(( Flynn's Beach House - Little Risa ))
:: Meetings of that size always reminded her a little of her youth, when
her father dragged her with him to his diplomatic
Rajel: ::smiling:: Of course, the pleasure is mine, Theo. ::She followed
him with her eyes and then looked past him to where he was going and a
wide smile crossed her lips as she saw the Gorn. They were rare and she
felt special for calling one - Nugra - her friend and now meeting another
one. Not wanting to stare she returned her gaze to the group with her.::
I don't think I'll have to ask what people do here for fun?
Flynn: ::Considering:: I guess it depends on the person. The base
definitely caters to a lot of interests. ::He started to smile.:: I for
one plan to be doing a whole lot more surfing, and from the looks of it
::He motioned to the beachside collection of boards.:: There are a couple
guests here that share the interest.
Taybrim: ::He stared out towards the beach thumbing towards Larson::
Looks like you'll have company on the surfing front, Flynn.
Greyson/Falcon: ?
Taybrim: Me, for fun? I have this incredible base to explore.
Visiting every nook and cranny here will take me years! Maybe even
a lifetime!
Rajel: Don't make me jealous or I might just stay here. ::Laughing:: A
Galaxy is big, but not as big to bring all the things inside I'd love to
have.
Flynn: Have you been able to see much of the station? I have to admit
there is a still a lot I have yet to see myself.
Rajel: Sal was so nice to show me around some. The Ashalla district was
quite beautiful and relaxing. I might have to talk with my botanist to
expand on the arboretum after seeing that.
Taybrim: ::Looking over to her:: I can share some of the specs with you
if you like. There's some fascinating federation technology at work
to make things feel as real - as outdoor - as possible.
:: She nodded with a smile, grateful for the offer and already looking
forward to and planning a peaceful place like that in her mind. ::
Greyson/Falcon: ?
Rajel: I have never served on a station, so excuse my ignorance. How do
you not get overwhelmed by the sheer... size? This is like living in a
capital city.
Flynn: I for one appreciate the size. There is so much culture here too,
not to mention there is always something new to explore. oO Not that we
always enjoy what we find....oO
Taybrim: I didn't know what to think when I first arrived, and then I
went for a long walk through the commercial sector and I saw all the
magnificent treasures this place had. And from then on I was
hooked. This is home - I'm not sure I could ever leave it!
Greyson/Falcon: ?
:: Jalana listened, fascinated. In all her lives she had been either
stationary on Trill, or on a ship. She had never served on a station,
outpost or similar. It felt like she was missing a key component to
figuring out what made life on a station so interesting and desirable. So
hearing about it from the actual inhabitants of the station was a chance
she didn't want to let pass by. ::
Flynn: At first I thought I would get restless assigned to a base, but
adventure has an odd way of finding its way here. ::He grinned:: Whether
we like it or not.
Greyson/Falcon: ?
Rajel: ::laughing:: This phenomenon happens on ships too. We can't even
head back to our home base without running into something.
Taybrim: I like to think about in terms of us being on the edge of the
frontier - the space is explored, but it's wild and unpredictable.
We're the biggest line of defense and the last slice of home before
starships go out into the great unknown. We're the guardians of the
gateway to the Federation, the peacekeepers of the trinity sector and the
people who save the day when we need to. ::He grinned and winked::
I deeply appreciate the explorers, the warriors and those who go farther
into the unknown to see what's out there, but I have grown deeply fond
and protective of our role as those who stand firm and ensure a better
life for those under our care on this Starbase and the Federation
beyond.
Greyson/Flynn/Falcon: ?
:: Jalana chuckled slightly, she had met many people, who once they
started to talk about a subject they were passionate about, could hardly
stop. Apparently Sal was one of them as well. She couldn't promise that
she herself wasn't. She just loved watching someone talk about something
that was on their heart, it made them light up and shine from the inside.
It was almost always a shame when they stopped. It did not have to be a
subject she enjoyed, just watching them gave her enjoyment. ::
Taybrim: ::He chuckled:: Yes, I'm getting philosophical... I think I need
another colada! ::a grin::
Greyson/Flynn/Falcon: ?
Taybrim: We should get something to eat! It smells delicious, and I
have some announcements to make shortly afterwards.
Rajel: Oh really? ::She grinned at Sal.:: I can't wait to hear those. But
yes, I'm starving. Let's eat.
Greyson/Flynn/Falcon: ?
