Only her second award ceremony, A’Mayri was settled among the awaiting crowd. She recalled that new introductions were always first to welcome the new members and she was curious to see who the next group of ensigns would be.
The lights dimmed, the stage was set, a throat was cleared and her Commander stepped up to the mic.
Foster: Thank you all for joining me tonight. I want to say you all look great in your formal wear, and some of you have some excellent dance moves. I could not ask for a better crew to cut up the dance floors with!
Indeed, the company was lovely and fashion continued to be aesthetically adventurous and pleasing. A’Mayri held the end of her long cut sleeve between her fingers under the table.

Foster: I want to start with some official welcomes to the new members of our crew. Starting with Envoy Luxa Lorana, our new diplomatic envoy! I know some of you had a chance to meet Envoy Lorana over this shore leave, but we are thrilled to have you with us on StarBase 118!
Luxa bowed elegantly towards the Commander, and then offered the crowd a small wave. Her tail waved above her so that those in the back of the room could also see, mimicking her paw gestures perfectly.
Lorana: Pleasure is all mine.
A’Mayri politely applauded with the crowd and she hoped Luxa would enjoy her time here and….have an improved outlook of the engineering rate soon.

Foster: I also want to extend a very warm welcome to two new graduates from Starfleet Academy who have just joined our crew. Please take the opportunity to introduce yourself and say hello! First, let me introduce Ensign Vetan Muur who joins us as a Helm, Operations and Communications officer – I’m sure you’ll have lots to talk about with Lieutenant sh’Sonora! Welcome onboard Ensign Muur!

The ballroom erupted in excited applause for a nice and warm welcome. Then when the room quieted down, awards began and the anticipation in the room almost felt physical- like anticipation could be plucked out of the air and served on their plate.
Foster: Turning to the mission, I want to start by saying that every single one of you who participated in this mission did an excellent job. Even those who were afraid still managed to act through that fear showing tremendous courage. You rescued dozens of Temurians which opened up positive communication inroads between the Federation and the Temurians. You created connections with Temurian leadership while addressing some of the dangers they faced. You determined why the power cores were so dangerous and found ways of fixing it. And you faced off against an Orion ship and came out victorious. Tonight we celebrate all of your accomplishments! Starfleet Command recognizes the incredible job this crew did in uncovering and facing off against the Orion Syndicate. For your excellent work everyone who participated in this mission has very much earned the Orion Syndicate Service Medal.
He took in a breath and then started with the first award.

A’Mayri’s first medal, even if earned by participation. The crew had done an excellent job, and she was silently proud to have earned it with everyone.

Foster: Let me start by highlighting the work of Lt. Commander Ross, Lieutenant Voss and Ensign A’Mayri. You were tasked with finding out how the power cores worked and why they malfunctioned. Your findings that the cores were powered by miniature black holes and you provided significant scientific and intelligence data for other Starfleet forces to start tracking down these cores and deactivating them. For your strong investigative work, I recognize your team with the Starfleet Investigation Ribbon.
Ah, yes. She was no longer the ensign just being introduced. She participated and completed her first real mission. It would then stand that her name would be called upon with her mission team. A’Mayri glanced over and saw Lyra and Voss seated together.

Now she’s earned her first Ribbon.
Voss: Thank you, sir.
Ross: Appreciated. I was blessed with some great team members.
A’Mayri: Working under the Lieutenant Commander and the Lieutenant was most telling of the quality skills Starfleet has to offer. Thank you, sir.

Foster: Furthermore, Commander Ross, you took a critical leadership role in working with Kiro and determining important information on the distribution of the power cores, as well as a leadership role with your entire team. You have blossomed into a leader who can guide your team and who your fellow crew trusts to make decisions that support them and their mission. For this I recognize you with the Leadership Excellence Ribbon.
Ross: Thank you, Sir. It was easy, with a talented line-up like this one.
A’Mayri caught the Betazoid and the Human whisper something before the continued applause occurred as she joined along by offering him a small nod respectful and applause. She remembered his constant and careful attention on Lyra and herself and recognized it as an important aspect of leadership she admired.

