((Convention Area – StarBase 118))

Hidden under a massive auction stage, a trio of Kohbeerian goons lay in wait.  They were surrounded by expensive, attractive, enticing artifacts all under a state of the art security system.  And they were being paid an exorbitant amount of latinum to disable that security system

It was a good set up.  The telepathically dark species was well known for stealth and these three twin brothers were linked in a way that allowed them to work as one unit.  They were also computer specialists – hackers of a modern age, engaged in breaking into anything with an electronic component.

Their tool of choice was a state-of-the-art Romulan make electromagnetic disruptor which caused a massive surge of energy in a small vicinity which would absolutely scramble any non-organic computer equipment.  Which also meant it should leave most of the Starfleet systems alone, but the less sophisticated GEC security.

They had emitters stealthily placed around the area, and all they needed was a distraction.  The keynote speech was reaching a fervor and as Professor Bissk unveiled his majestic artifact it was met with a loud thunder of appreciative applause.  The perfect distraction.

The trio of Kohbeerians set off their perfectly placed pulse.

Security systems flashed and died.

Energy surged throughout the convention center.

The artifact – the orb – did not overload.  It lapped up the energy hungrily, like water given to a parched man.  And it flared to life with a deep purple flash.

The applause died, suddenly.

The youngest of the brothers, three minutes younger than his twins, was the most compassionate of the three, and he couldn’t help but peek to see if everyone was alright.

No one was there.

Oh no…

Oh no?

Wait.

They were there.

They were there and they were tiny!

The eldest of the brothers put a call through to the boss, explaining the situation and the suddenly shrunken guests.  Check?  The youngest one crept forward.  He gave some hand signals back.

Alive.

Asleep.

Tiny.

The eldest expressed shock and confusion when the boss told him to get a path ready.  The teams who were collecting the artifacts piled in and the boss demanded they grab one of those living sample cases and to go… collect… a bunch of tiny people.

Ransom them?

Sell them?

Keep them and be entertained?

This was a possibility they had never dreamed of, but it opened them up to a world of endless profit!

They packed up their loot and a whole crateload of tiny dinner guests all in their tiny little finery, and fled back to their ship in short order.  They had to get off this Starbase before security was alerted!