(( Timeskip ))
:: After Jalana had eaten something - maybe a little too much of
something but who counted on Risa ... even Little Risa - she joined the
officers, a glass of a fruity non alcoholic drink in her hand, and
relaxed on a wonderful comfy lounger. This was something she could get
used to, sitting at the beach, enjoying good company and lovely weather,
a fresh drink and not doing anything. Not worrying about anything. ::
:: She took a sip from her glass when Sal stepped onto the porch of the
beautiful Beach house she was very much jealous about and it looked as if
it was time to begin. Leaning back she waited and listened. ::
Taybrim: Can I have everyone's attention? If everyone could please
find a space to settle yourselves for a while, I have a few announcements
to make.
::People shuffled around and came to attention before Sal continued.::
Taybrim: To start, I want to ask for a moment of silence to honor our
fallen. Marine Captain Hughes lost his life to clear the Below and
make this entire starbase a safer place.
:: Death varied from culture to culture and even within one species
depending on many things. For joined Trills death was a step to a new
life, to learn more and enrich life of the next host, giving the symbiont
the best of everything. That did not mean that they didn't fear it or
wanted to go, but it was a little comfort that it didn't just end. Jalana
lowered her head in respect for the fallen Marine. She had not known him
but didn't have to. Every loss was tragic, even if it happened while
doing something important for everyone else. ::
Taybrim: For all who attended his funeral, I want to share the following
words from his family.
:: A holoprojector flickered and showed an image of a man she had never
known, but seeing it and his smile, she couldn't help but smile back, as
if for a greeting in passing. ::
Voice: To the 292nd Iron Jaegers and the crew of StarBase 118 Operations,
my name is Wanda Krings, Raymond Hughes sister. I wanted to say
thank you for your memorial of the my brother. While we will miss
him dearly, it is comforting to know he served with such a supportive
crew and his counted the Stilettos as friends. ::her voice broke
under the strain of grief, yet carrying on with a thread of
strength:: I know he died making the galaxy a safer place, and I
believe you will continue to honor his memory by continuing on the
same. Thank you all.
Taybrim: ::His voice was deep and sonorous, heavy with empathy to those
who still felt Hughes' loss.:: I want to announce that Marine Captain
Hughes has been posthumously awards the Legion of Merit, under full
support of both Starfleet Marines and Starfleet Command. In this we
honor everything he did for us, and I pray that we keep all our of
departed friends in our memories as we move forward.
:: What followed was a row of announcements that seemed to be station
intern. But it showed Jalana how different life between ships and
stations were. These were all things she couldn't even imagine on a ship.
Well maybe partly on the Odyssey Class like the old Apollo-A, which had
been like a flying city. Works on decks, stripping areas from materials,
agreements between cooperations and the station to build a Venice
inspired district... It was fascinating and fantastic. ::
:: Then new arrivals were introduced, which was a part that Jalana
thoroughly enjoyed. New Officers were always so enthusiastic, still had
this spark of fresh ideas, ideals and motivation. People on a mission.
And with a great crew and some luck that never would change. She really
hoped so for them, and for herself. ::
Taybrim: And last, but certainly not least, I would like to introduce our
guest of honor. ::He gestured to the flame haired Trill:: Captain
Jalana Rajel is the commanding officer of the USS Constitution. She
is on leave and visiting our station for a few days. please extend
to her warmest welcomes so she can share in Ops hospitality.
::Again a shining smile:: We are so glad to be able to meet you and spend
time with you, Jalana.
Rajel: ::Raising her hand she waved with the wiggle of her fingers.::
It's a pleasure to be here, thank you for the hospitality.
Any: ?
:: The next stage on the list was one of Jalana's favourite when it came
to her privileges as Captain: Promotions and Service Ribbons. Attentively
she leaned forward, crossing her legs indian style on her lounger as the
pretty shinies were handed out to the deserving officers. She could not
only see the pride in Sal's eyes, she knew how it felt. Every time she
could show her people how much she appreciated their hard work be it
through rewards or words, even a look, she had felt it. It was hard not
to throw it around like sweets at a carnival. It was one of these things
a CO felt oh so many many times: Pride. ::
:: She didn't just sit silently, she clapped and wolf whistled for every
single one of them. They might not have been her own crew, but they were
part of what they all stood for. Starfleet's finest, pride and joy of an
organisation that explored space, new lives, new civilisation and helped
each other to be the best they could be. Yeah there it was, more pride.
