((Bridge, Orion Pirate Vessel Chuulak))

The Chuulak glided silently through the area in which one of their ships had been destroyed, searching for the culprits, like a shark that had smelled blood but not quite located its prey… yet.

But they would. Jezuk was sure of that.

The Capricalian vessel that had had the gall to take the fight to them was here somewhere and it couldn’t hide forever.

Well, it wasn’t actually a Capricalian vessel at all. It was a Romulan vessel. An *old* Romulan vessel, with *old* Romulan technology. That was all the Capricalians had at their disposal and it was a major reason why the newer Orion ships were able to experience so much success in this area of space.

The Capricalians could offer just enough resistance to stop them from actually infiltrating their home world, but they couldn’t beat the Orions’ superior technology in a straight-up fight. Which made it much easier for the Orions to use this route to conduct their activity. But it also made it all the more puzzling that this single, rogue ship had decided to be a hero.

Jezuk pondered this for a moment.

There were rumours that Starfleet were in the area and to her surprise, those rumours had turned out to be true.

Sure, “officially” Capricalia was a Federation member, but it had been a long time since the Federation had shown any interest in this region of space.

Anyway, she had received word that the Starfleet ship that had arrived had made it’s way to the nearby nebula. The one that sent people insane. So she had little concern that they would be back any time soon.

No. This little piggy had gone to market all on its own.

Why? She didn’t know… but she also decided that she didn’t care.

They would deal with the inconvenience and remind the Capricalians not to mess with Orion business.

As she considered all of this, the thought of the old Romulan technology triggered something in her thinking.

Jezuk: Perform a tachyon sweep of the area. They may have used their cloak… if it’s working.

She scoffed at the last bit. It was almost pathetic that these Capricalians even *thought* that they could put up a fight with such outdated technology. They might have gotten lucky once, but their luck was about to run out.

Tactical: Aye, Captain,

After a few moments of silence, an answer came back, but not the one Jezuk had been expecting.

Tactical: Captain, no results of the tachyon sweep yet, but we are picking up something… it’s a life sign from the destroyed ship.

Jezuk frowned. She hadn’t expected there to be any survivors.

While others might have been surprised to hear it, the Syndicate did have a code and one of the things Captains were judged on was the treatment of their crew. For a moment, she considered leaving the pilot of the ship out there, but it was a brief internal discussion, before she sighed and said:

Jezuk: Lower shields. Beam them straight to the infirmary.

The quicker they got the moron onboard, the better. Then they could get back to the real reason they were here - finding that Capricalian ship and blasting it into a million pieces.
