((San Francisco District – StarBase 118 Ops))

Water ran through the streets as if the San Francisco district was trying to turn into Venice, or some sections of Nuovo eleganza. If wyn liked water he would be thrilled.

Spoiler alert: he did not like water.

Zel: “Worene’s Wardrobe” ::he read the sign:: We fit everyone from a Edosian to a Nausicaan… ::Turning towards T’Liss:: Getting any readings from this one?

T’Liss: Nothing abnormal.

He breathed a sigh of relief to hear that.  Tailor shops were not his first choice of stores to frequent.  Clothes for Zel had to be comfortable, functional and preferably without holes. Meaning standard issue anything was just fine.

Zel: Going building by building is gonna take a while.  Maybe if we reference the directory and narrow it down to likely candidates by the shop description?

T’Liss: We can probably eliminate any clothing stores... I think it unlikely they would have need to such a power core.

He nodded, making check marks on his PADD, watching as the rain splashed upon it and rolled off the waterproof face.

Zel: And I’m guessing the daycare and the garden shop are unlikely – though I have no idea what crazy equipment they use for kids or plants.

Said as if kids and plants were somehow in the same sphere of need. Zel was not a parent, and he had met some pretty crazy plant owners, so he would be the first one to shrug and admit “I don’t know.”

T'liss: Perhaps Galaxy Invaders? They are close... and could require such sources of power.

Zel: The arcade?  Possibly. Here, take a look.

He turned his PADD of notes around so she could see.

T'liss: If I were to hypothesize... :: she pointed to a few names on the list :: These are close to us and all could potentially require such power cores. :: She gestured to a few others, including a gallery. :: These are further away... closer to the other team... and all could require it as well.

Zel: I’m guessing one of the reasons we’re not getting any readings is because we need to be within a certain proximity, and the out of control weather systems are messing with that.  The energy readings from the weather generators are off the charts. Drowning out everything else.  We just need to narrow it down and bring the tricorders close to the buildings.

He was trying to keep himself under awnings and building roofs as much as possible. Out of the corner of his eye he saw a Ferengi encouraging people to come and have a drink at his bar. A drink would be real nice right now, but Zel knew better. He was on duty, and want did not override need.

T'liss: Unless you believe Commander McLaren would also need such a device, I believe we can eliminate her establishment and those like it...

He looked at T’Liss and shook his head.

Zel: I think Commander McLaren would rather chew glass than buy a Temurian power core. In fact I’d wager that the established businesses all have their preset suppliers.  So unless one was struggling and had to make changes we might do better focusing on the newest businesses.

T’liss: ?

Zel: Crawley’s Exotic Holoreads is only three months old, but doesn’t seem to fit the bill.  Zu’mok’s Craw’lok is some sort of seafood eatery… sounds good, but also unlikely…

T’liss: ?

He started to go through shops again. None of them seemed likely.

The rain slowly started to let up, only to be followed by another roar of thunder and that little bit of hope was washed away by a cold wind and yes, more rain!

Not quite as much rain, but more cold.  Zel started to shiver as they went forward.

Zel: I dunno, maybe we’re going about this wrong.  Let me see if Lieutenant Hernandez is affected. She’s good a good pulse on everything that comes through cargo control.

T’Liss: ?

Of course as soon as he messaged Hernandez, she immediately asked him if he was in sickbay. He lied and told her he had gone. But it also told him that she was not affected by this memory-loss madness.

Zel: Oh hey, she’s not affected either.  Great!  She’s sending me a list of everything that cargo control cleared for the San Fran district with a power core reading.

T’Liss: ?

He watched as the data started to come through.

Zel: not much.  A heating element for the tea shop, a lighted platform for Suban’s Musical Instruments, an “art object” for Cosmos Canvas gallery… why does an art object need a power core? And a massage therapy chamber for the Rose Touch salon.

T’Liss: ?