Pride for being part of it all. ::
Taybrim: ::He smiled gently, before turning to the crowd:: Nothing makes
me more proud than to know how much dedication my crew has to saving the
lives of one another and of others. And how hard you have all
worked to protect this starbase, this sector and a large part of the
Federation from criminals like Chennel, warmongers like Haz Arrhimen and
terrorist like the Raalaram Ocala. I want you all to know that
every time you see the children playing in the park, the students walking
to class at the academy and the civilians on this base smiling they do so
because of your hard work. May their smiles always warm your
hearts, and may we all continue to support one another as we stand here
at the edge of the Trinity sector, protecting everything we believe
in. ::he paused, taking in a deep breath:: Thank you all, you have
all done marvelous work, and I could not think of any better group of
people... of friends.. to call my crew. ::he smiled
earnestly.::
:: A gentle smile formed on Jalana's face, listening to his words. He
wasn't kidding when he had said he had found his home, it oozed from
every word in a really good and exciting way. She enjoyed seeing COs with
passion. Then it hit her, he was finishing his speech! Uhoh! Like stung
by a bee she jumped off the lounger, the strap of her shoe got caught and
with a yelp she plummeted down again. Blushing she blew a few strands of
hair out of her face and sheepishly smiled. ::
Rajel: Sorry about that.
:: She tried again, but this time slower and managed to get up without
further accidents. .oO Nice going Jal, very professional! You've got
this! oo. Still holding her glass she cleared her throat. ::
Rajel: Don't leave just yet, Sal.
Taybrim: ?
:: She walked up to the porch joining the CO and offered him a smile and
a wink and then turned to the assembly. ::
Rajel: Well none of you know it, but I don't like to hold long speeches.
And since I am sure you all want to enjoy this lovely beach and your well
deserved time off, I'll make it quick. First I'd like to thank you Sal
::She looked to him.:: and everyone of you for the warm welcome. It's a
privilege that not every traveller can enjoy, so thank you. I might not
have spent much time with all of you yet, but there are a few things that
are just plain obvious. For one, it is clear that this station is your
home and you love it in a way one could only hope. You are not only
inhabitants and officers, you are part of the station. ::Smiling:: The
other obvious thing is that you admire and respect this man. ::She placed
her hand on Sal's shoulder.:: And I can see why.
Taybrim/Anyone: ?
Rajel: ::taking her hand off his shoulder she turned towards Sal.::
Through the years you held various positions that give you a great
insight into all kinds of aspects of being the Commanding Officer of this
wonderful station and a rock to your crew. I cannot even count all the
accolades you have deservedly received. Don't wear them when you go
swimming or we'll have to peel you off the ocean floor. ::Smirking:: Well
since I stand up here instead of patiently waiting on my lounger you can
possibly guess already that I am not only here as the guest of honour.
::She held the arm with her drink still, the small wrist pouch dangling
from it as she opened it with the other hand and pulled something out of
it with two fingers.:: This is one of the moments that fill me with pride
and happiness that I have the privilege to do this. It is an honour for
me to reward you for all your hard and tireless to make this station a
safe home, for the support and encouragement to all and the vision that
makes you a a splendid Commanding Officer. With pride and joy in my heart
I am here to promote you!
:: Since Sal didn't wear a uniform she just raised her hand, two fingers
up and in between a small golden pip, shimmering in the sun above,
reflecting the light to a greeting wave towards its new owner. ::
Rajel: Congratulations, _Captain_ Sal Taybrim.
Taybrim/Anyone: ?
:: As he took the pip she, shook his hand and because she was still
nobody else but herself, pulled him a bit closer and hugged him briefly.
::
Rajel: Welcome to the Club. ::Quietly with a grin.::
Taybrim: ?
:: She stepped back and placed her glass to the side - she had no idea
why she hadn't done that before - and applauded for the freshly minted
Captain, not able to contain a wide and bright smile when another wave of
pride washed through her. ::
Rajel: Sorry that it wasn't as short as planned, sometimes you can't fit
everything into one sentence.
::She winked at Sal and took her glass again, stepping back to get back
to the lounger, with a spring in her step. ::
Taybrim/Anyone: ?

A strange mix of anger and worry washed through him,
his hands trembled slightly, but he just clenched
fists and remained his position.
How could she be so reckless, hadn't she learned
anything?
