(( Beach Side - Raskor II ))
A’Mayri could see the pause of quiet awe as it gently flowed through the group when everyone stood at the edge of the clearing. They all had experienced life in ways she couldn’t even fathom, how Mclaren could be at ease, and hearing Ross and Ryden playfully joke about her medical preparedness finalized her internal resolve to ensure the group could enjoy themselves.
The smell of the salt was stimulating, the sand beneath her felt different compared to the desert sand back on Vulcan. The heat was softer, wind gentler, and the vast body of water lapping against the shore in front of her left A’Mayri in her own little state of awe. Her senses were almost overwhelmed in the best ways possible.
A’Mayri: I-...::small pause to recollect herself:: What the Commodore had mentioned to Ensign Ysatch and I at our orientation is indeed correct. The beaches are indeed lovely.
Ross: I've never been to a beach like this. Imagine living here.
McLaren: Would certainly take some getting used to... being able to
see all this every day.
Sylvax: I suspect it might lose its novelty eventually… but not quickly.
A small gust of wind ruffled her bangs. A'Mayri was careful as she lifted her hand, brushed them back fully, and completely exposed her forehead markings without worry.
A’Mayri: I will remember this moment as impactful and pleasant, then be more than satisfied to return when the day is concluded.
Ross: Should we grab one of those boats?
McLaren: I think that sounds like a good idea.
Sylvax: It would give us a better view of the water.
A’Mayri: I concur.
As the group moved closer to the water and small vessel doc, A’Mayri took careful and short glances at the clear blue water surrounding them. The sound of wood slowly creaking under their feet and against the gentle lulls of the waves was more pleasing than she originally believed.
McLaren: One of those wider ones looks perfect. Should be able to
paddle out some and just enjoy the waves.
Sylvax: That one should be stable enough if we decide to swim from it.
A'Mayri: A perfect vessel for our intended activities.
Ross: ?
As McLaren stepped toward the boat first with a steadying hand, A’Mayri was quick to step away to pull down the small number banner from the nearby stand that marked the boat as accounted for. After a small and somewhat friendly chat with the staff assigned to the pier, A’Mayri returned with a somewhat hefty bag of extra snorkeling sets and a large umbrella that would perfectly slot into the back of the boat.
McLaren: Shall we?
Sylvax: I think we shall...
A’Mayri supported herself against the side of the hull before she promptly lowered herself onto the boat, careful to keep the additional bag slung over her. Once her feet were planted, she set the bag down and offered an arm out to anyone to help steady the descent into the slowly swaying boat.
Ross: ?
Sylvax: Careful stepping in. The balance point is a little further
toward the center.
A'Mayri: Once you step onto the boat, we can secure everyone’s belongings underneath the seats so you all are able to clearly see the clear bottom while we paddle out if so desired.
McLaren/Ross: ?
Sylvax: I believe the official Starfleet shoreleave guidance is “dress
for the environment.”
A’Mayri: It would be inefficient to wear anything but environmentally compliant clothing, and I would assume uncomfortable as well.
She followed Ryden’s lead when she noticed him grab the first paddle, taking hold of the other one before they slid into place and gently sliced through the water.
McLaren/Ross: ?
Sylvax: I can help steer us out past the swimmers.
Having seen everyone interact so casually and freely could have perhaps helped build up the courage to remain present and even playful in her own way.
A'Mayri: ::slow blink:: Both a medical officer and potential helmsman sir, how well suited for the trip.
McLaren/Ross: ?
Sylvax: Noted. I’ll add it to my medical record.
Sylvax: I think we chose the right activity.
After the small line had been casted away, the boat started its slow but steady course away from the pier and into the beautiful ocean. She only allowed herself a moment to take in her favorite feature of the boat before adjusting her form to better paddle through the water. Ripples of white and blue light flickered over everyone like pretty jewels, A’Mayri content again to enjoy the peace of the moment as she continued to listen to everyone chat and enjoy themselves.
Sylvax/McLaren/Ross:?
A’Mayri: Once we are far out enough and away from the swimmers, I am willing to stay with everyone's items while you all swim.
She was able to swim just fine, and she wasn’t afraid of the water. A’Mayri just knew herself well enough to know that she was just as satisfied to stay in the boat and observe the ocean floor through the clear bottom hull. The fact that they were able to find one was a small joy that made A’Mayri’s day. It helped her feel involved with enjoying something adjacent to recreational swimming.
Sylvax/McLaren/Ross: ?
A’Mayri was also more than willing to take advantage of her bone and muscle density to sink to the bottom and collect any dropped items the group may need rescued.
A’Mayri: I may swim for a moment if conditions and time permit.
Sylvax/McLaren/Ross: ?
A’Mayri: ::small pause again, subtle amused expression:: The biology that causes me to sink like a stone when I am not actively treading the water has been both an amusing surprise and worrisome act to others.
Sylvax/McLaren/Ross: ?
