((Bridge, USS Narendra))

Nestira, working together with Commodore Sal Taybrim and Mister Tito, was trying to identify the most likely suspects from the group of fifty people who had boarded the SS Belladonna on its last stop on Outpost 411.

Unfortunately, much of the evidence was circumstantial at best. From experience, the Rodulan knew that one could make anyone look guilty if one tried hard enough, and that it was important not to cast premature judgement.

Aristren: In the meanwhile, I am pulling up a list of crewmen who have access to engineering, and who would not look out of place there.

Tito: That also sounds reasonable Lieutenant. We will have the computer analysis complete in a few seconds.

Both officers waited until the Narendras' ship computer ran the requested query. After a few seconds, a chirp announced the successful completion of the task, and Nestira reviewed her results.

She was about to communicate what she had found when Tito spoke.

Tito: Curious.

Aristren: What did you find, Mister Tito?

Taybrim: response

Tito: It appears we have a match.

He put the data on display on the view screen, showing the same suspect Tito had flagged before. Dark, curly hair framed the human's round face, and emerald eyes looked thoughtfully into the distance. There was an odd scar on his left cheek - odd, because dermal regenerator usually made sure that injuries were healed before scar tissue was formed.

Taybrim: response

Tito: Again Mister Blake shows up, but I think you will find this interesting.

Tito brought up the footage from the boarding passengers and zoomed in on a blonde human with bloodshot eyes. Then he brought up another file of the same individual, with a photo of better times.

Aristren: So Blake did not board the Belladonna?

Taybrim: response

Tito: Although the passenger was supposed to be Mister Blake, he didn’t board the ship. Mister Mortimer did, in his place.

Aristren: That does make him suspicious, and I wonder how Outpost 411 didn't catch this when allowing him to board.

Taybrim: response

Nestira typed another query into the computer, wondering if Mister Mortimer was enjoying his stay on the Belladonna so far, and if he was identified moving about the ship.

Aristren: Mister Mortimer is waiting to be transported off the Belladonna at Evac-12. ::to Taybrim:: Perhaps, sir, you can ask Leski to have him separated and detained. Alternatively, we can use the triage as an opportunity to isolate him.

Taybrim: response

Tito: response

Aristren: I would want to caution against relief - in the best case we have found the sole saboteur, in the worst case we have only found that security at Outpost 411 is lax, and that Mister Mortimer boarded the Belladonna to step in for his acquaintance Mister Blake.

Taybrim: response

Tito: response

Nestira nodded and brought up the pictures and service records of nine Engineering Officers. Chief of Engineering Asta, and his colleagues Montgomery, Vang, Kheem’no, Varis, Lowell, o'Oonla, Garcia and Panlo.

Aristren: All of them have been on the Belladonna for at least a year, and an outstanding record.

Taybrim: response

Tito: response

Aristren: Everyone aside from those individuals would have been noticed, and someone would have reported something, especially after being informed of what happened. For me, this either means either of these people has been coerced into planting the bomb, or - coming back to your suggestion, Commodore, someone looking like them.

Taybrim: response

Tito: response