Foster: Lieutenant Voss, when your teammate was in danger of being electrocuted, you threw yourself into the fray, fully aware that you, too, could be seriously injured. Your quick thinking and brave actions ensured that your teammate survived with only minor injuries. For this I recognize your bravery with the Starfleet Medal of Commendation.
Voss: I’m just… glad everyone is in one piece, that’s all.
A very Lyra answer that A’Mayri was decently proud of. No deflecting of the award she rightfully earned. A’Mayri only regretted that Lyra got hurt in the process too. She did not regret jumping in to extend the power sourcing long enough to get the results her science officer wanted, however. She offered her a small bit of applause and an amused nod.

Foster: Ensign A’Mayri, despite this being your first mission with the crew of StarBase 118 Ops, you did a tremendous job researching the power cores. Your keenly intelligent mind, engineering expertise and ability to integrate scientific information helped you make key discoveries with your team and proved that you are an incredible team member. For your investigative abilities and discoveries on what fueled the power cores I recognize your work with the Scientific Discovery Ribbon.

She looked to her friends and their friendly smiles and grins for a moment before she settled back into place. She noted their reaction was and planned better reactions for later and accordingly.

Foster: Thank you all for your hard work. The Trinity-Serellian defense fleet is already tracking down power cores and the information you provided made that possible!
Traveling through the winding tunnels and cold asteroid surface was more than worth it.
Foster: Next, I want to recognize the work of Commander McLaren, Lieutenant S’zurak and Ensign Munshi. You were able to negotiate a dangerous situation, rescue captured Temurians, and destroy an Orion Syndicate mining rig with minimal casualties. This directly gained goodwill from the Temurians which opened up communication that gained us important intelligence. For saving the lives of dozens of innocents I recognize your entire team with the Lifesaving Ribbon.
Foster: Commander McLaren, you stood in the middle of a tense showdown between the Temurians who were ready to destroy the rig, killing everyone and a Nausicaan overseer who was ready for violence. You talked both sides down and negotiated a ceasefire which saved dozens of lives. Your intelligence and leadership skills have given you diplomatic capabilities which saved the day. I want to recognize your good work with the Diplomacy Ribbon."
McLaren: I do what I can.
A’Mayri politely applauded with the room. This mission and just her interactions so far with her had proven that she was indeed an example of excellent diplomatic and steadfast leadership.

Foster: Lieutenant S’zurak, when a fight broke out you were the first line of defense for your team. When the situation switched to a negotiation you immediately shifted gears to follow your Commander. You provided critical protection for your team and for the Temurians you were rescuing. It also shows good maturity and good decision making to be able to consistently adapt to new situations and I want to recognize your good work with the Excellence In Adaptability Ribbon.
For a moment she imagined the Gorn’s large stature compared to the smaller more fragile Termurians. Then when the crowd applauded she joined along. She had yet to work with him and looked forward to his opinion on vegetable stews.

Foster: And Ensign Munshi, your keen knowledge of engineering and sharp eyes provided the critical data on what the Temurians were planning. Without your warning your team wouldn’t have known to shift gears and try different tactics. I want to recognize your quick thinking and application of your skills with the Captain’s Commendation.
Munshi: Thank you, Commander.
It was now her turn to return the sentiment as she admired his vast and supporting engineering knowledge. No applaud but a genuine formal and forward head bow from respect.

Foster: Thank you all, I am proud of the work you did, and I still don’t know how you fit all those Temurians into the Angry Pigeon… but you made it work!
Foster: Lieutenants Sylvax, Willow and Ensign Ivalyan Keros. You worked with Leda trying to gain her trust and learn more about the Temurians. You ended up facing off against a Grevad. In helping Leda you got her to realize that the Orion Syndicate was lying to her and using her. While this was devastating in the short team, knowing the truth directly helps the Temurians rebuild a new settlement and has fostered new and better relations with the Federation. For your willingness to head into the wilderness of Drakos I want to recognize your bravery with the Wilderness Deployment Ribbon.
Foster: Lieutenant Sylvax, you were called up to take up a leadership role and stretch your skills far beyond your role as a chief medical officer. From wilderness survival to diplomatic negotiations, you led you team through all of this. I want to recognize all the hats you wore – and how well you did in all of them – with Excellence In Adaptability Ribbon.
Sylvax: Thank you, Commander. This really belongs just as much to Lieutenant Willow and Ensign Keros. They made every challenge a little easier to face, and I'm incredibly proud of what we accomplished together.

The medical officer was always kind, and having gotten to know Ivalyan better she was glad the team ended up the way it did.

