Taybrim: And finally, Commander DeVeau.

At the sound of her name, Alora sighed, the sound of it soft, resigned, and only heard by the Commodore.  She turned to look at him, her mouth quirked into something that wasn’t quite a smile.  While she could not connect telepathically, the words ‘Do we have to?’ almost seemed to echo from her.

His look back was plain.  ‘Yes, we do.’

Taybrim: Commander, you were part of the diplomatic team in the High Council that endured the full brunt of the Cult’s hostility.  Your brave actions not only helped uncover the truth to the Klingon high Council, but protected your fellow officers.  For your bravery and self sacrifice, I recognize you with the Distinguished Service Ribbon.  ::softly, honestly:: We could not have done it without you.

Once more, her mouth worked, not quite a smile, not quite a frown, uncertain as to what it truly was.  A moment later, it settled into something solemn but not severe and she accepted the ribbon and allowed the Commodore to pin it upon her.

Taybrim: I do not in the slightest regret asking you to become First officer of StarBase 118.  I hope you feel the same.  ::He offered softly, proudly.::

Her gaze, which had dropped to watch him as he secured the ribbon lift, meeting his own.  Once again, silence descended, stretched out as she regarded him, and finally, softly, she merely offered a short, soft reply.

DeVeau: Thank you sir.

Taybrim: I’m proud of you, Alora. ::He murmured::

That elicited smile, for his words were worth far more to her than the ribbons he had given her.  She glanced at the other officers, and as Sal turned to give final commends, she once more placed a gentle hand upon his arm.

DeVeau: Not yet.

Taybrim: ?

There was a glanced cast in the direction of a certain second officer who quickly joined them and picked up another box, one extra that hadn’t arrived with the others, but had come directly to Iain, one that had been placed there among the others.

DeVeau: It would seem there is one more officer deserving of recognition tonight.  First, one that is long overdue.  You have commanded this base with skill, compassion, and dedication for five years.  General Hauke commends you on your length of service as commanding officer of Starbase 118.

Alora stepped back, allowing Ian to take the stars and give them to Sal, recognition of his tenure of leadership.

Maxwell: ?

Taybrim: ?

DeVeau: Not so fast.  We’re not done yet.  You, of course, also are recognised with the Peacekeeper Service Ribbon and the Joint Meritorious Unit Award for your role in preventing a war that would have cost billions of lives, and for your efforts in working and strengthening our ties with our Klingon allies.

Once again, Alora made room for Max to pin the next two awards upon the Commodore.

Maxwell: ?

Taybrim: ?

DeVeau: Maybe you should just wait until I tell you we’re done.

Alora’s mouth finally did return with a smile, her eyes twinkling as she continued on.  The next one, however, she was going to do herself, and hoped that Max would forgive her for the rather selfish indulgence.

DeVeau: And for your bravery, your willingness to come to the aid of those under you, risking your wellbeing, both mental and physical in order to protect others, putting yourself in harms way, enduring pain and suffering so that others would be spared, you are hereby presented with the Federation Cross.

And that, she lifted from the box and stepped forward to personally pin upon the man who had jumped in the fray to protect Tatash, to protect her, and to protect all those who would have, otherwise, been at the mercy of Kelemkor.

Maxwell: ?

Taybrim: ?
