Foster: Nobody’s died yet.
McLaren: Always a good thing to be able to say, though that doesn't sound like the full answer.
Foster: I think overall it’s gone OK. I’m very proud of the crew, and our mission was successful. That tells me that I’m doing OK, even if I’m at the same time making mistakes. ::he indulged in another sip of tea:: I’m still new at this but I know enough to know all the stuff I don’t know and be humbled by it.
Sol smiled.
McLaren: Being able to admit that it half the battle...
Foster: yeah, I’ll take that over being overconfident because I know nothing. Been there, done that.
Sol had seen some of it, though from stories he had told, not nearly as much of it as before they had known each other.
McLaren: Mmhmm, thats good course.
Sol sipped some tea, reached to refill the cup after she put it back down.
Foster: Honestly, I’d like to hear your opinion. Because if there’s one thing I have learned it’s that every one of us lives in our own heads – and we can’t see ourselves from the outside. So we need to cross check ourselves with people we trust.
Sol took a bite of food. It was such a good way to buy time to formulate ones thoughts. It was also tasty.
McLaren: Minus a few stumbles... :: she paused. Referring mostly to the use of his name on a mostly secret mission. :: I think youre doing remarkable well for someone who at one point had likely never seem himself moving into command at all, much less CO of the largest base in the sector. Everyone likes you, and more importantly, they trust you. So... I'd say youre going the right direction for certain.
Foster: That is helpful. For sure. I appreciate it. ::he drew in a breath and with another sip of tea turned back to her:: And if the tables were turned – how would you rate your performance as a executive officer. Not as a Director of Intel because everyone agrees you’re excellent at that.
She frowned slightly. While she had known the question would come, for her to assess how she had been doing, she had hoped it wouldnt.
McLaren: For a person only filling in... I'd say I was acceptable. :: She paused. :: Ive certainly heard no complaints from any department heads.
Sol took another chance to snag a piece of toast and some butter for it.
Foster: Response?
Mclaren: Id be surprised if things hadn't fallen through the cracks however... Im still doing both jobs at the moment... while trying to have something resembling a life...
Foster: Response?
She sighed slightly, resting her chin on her hand.
McLaren: Ive been spending the last few weeks incredibly unsure of myself Wyn. I haven't felt like this since Frontier Day... I can count on one hand the number of times in my life Ive been this unsure and haven't been able to come up with an answer... and I'd have fingers left over.
Foster: Response?