A’Mayri almost had to hide and amused grin, but her face remained perfectly calm.
Foster: Lieutenant Willow, as soon as a member of your team was in danger you stepped in to protect them. That is exactly what the best security officers do and mission after mission you prove that you are one of the best and you are always ready to protect a fellow crewmember. For your quick thinking and excellent work in protecting others I want to recognize you with the Silver Livesaving Ribbon.
She had finally been able to meet the Chief security officer and found that she too was quite kind and fashionable. With the future she looked forward to working with her eventually.

Foster: And Ensign Ivalyan, after the truth was revealed you approached Elder Leda, you comforted her and helped her understand all that happened and set her on a positive path forward. This is so important not only in foster better relationships between the Federation and the Temurians, but ensuring that Leda can help her people to move forward in healthy ways. This is exactly how a counselor can help a team succeed. I want to recognize your excellent work with the Cultural Harmony Ribbon!
Ivalyan: Thank you! I'll t-try to hug people m-more often.
Ensign Bingo. She learned and had caught a glimpse truly supportive and adventurous the Andorian could be when they all adventured through dangerous cleaning systems and terrain. Even when small her heart seemed quite large in its empathetic capabilities.

Foster: Last, but certainly not least, Lieutenant sh’Sonora and Ensign Ysatch you were both with me on the bridge of the MFT. Together we faced down a hostile Orion Marauder and a field of mines. We had to balance battle with rescuing Temurians and providing aid to our teams. We were limited by the technology we had to protect our cover and still overcame. I recognize your excellent work with the Intelligence Star.
Ysatch: Finally, verifiable proof that I have intelligence!

Sylvax: I never doubted it for a second…

Foster: Mi’Shune, you flew an unfamiliar ship straight into the jaws of danger the moment they started firing on the Angry Pigeon. Your proved your skills in piloting were some of the best in the fleet and your flying protected others and limited casualties. Your ability to quickly adapt and innovate were critical in our success. I want to recognize your skills, bravery and perseverance with the Spliced Mainbrace Distinction.
Even if the MTF’s disappearance had momentarily baffled her mission team, knowing that the Andorian Pilot had gotten her team and the ship back safely while thriving in active combat was deeply relieving and impressive. She applauded with the room.

For this I recognize your excellent work with the Innovation Ribbon.

He gave Tori's hand a gentle squeeze beneath the table.

Her initial reaction when she first reached the MTF back on Drakos was to investigate what had happened with her fellow Ensign. Then when she had heard retelling of his burnt face she calculated that perhaps the adventure was enough of a lesson. They had not had much time to talk since shore leave had commenced, but she could clearly she he was doing well for himself. She found great pride in her friend and joined the room for applause.
Wyn took in a breath and then looked to the gathered and finally his eyes settled on just one officer.
Foster: Ensign Munshi, could you please join me?
Alok took a moment for himself before stepping up to the podium.
Munshi: Sir?
Foster: Ensign, for the past two missions you have done excellent work on Ops, proving you are a capable engineer, an innovative thinker and an excellent team player. This builds upon the foundation skills you learned in your tour of duty on the USS Astraeus. Furthermore, you have grown into your role, made connections with your fellow teammates on Ops and truly blossomed into an up and coming officer. I am very proud to grant you the rank of Lieutenant junior grade, with all rights and responsibilities therein.
He handed over the rosewood box that contained one precious half-pip, the first step forward on a journey through Starfleet.
Munshi: Thank you, Commander... I won't let you down.
McLaren: Congratulations, Alok!
Ysatch: The supervillain gets promoted!
Sylvax: Congratulations, Lieutenant.
Foster: Congratulations, Lieutenant! I am so glad you joined our crew on StarBase 118!
Munshi: Thank you, sir. Truly. This... means a lot.
Ryden waited patiently for Alok to return before quietly leaning toward him.
Sylvax: Don't let it go to your head, buddy... I still outrank you.
Munshi: Oh I am sure you wouldn’t miss the chance to remind me that! ::to Ysatch:: Things just got a lot more interesting than a coaxial warp drive, don’t you think?
And finally Wyn raised his glass.
Foster: A toast! To your hard work, your commitment, your willingness to overcome obstacles both external and internal and your ability to come together as a team. To old friends, thank you for all you have done. To new friends, welcome! I am so glad you are joining this incredible crew! Huzzah!
