McLaren: Don't know what it will look like when it comes... here... another ship... I dunno. But I wont let it pass me by when it does.
He nodded.
Foster: Yeah, that’s the hard part – the future isn’t known. You can prepare for it, but you can’t know what ships will be launched under what commanding officer and what opportunities are available. All you can do is to be open to possibilities when they come up.
She nodded in response, though she wasn't entirely sure you could plan for it. Sometimes she felt like she was just being pulled along by the whims of time. Other times she felt like she knew exactly where she wanted to be. She had felt safe and then in the course of mere days had been awoken to a whole new challenge. She tilted her head, looking at Wyn.
McLaren: And what about you, Wyn? What are you planning for?
She sipped her water, red eyes watching him as he considered.
Foster: Honest? I couldn’t even begin to guess. I wonder where I’ll be in five years and then I remind myself there is no way in my wildest dreams that I would have ever imagined I would be right here right now five years ago.
McLaren: We sound like a pair of pontificators.
She laughed along with him.
Foster: I know, now we’re getting pretty philosophical. Metaphysical even. I think we should start drinking before we get dangerous with our thinking.
McLaren: I dont know if the drinking will stop us... it might just encourage us...
Foster: As a doctor I must note that I do not encourage getting blind drunk. But also as a doctor I know all the best hangover remedies.
McLaren: A very handy skill to have.
Foster: I earned friends and favors by tending bar in the academy. I also earned friends and favors by doling out hangover remedies at the academy. You could call me a one stop shop.
Sol could have only imagined what Wyn had been like during his academy days.
McLaren: You had to have been popular. Both would have been valuable skills at the academy. Wish I had taken more time back then to get out.
Sol raised her hand to flag down someone to get them some actual drinks and some food.
Foster: Response?
McLaren: I was pretty focused on my studies... even if I wasnt the best student in many of my courses. Still... had at least one memorable fling with another cadet...
Foster: Response?
She shrugged.
McLaren: Was a whirlwind thing... fueled by Orion pheremones... she was a nice girl... I often wonder how shes doing.
Sol blushed just a bit recalling how she had been been approached by the girl needing tutoring... and how one thing had lead very quickly to another. She had already known where her own proclivities had lay... but finding out Orion pheromones affected her has been a whole other surprise.
Foster: Response?
McLaren: What about you? Someone ever catch your eye back then?
Foster: Response?
