((Chief of Security's Office, StarBase 118)
Like a good cup of coffee, a slight warmth spread through her chest. A compliment, praise, was humbling. She felt accepted as part of the Starbase 118 team from it. Chief Sherlock continued smiling at her. The smile was flattering on her face and infectious. It got her smiling in return. However, despite her modesty, Haukea’s cheeks had turned even pinker at the notion of having an official commendation in her file. She never had one before, despite doing an outstanding job. It had a special sort of feeling to it. Something she couldn’t quite describe.
Even with an official commendation being placed in her file, Huakea-Willow was a humble sort of woman. She believed in greatness, yet she never expected it. She knew mistakes were the mark of a good learner. She never bragged or talked negatively about her accomplishments or that of others. Every officer and civilian alike was seen as an equal unless they had killed, harmed or threatened another individual or group of individuals.
Chief Sherlock continued to surprise Haukea with her next words. With her continued smile and calm attitude, Haukea readily accepted what she was proposing. How could she ever say no to a woman who was so trusting, accepting, and supportive of her? She couldn’t. Nor could she say no on the ideals of being a Starfleet officer. It went against practically everything in her to refuse when she could reasonably complete the task.
Sherlock: Which brings us to another thing...
Willow: Yes…
Sherlock: I've been informed ::beat:: in a few weeks time, we'll be having a Federation prisoner come through holding here at 118.
Haukea-Willow simply nodded, wanting to see what Chief Sherlock had to say on the matter before she started forming her opinion.
Sherlock: There's already a dedicated escort for him to move from the ship's cells to ours and then onto the next ship when he's ready to leave. No, what I need from you, is for you to conduct an interrogation of him.
Willow: An interrogation?
Haukea wanted to make sure she had heard the woman correctly. Yes, she had conducted many interrogations with her partner during her previous work as a security officer on Risa. Yet that work was mostly for drunk offenders and other petty crimes. Small-scale, non-universe threatening offenses. However, Haukea knew that Starfleet often dealt with a higher class of criminal. She wanted to be prepared and have all the necessary facts at her disposal.
Sherlock: I need someone I can trust. And someone who knows nothing about him. A friend of mine back on Earth, who's in Intel, got me an hour to see him while he's here. But I can't conduct the interrogation.
Willow: What can I do? You are asking me to conduct the interrogation, which I will do, as impartial as I am. However, I have never conducted an interrogation on a Starfleet-level criminal before. My past work dealt with petty thieves and other criminals.
Sherlock: Response
Willow: I’m not saying I won’t do it. I will. You trust me and I want to honor that trust. However, without telling me about the individual, what can you tell me about these sorts of interrogations?
Sherlock: Response
Willow: I want to be as prepared as possible.
Sherlock: Response
Willow: I certainly appreciate you taking the time to inform me ahead of time Chief Sherlock. I will do my absolute best to live up to your expectations. Anything else?
