((Deck 4, Corridor outside of the Main Shuttlebay, USS Narendra))

Brynn could almost see the mental quibble going on in his brain.  What was the right thing to do?  As a doctor, he likely wanted to stay with her and get her to safety.  Well, at least if she was a doctor that’s what she’d want to do.  But he had a greater responsibility to the ship.  He was the Executive Offier, the second in charge, someone responsible for the entire ship if something happened to Commander Fairhug.

Foster: My first duty is to keep you safe…

Brynn:  I’m just one person.  There is an entire ship that needs saving.  You may be the one who needs to set us on the correct path.

He didn’t just look at her.  He looked into her.  Abi thought he really saw her not just as a crew member, but as a person whose life counted.

Foster: You are not expendable.

Brynn:  Yes, but you’re the XO, and this is your ship.  Stash me somewhere relatively safe and do what you need to do.

Abi could see some kind of conflict inside of him before he answered her.

Foster:  Ok, you’re coming with me and we’ll see what we can do.

Brynn:  Okay.  If you’re sure.  You are the XO afterall.  So what do we do next then?

Brynn’s stomach went all wonky on her as he repositioned the sled.

Foster: I’m going to shift the slant of the sled and get you stabilized and more upright, That way you can see better.

And a second later, she was nearly standing, but not quite.  What was more unsettling was the way she wasn’t holding herself in place, but she wasn’t sliding off of the gurney.  Her brain wasn’t sure it liked that feeling, and it conducted a discussion of the situation with her stomach to see if they needed to take a unanimous course of action.  Abi swallowed hard trying to quiet her internal organs.  Instead she focused on the positive.

Brynn:  My neck thanks you.  It had been a bit uncomfortable from looking around in my supine position.

Foster: I’m not gonna keep a phaser out of your hands. ::he started to mess with the torso containment field.:: There, I can even give you some better arm movement.

Abi was slightly unsettled as the feeling of the blanket lightened around her elbow and wrist.  But upon hearing that Foster was going to give her a phaser, she looked between her - now free - hand and Wyn twice as she tried to make sure she was hearing what she thought she was hearing.

Brynn: You’re going to trust me with a phaser, while I’m reclined on a gurney?  :: She looked at him sideways and quirked her eyebrows.::  You’re braver than I thought.

He pushed her into a nearby lab… likely a science lab and turned her around to face the door.  So she was reclined at ¾ of a standing position, unable to move, and yet she was facing the door.  Oo If someone walks in here, this is going to be rather awkward. oO

Foster: I’m going move forward, see if they’re dressed as crew or like the Romulans we picked up. If they’re dressed as crew, I can talk to them and they’ll likely try to maintain their cover.

Brynn: And if they aren’t dressed as Romulans?  Are you going to try to get any information out of them?

She watched as he shook his head.

Foster: Intel is not my specialty, but if they come looking for you – here’s a phaser.

Foster placed the phaser in her hand.  So now, she was able to move her head, her wrist, and her hand, but that was it.

Brynn: I think you have more faith in me than I have at the moment.  You sure you wanna do this?

He ignored her question.  She took offense to it for the slightest moment, but then she realized that she probably would have ignored that same question, or she would have answered something along the lines of ‘of course not, but it’s the right thing to do.’

Foster: If they look like the ones we brought onboard I’m just going to stun first and ask questions later. If somebody wants to throw a diplomatic book at me, I’ll take it.

Brynn :  With everything going on, I think that would be a reasonable course of action.  I think Commander Fairhug and even Commodore Taybrim would say the same thing.

Foster:  ?

Brynn watched him.  She could see the care etched into his face.  She didn’t know if it was more for him or for her or for the ship or even a combination of the three.  She opened her mouth to say something, but it hung there for a moment before she could manage…

Brynn:  Please be careful.

Normally, she would have followed that statement with the word “Commander.”  And while she respected the hell outta Wyn, she also - in this moment - found the title to be impersonal and calloused, especially knowing what he could be walking into.  She wanted to call him Wyn - out loud - but her Marine training just wouldn’t let a first name slip out of her mouth while she was on duty.  Despite being held onto an antigrav sled by a forcefield, she was still on duty.  So her short admonition would have to suffice.  She hoped he was fluent in reading between the lines.

Foster: ?

She watched him go.  And after the door slid shut behind him now - and only now - could she let his name slip from her lips.

Brynn:  Be careful, Wyn.

Foster:  ?
