McLaren: Not to worry, I know exactly where it is.
A’Mayri: Our paths had crossed just moments ago, perhaps it would be most advantageous to proceed forward as a collective?
Sol pointed down one of the corridors that lead toward the inner sections of the station.
McLaren: Just down this way... not too far.
Lorana/Ysatch: ?
When the procession of sharply dressed goers started towards the ballroom, A’Mayri kept her pace with the group. She was content again to listen to them chat as she realised how quiet the corridors were in the later hours.
It gave her a moment to mentally file that delegating internal resources towards preset internal standards when expanding said energy was…unecessary when the conditions didn’t require it from her.
In summary, she shouldn’t be embarrassed for being late when nobody was going to see it as an issue.
McLaren: Everyone looking lovely tonight. :: She paused. :: Luxa that dress is gorgeous on you,
A’Mayri: ::subtle and playful side eye to Tori:: Indeed, the multi-colored suit jacket is fitting of Tori’s general presentation of his tepul– or in translation, ‘energy and aura.’ ::to Luxa::The green in comparison to your fur is aesthetically pleasing in paired color theory, Diplomat Lorana. ::to Sol:: You as well Ma’am, the corset is a complimentary addition to the red coloring of your dress.
Lorana/Ysatch/McLaren: ?
A’Mayri: The last award ceremony was pleasantly hosted on Raskor II. The beach and relaxed dress code makes me curious as to how often such ceremonies are regulated or standardized.
The memory of the warm sand and exposure to her first taste of Starfleet celebration was treasured. It was the first ceremony, and the same one that she and Tori were introduced to the Ops crew. Soon the newcomers would have the same introductions and she wondered if they would feel just as awed– then again Luxa seemed the type who was comfortable in these spaces. The Caitian’s ease in the environment and around her XO suggested she was familiar with such events. For her fellow Ensign Ivalyan? A’Maryi hoped the Antosian would find enjoyment within the mass of the celebration.
Lorana/Ysatch/McLaren: ?
After a short but pleasant walk through the corridors under Sol’s guidance, the sliding double doors of a turbolift centered into the room came into view. A’Mayri stepped forward, her sleeve splitting over her forearm as she activated the doors to hiss open.
A’Mayri: After you all. ::stepping to the side, her arm held out and hand politely pointed towards the lift:: I believe it would be poetically acceptable to say that a Starlight Ballroom requires its stars to be in attendance?
Lorana/Ysatch/McLaren: ?
