Finally having a solid plan of attack towards the situation of finding a parental figure for the three children, Korras let go of Amar, allowing for Haukea to extend a hand towards the youngest child. The youngest child, Amar, eventually took hold of her hand, extending the smallest amount of trust towards the adult. In turn, Haukea extended such trust towards the teen, Ikker, giving them slightly more freedom of movement in their search.

Willow: Just don’t wander too far.

Ikker: Why would we do that? ::his tone was sarcastic.::

While it was unlikely, with Amar holding her hand, and Ikker intent on staying near his friend, that the pair would wander off. Yet, Haukea had felt it necessary to provide the warning, to stick close, as a concerned adult would. It was certainly clear, if to no one but herself, that she, as a Risian that thrived off a strong family unit, was growing increasingly protective of Amar, if not the other teen temporarily under her care.

Willow: I don’t know you well enough. It is my responsibility to make sure you are returned to your Aunt in one piece.

Ikker: Hey, I have to ask, how do you know our friend ::the tone of friend suggested more.:: Is okay with those other two? They didn’t seem as nice.

Ikker’s question, while stated with a tone that suggested far more than originally said, was reasonable. Haukea could understand the hesitancy in leaving their friend behind with Korras and Snezhana. Haukea however wholeheartedly trusted the other officers with the child’s life, even if they held less compassion than she did.

Amar: At least we’ll find Aunty faster this way.

Willow: Korras and Snezhana are capable officers that will look out for your friend with their life. If anything should happen they’ll call.

Haukea, as usual, only spoke the truth, even if others didn’t necessarily believe it. Ikker certainly was hesitant to believe her words, what with the way he shrugged them off so easily.

Ikker: If you say so. ::he grumbled.:: Come on, I remember this area.

Amar: I do, too!

Willow: Hey! Don’t go far. Don’t run.

Ikker: Hey lady, ::as if he was older.:: That doesn’t look good.

In a flash, a loud ringing explosion echoed throughout the entire district, ringing in Haukea’s ears. In normal circumstances the security officer would have immediately gone for her phaser, yet, even now, with children near, in her own care, the Risian forwent her phaser, instead attempting to position her body closer towards Amar. She had barely moved when the lights burst into blazing darkness.

In a flash, equally as quick as the lights disappearing, Haukea felt the way Amar’s hand disappeared from her own. The swift loss of contact with the child quickened the beating of Haukea’s heart. Frightened her in the way her “cousin” Lani did when she forwent her usual “I love you” cursing.

Amar: ::muttering while crying:: Make it stop.. Make it stop..

It was in at least half a millisecond that Haukea’s instincts kicked in, sending her into protective overdrive. As such, the security officer placed her body around Amar's, similar to a shield, whispering protective words into the child’s ear as she cried.

Willow: Amar. You are safe Amar. No one is going to hurt you. Not while I’m around.

Ikker: Response

Amar shifted in her arms, moving to peer up at her. Haukea simply continued to whisper into her ear, placing her chin into her hair, pulling her close. Haukea herself, had never particularly had a parental instinct within her. Even then she found children to be endearing, funny, charming in their own special way. Besides, in all her years working in security, in some form or another, she had learned how to deal with children in the most compassionate way possible. Perhaps she was meant to work with children, have a child of her own.

Now however was certainly not the appropriate time in which to contemplate the likelihood of becoming a mother. Amar, more so than Ikker, required her love, comfort, and attention.

Amar: I can feel them. I can feel so many of them. And everyone is terrified, afraid they are going to die...

Haukea, being a Risian and not telepathic herself, wasn’t able to say she understood the exact sensation that came with sensing emotions. Nevertheless, it was a fact she blatantly dismissed, working instead to pull Amar tighter to her.

Willow: I’m so sorry Amar. That must feel awful. However, I can’t help them if you’re not safe first.

Ikker: Response

Amar: I ::sniffing:: always could. But never anything like now. They are all so afraid.. I’ll tell you everything, but please, please, please, I want to get away.

Willow: I stand by that. Yet, we have to move out of here carefully. We have to stick together.

Ikker/Amar: Response

Willow: Amar, how would you feel about climbing up onto my back? Letting me carry you?

Ikker/Amar: Response

Willow: Aright. I’m going to get onto my knees. You just come close and climb on. Put your arms around my neck.

Ikker/Amar: Response

Willow: Ikker, you may not like it but I want you to hold onto my arm, once I get Amar positioned. ::pausing:: Don’t give me that. It’s still dark. I don’t want to lose you.

Ikker/Amar: Response
