She smiled, feeling some of her confidence return. Somehow this had gone form a mental check-up to a mentoring session. But she wasn't too upset by it.

Ross grinned.

Ross: Thanks, but... I think it's just that I can relate very well. I felt like I had messed up on my first mission as well. I know a lot of excellent officers who do, actually. I mean... ::he managed a wry grin:: I accidentally disclosed a highly confidential accident to potential enemies during a mission. As the new Intel guy. That's... ::he shook his head:: about as bad as it gets.

Ivalyan: ::wincing:: That's pretty b-bad. How did you rec-cover?

Ross: Nothing ever happened. No disciplinary measures, no consequences. Except for my own mind of course. I'm still mortified if I think back. I think this is just part of the experience, for... people like us.

"Except for my own mind" resonated with Ivalyan a lot more than she liked. Had she really botched everything as badly as she thought?

She shook the thought away, trying to hone in on something else Ross had said.

Ivalyan: Like...us?

He chuckled dryly.

Ross: The overthinkers. Who tend to be a bit too harsh on themselves. Sounds familiar? ::he tilted his head:: I could never be a counsellor. Do what you do. I can imagine your work comes with a lot of social pressure... and the struggle to get it right. Maybe you should try Intel one day, it's a lot more boring than most people assume.

The grass is always greener isn't it?

He threw her a smile.

She opened her mouth to tell him how much that meant to her. How being seen like that really...well she needed it, didn't she? 

Ivalyan: thank you, Ross.::squeaking:: Sir! Thank you s-s-sir!!!
