((Starbase 118 Ops - XO’s Office))
It was odd, being in that office. Alora had just started getting used to having the Chief Science Officer’s when she’d been asked to step up. After some hesitation, she’d accepted, and moved from one place to another. Like her previous one, it was a large space, and operations had changed things to her specifications quickly. Honestly, there wasn’t much to change, she’d just wanted a bunch of shelves added to the walls so she could have room for her plants. Infact, the space was larger than her previous one, so she had even more shelves than before, and now her plants looked almost sparse in comparison.
That, however, wasn’t particularly on Alora’s mind at that moment. With Nijil’s sudden departure, she’d been handed things that had yet to be addressed. One of the items on that list had come across as something of a shock. Upon the lines of a formal report, two names had jumped out. Anthony Meeks and Ashley Yael.
After reading through what had been stated, Alora sighed and leaned back in her chair, one hand rubbing over her face When she had finally accepted the position, she knew she’d run across some difficult situations to deal with. This, however, was unexpected - especially so soon after being put into place. Letting it sit untouched wouldn’t solve anything, though, so with a half hearted tap of her badge, Alora opened a channel.
DeVeau: =/\=Commander DeVeau to officers Meeks and Yael.=/\=
The formality of the communication struck Tony as odd, considering he and Alora had been dance partners on many occasions. Usually when she called him she addressed him by his first name. It’s possible though, since her promotion to XO, this was a business call so Tony returned the formality.
Meeks: =/\=Meeks here. Go ahead Commander.=/\=
Yael: =/\= Yes, Commander? =/\=
DeVeau: =/\=Please report to my office.=/\=
Meeks: =/\=On my way.=/\=
Yael: ::there was a brief pause before the response:: =/\= Aye, ma’am. =/\=
((Ensign Yael’s Quarters)) The call had come as a surprise, and when Alora had said to report to her office, Ashley had to do a mental jump from “The science department...?” to the realization that she meant the First Officer’s office. It hadn’t occurred to him before, but he realized it now as he and Anthony were called for together. They’d been reported for the fight, of course, and Lieutenant Commander Nijil was away.
A hand slid up his face for a moment as he took a steadying breath. Then he glanced in the mirror, made sure he was presentable, that his uniform tunic was straight, and made his way out the door for the FO’s office.
The Denobulan hybrid cued the door indicator and waited to be called in. Then he stepped inside the office and took a place, standing and braced hands clasped behind him, at the center of the open area. He didn’t greet her as a friend. That wouldn’t be appropriate for this moment.
Yael: ::nodding to her:: Commander DeVeau.
Alora nodded, her expression grim, a far cry from her normally cheerful demeanor. She motioned toward one of the two chairs across from her, indicating he should sit, but she didn’t say a word. Instead, her gaze shifted back to the doors, and she waited in silence.
Tony tapped the chime on the side of the door, waiting for the invite into the room. He stood silently, waiting for the door to open, and when it did he stepped inside. Alora was seated at the desk, and Ashley had arrived and was seated facing her, back to Tony. There was a stern look on Alora’s face, something Tony hadn’t seen before. He walked forward and came ceremoniously to attention.
Meeks: Lieutenant Meeks reporting, Commander.
Without a word, Alora motioned to the one empty place in the room. Tony took the second chair, seated next to Ashley. He remained rigid in the seat, as was customary for a formal meeting with a commanding officer. Tony glanced quickly at Ashley, then returned his stare to the front.
For a long moment, Alora simply looked at the two men in front of her, her elbow resting on the arm of her chair, chin resting upon her hand, fingers splayed over her cheek. In all of Starbase 118, they were probably the two people she was closest to - particularly Ashley. And now, on her very first day as First Officer, she was placed with a very unpleasant situation. Of all the people in Ops, why? Why them?
Closing her eyes, she straightened up, hands resting in her lap and laced together. Opening them, she found that no, nothing had changed. She was still faced with the two men, still faced with what had occurred, still faced with the necessity of calling them to task on it.
DeVeau: So. I have a report of an altercation between you two.
Meeks: It wasn’t really an altercation, Commander.
Remaining silent, the Denobulan hybrid’s stomach was clenching… he glanced at Anthony shortly before looking forward again. It had been an altercation all right. He did his best not to look guilty, or nervous, but he was sure he was failing.
DeVeau: Records show that Ensign Yael sustained multiple injuries, and that Cadet Harper also attended to injuries in your personal quarters, Lieutenant.
Meeks: Ma’am, those records are true. There were injuries tended to by Cadet Harper… ::Glancing to Ashley::
Yael: That’s correct. There were some minor injuries.
DeVeau: If those records are true, then how can you say there was no altercation? Let me rephrase - fight. A physical fight. One that resulted in said injuries.
Alora didn’t understand. Tony and Ashley were friends - so why were they fighting? What had happened? What would come between them to cause such anger and lash out the way they had?
Meeks: Permission to speak candidly, Ma’am?
DeVeau: Permission granted.
Meeks: Firstly, Ma’am, Kherys… Cadet Harper does not know the whole story. In fact, what happened between Ensign Yael and me is none of her business. ::Glancing again toward Ashley::
