(OOC – Alok, if you want to jump in from this point, that will save you a heap of back tags)

((Impound Bay 42 – StarBase 118))

Zel’s pale eyes glittered as the Ensigns spread out across the impound bay. Zel loved these ships. As a mechanic and a pilot, tinkering with ships, fine tuning them, getting them perfectly responsive to the controls and ensuring the engines were impeccable were part of his bread and butter.

Zel: I have flown all of them, multiple times. Stress tested if you will. Pick one and I can tell you about it!

sh’Sonora: I’ll let you all have the first pick. Besides… ::She looked over at the Ferasa.:: …it’d all pale in comparison, and she’s on blocks.

A’Mayri: I would like to ride alongside Ensign sh’Sonora if possible sir, and if you are alright with it of course ::Looks towards Mi’shune::

sh’Sonora: ?

Zel: That’s fine by me.

Ysatch: Well if you two are pairing up, how about the Lieutenant and I take the Klingon Condor and then Munshi, you can join either group?

Zel gave a jaunty two-fingered point, the Bajoran version of a thumbs up, common amoung pilots. And then with a flick of his wrist he tossed Ensign sh’Sonora the entry codes for the MFT Maximum Thrusters.

Zel was pretty proud of the upgrades done on that ship and wanted to see what a fellow pilot thought of how it handled – which the phrase ‘turn on a dime’ was meaningless in the moneyless Federation and yet that archaic phrase had hung on only for pilots. Zel had zero idea what a dime was, but it was small and the MFT could fly circles around most other small ships, despite her blocky stature.

Munshi: ?

Ysatch: The lieutenant had flagged the Klingon ship as a potential choice and I've always appreciated Klingon systems. They're simple and blunt, but that's because engineering knowledge in the Empire isn't -- what's the polite way to say this -- evenly distributed. It has to work for a warrior who thinks regular maintenance is a job for a petaQ. ::blushes:: Sorry for swearing.

Zel tossed a single glance over towards Ysatch and chuckled, almost immediately deciding that he liked his fellow Bajoran. Well, Zel was half Bajoran and a terrible Bajoran at that. But he still wore a decades old earring, even fiddled with it when he was nervous, the planet he was born on and grew up on never really left him, no matter what crazy flight path his life had taken since then.

Zel: I think the Condor is an excellent choice.  Besides, been a while since I’ve flown her, she needs to get her space legs stretched as they say.

sh’Sonora/Munshi: ?

A’Mayri: Even if this only is categorized as a test run, it is exciting to be able to endeavor on a flight and engineering observation outside of schooling. A first official and non official flight.

Ysatch: ::walking backwards towards the Klingon ship:: Last one out of the hangar owes a round of raktajinos.

Zel: Better run!

He winked and then took off, a spry thing despite his age. His fast, wiry build had gotten him out of a lot of tough scrapes and deadly encounters in his past.

sh’Sonora/Munshi: ?

The Condor was a warrior’s vessel. Stripped of amenities, the only comforts were ones critical for the ship to function well. The ramp was metal, the walls drab and covered in sharp Klingon script.

There was even some graffiti: Qong targhmey nIv SoSlI' which Zel found too amusing to wash off.  It had something to do with insulting someone’s mother and targs.  Ah, Klingons.

Ysatch: ::to Zel, gesturing at co-pilot seat:: You said you'd be piloting, so I'll post up here?

Zel: Absolutely.

He slid into the pilot’s chair with graceful ease and powered the little ship up, calling the pilot and co-pilot screens into backlit life.

Munshi: ?

The cockpit was suddenly filled with jagged, glowing Klingon script, flashing in tones of red and orange.  Which was good in Klingon terms.  Oddly enough green meant bad. Well, odd for humans at least. For Zel he just rolled with it.

Ysatch: There's a way to get this translated, I hope. If not, I can probably figure it out.

Zel: Hang on, I uploaded a translation matrix last year…

He started to punch up programs and slowly the words shifted to federation standard. Still in that jagged, blocky Klingon script.

Munshi: ?

Zel: Yes, keep an eye on the energy readouts. Watch for any fluctuations we should be aware of before we launch this thing on a real mission.

Munshi: ?

Ysatch: Don't quote me on this, but I think we're ready to go!

Zel looked over the pre-checks and nodded.

Zel: That we are.

He used his command codes to open up the launch bay doors and punched in the commline to the MFT Maximum Thrusters.

Zel: =/\= Condor to MFT, you guys ready to launch? =/\=

A’Mayri/sh’Sonora: =/\= ?

Zel: =/\= Alright, I’m thinking we should head to the Zenaka cluster, dodge some asteroids and be back before dinner. =/\=

A’Mayri/sh’Sonora: =/\= ?

Ysatch/Munshi: ?

Zel: Alright, let’s blow this joint!

Ysatch/Munshi: ?

He grinned with the glee of someone who clearly enjoyed flying. The Condor was a fast ship. No waste, no extra Starfleet safety measures. It was ready to go almost immediately, and it skipped out into the inky void of space as if it was late for an appointment.

The controls were smooth and the ship was fast.

Zel: So, tell me – have either of you been comet-dodging before?

Ysatch/Munshi:

Zel: Oh yeah, you can light the contrail on fire with the exhaust from an impulse drive.  Great fun!  And we’ve got a perfect candidate in the cluster.

Ysatch/Munshi: ?
