((Madison's Quarters, Deck 7, USS Narendra))
Madison had been awakened by Commodore Taybrim's request for a senior staff meeting at 08:30 in the morning. She was typically the type who preferred to sleep in on her off days, but so much for that now. There was never any rest for the weary after overcoming the plant attack and curing the population of Miri IV-A with Corey and Vito. At least she was nice and clean after her fall in the mud, back to her usual self. Her PADD made an alert as a video message from her dear friend Alix Harford of Denali Station appeared in her vidbox. She selected the video with her finger and it began rolling before her eyes. Alix had her "Everything is Better in Texas Mug" which Madison knew was her friend's favorite.
Harford: Hey Mads, just reaching out because it's been a while since we've talked and I can't sleep. I heard you were on Denali Station recently. I just missed you! I arrived a day or two after you left. It's been an adjustment getting settled and into a routine.
She had been on Denali Station during her shore leave prior to Alix being assigned there. She spent time with Alora DeVeau and met a new colleague in Dr. Araxxu Vahin. It was nice to meet Alora's newborn daughter and be there for the delivery. It was a shame that she missed Alix, but knew that they would meet up again soon.
Harford: Don't tell anyone, but I'm glad I didn't get assigned to a starship. Especially after the mission I just returned from. We went out to find the Juneau because they requested assistance and found them off coordinates and dead in the water. Can you imagine? Just floating in space, trapped in a metal box with no power, no gravity, no life support and slowly running out of oxygen?
oO I can only imagine Oo
Madison was assigned to a station as well in Starbase 118 Operations, but has spent plenty of her time aboard the USS Narendra. She actually did enjoy going out every now and then to explore Strange New Worlds where she had not been to before. Her recent time on Bardeez was particularly noteworthy upon the completion of a successful mission. She did not have a preference when it came to a station or ship assignment, however, it was a perk to have larger quarters on a station. In fact, she planned on looking for a new home in the New Risa area of the station whenever she made full Lieutenant. Having the ability to move to the Commercial Sector on the base was a privilege for full Lieutenants and above.
Harford: We lost power and crashed the runabout onto the ship. Add that to my list of trauma and no, I don't want to talk about it!
Madison recalled Alix's experiences with trauma, but she was always there to support her friend. Perhaps it was the counselor in her along with having a sense of immense empathy for others that made her truly care about Alix's dilemmas of the past.
Harford: Anyway, it was an ordeal. There was a semi-sentient nest of creatures aboard the Juneau leeching their power to stay alive. It took us far too long to figure that out and remove them from the ship inside jerry-rigged torpedos. I will admit, I'm serving with some excellent engineers and a pretty impressive marine.
oO I feel you girl, I've had enough sentient creatures for the rest of the galactic year. Oo
Harford: Once the aliens were off the ship, the lights came back on and we were able to get everyone home safely. I'm still not sure how we managed it. I'm even more impressed that I didn't receive disciplinary action from my XO, but I suppose he's being lenient.
It was nice to see leniency from an XO as Madison believed that everyone deserves a second chance as long as they had learned their lesson. The runabout accident was likely not her fault, but she could have had an 'Alix Moment' as well. Either way she would get the rest of the story out of her eventually.
Harford: How've you been? Are you still loving Ops? I miss our easy days of shooting hoops and listening to you complain about my wardrobe.
The two of them played basketball against and with one another since secondary school. They were roommates at summer camps in California and had been friends for well over a decade at this point. Alix was her current longest standing friendship and to be truthful, Madison considered her family.
Harford: Hope to hear from you soon, Alix.
The message ended and Madison sat there on the couch with a smile on her face for a moment. She would have to reply after her next mission, because otherwise she would be late to the meeting. Her expression shifted to neutral as she set her PADD on the table and began to make preparations before officially going on duty for the day.
