Krevas spoke in units, measurements, locations and technological names that Haukea, as a learned member of Starfleet, was unfamiliar with. However, his responses to Whittaker and Ross’s questioning provided her with the bare minimum of information that allowed her to fill in the pieces. It was obvious enough that the logging operations were currently functioning below par.
Yet tradition could dictate quality, however a delivery of only 2 cheb’a’ of wood was unable to meet the demand or raise the price necessary to continue operations. On the other hand, 111 cheb’a’ of wood was reaching deforestation if completed in twenty moon cycles or less.
Finally, they crested to the top of the hill and Kervas pulled out a magnetic device that clipped to the lock on the processing building, and a satisfying click was heard as the doors unlocked. Upon entering, they stepped on to a walkway of metal grating suspended from the ceiling via thick cylindrical rods. It ran around the edges of the vast processing center- most of which had been constructed underground. Furthermore, beneath them was a large workshop filled with dozens upon dozens of Klingons, many of whom were operating heavy logging machinery or driving about on anti-grav trucks laden with untold amounts of the Unyielding Wood.
Ross: It's... impressive.
Due to an emotion unknown to Haukea, by the fact that Ross was within arms reach, gave her some semblance of comfort, if one could identify it as that. Likewise, given her nature as a Risian, close contact with another individual was a naturally pleasurable experience and not only in a sextual manner. In this particular case she held what, to most others would be considered concern for the officer/friend’s safety, as the environment surrounding them was ringing at a particularly high decibel.
Whittaker: Lieutenant Ross? ::he called over the din, his tone filled with concern::
Haukea’s only response was to reach out a comforting hand towards Ross, brushing it lightly up his arm, hoping to indicate her sympathy.
Kervas: Response
Ross: tense:: You don't... happen to supply hearing protection, do you?
Whittaker: ::Theo looked to Kervas:: That might be a good idea for all of us.
While the Klingon workers from down below wore not a single stitch of ear protection, Haukea herself, despite the recommendation, was far from bothered by the cacophony. She had lived the majority of her life on a planet surrounded by the tossing of the ocean, heavy tropical storms, and a boisterous band of cousins, plus her non-biological siblings. Sound waves at such a decibel level merely washed over her like waves, blending into the background as she breathed at steady intervals.
Willow: I’m fine, but I doubt Starfleet would appreciate it if I came back with any amount of hearing damage due to a preventable solution.
Kervas/Ross: Response
Utilizing the provided noise canceling headphone allowed the trio to access quality, clear communication.
Whittaker: Can you hear me? ::he asked, looking between Ross and Haukea-Willow::
Willow: What? No. Hello? Of course I can hear you Whittaker. ::If given the opportunity, Haukea would have cursed at the Captain, similar to her cousin, a term of endearment::
Kervas/Ross: Response
Whittaker: This is most impressive, Kervas. ::he said, looking at the warden-turned-tour-guide:: How many people currently work at this site?
Bending over the railing, Haukea considered at least over 100 employees present within the warehouse.
Willow: Likely over 100.
Kervas/Ross: Response
Whittaker: I see. ::and anyone of them could have been involved in the counterfeiting operation:: Is it considered a honour to work with the wood?
Willow: I can’t see how with this particular process. They seem to be going against tradition all together.
Kervas/Ross/Whittaker: Response
Willow: What can you tell us regarding employee safety? The process of working with the wood?
Kervas/Ross/Whittaker: Response
Willow: And that’s considered legal?
Kervas/Ross/Whittaker: Response
Willow: What do the employees have to say about it?
Kervas/Ross/Whittaker: Response
