to StarBase 118 Ops a Star Trek PBEM RPG
((Main Meeting Room – Raskor II))

The main meeting room on raskor was nicely furnished, and much larger than the briefing room on Ops. Having now spent more than a passing amount of time on Raskor, Sol could understand its draw. If things wound up going bad for her on Ops, a transfer to Raskor is something she wouldn't have said no to. Not that she expected that to ever happen, but the draw and allure of the beaches and forests was quite large.

The only person in the room when she arrived was Wyn who looked like he had some variety of pre-briefing jitters. She gave him a sympathetic smile and a gentle squeeze of the shoulder as he walked passed him to the breakfast buffet. She poured herself a cup of tea and grabbed herself a pastry. She settled at the seat next to the head of the table, producing a few PADDs. She took a bite of her pastry, reviewing the information on the PADDs. Reports from Zel and the Black Tower on the power cores, and from Lt. T'liss on how dangerous they were, including a test of their destructive force conducted in an empty region of space using an almost depleted core.

Foster: Thank you everyone for joining me this morning. ::he drew in a breath, letting his eyes settle on the gathered.:: Let me cut to the chase. Last mission we deactivated some alien technology that contributed to the waves of memory loss. At the core we found, well, a suspicious power core that drastically amplified the alien artifact’s emissions just before the power core failed. ::He produced one of the inert power cores that Lieutenant T’Liss and her team had been investigating and placed it on the table. The screens in front of each crewmember started showing the information and breakdown of the core.:: We did a full scan of StarBase 118 and found eighteen more of these power cores in the civilian sector.

McLaren: We're fortunate it wasn't more.

Any: ?

Foster: Lieutenant Zel and the Intel tower determined that these cores are being sold on the independent markets. They are being touted as cheap sources of nearly unlimited power. And, if they are functioning correctly they do appear to fulfill that promise. The issue is the technology is some variant of a forced quantum singularity, similar to the power core of a Romulan Warbird on a much smaller level. Engineering still hasn’t determined how it works. What we have determined is that when they fail they don’t just lose power – they fail spectacularly, causing system overloads, massive power fluctuations and widespread damage depending on what they are powering.

The station had already experienced what a malfunctioning core could do. She was grateful she had recommended Zel for work with the tower. He had discovered quite possibly one of the biggest threats in the sector, and with T'liss' help they understood it far better than they might have had they just been discovering it.

Any: ?

Foster: The Intel Tower determined that these power cores entered the market no more than nine months ago. Considering the amount of documented failures, unlimited is a highly suspect marketing campaign. But they have been increasing popular among the independent and civilian populations and are spreading throughout the Trinity Sector. I guess they work well enough that people are still buying them. ::he drew in another breath to reset from his opinions back to the facts at hand::  We tracked sales back to a colony of Temurians traders in the Drakos Cluster.

McLaren: Even the potential for what they promise has quite the allure.

Any: ?

Foster: This is the Drakos system, usually called the Drakos Cluster, because of the big asteroid field that surrounds the entire system. The third planet is inhabitable, but incredibly difficult to get to. Intel tells us that the Temurians, an independent race of scavengers and traders had set up a temporary base on one of the largest asteroids in the Drakos Cluster where they barter for supplies and sell large amounts of these power cores.

Any: ?

Foster: Correct, there is no clear evidence that the Temurians are actually involved in the creating of these power cores. They appear to only be the salesmen in the exchange. We believe that the Orion Syndicate is the entity behind the power cores, and are supplying the Temurians with the cores for sale. We don’t know what the agreements between the two groups is, and that’s going to be part of our focus.

Any: ?

Foster: Furthermore, Intel has determined that there has been a shift in power in the Trinity Sector Orion Syndicate over the past two years. Over the past decade the area was dominated by the Saan family, a group that I would most quickly describe as a ‘mafia family.’ However during the Frontier Day infiltration Changelings also targeted the Saan family, destroying their matriarch, Oma Saan. The rest of the Saan retreated back to their home territory and Intel had determined that a new family – the Reence – have taken up power in the area. If the Saans were the mafia, the Reence fashion themselves as mad scientists. They’ve been making technological inroads into the Trinity Sector. ::He paused and let everyone digest that:: To that end, we believe one of the lesser members of the family – Onzion Reence – has been operating in the Drakos Cluster. Another focus of our mission is identifying his role in this and detaining him if possible.

McLaren: I didn't think there would be a day where I missed the Saan family. But here we are... atleast they were a respectable crime family... and they had rules they followed.

Any: ?

As the rest of the crew finished their comments, Wyn had moved on to outlining the mission itself.

Foster: Our primary goal in this mission is to determine the source of the power cores and determine a good way to shut it down. Best case scenario is we prevent any new power cores from being distributed, whether that’s with our direct actions or if we get the information for Starfleet to return with a starship and do a surgical strike – either way, that’s us achieving our goal. Our secondary goals are: ::he held up fingers to delineate them:: One – determine if these power cores are a just a quick profit grab or if there is a more nefarious plan. Two – determine the Temurians role in this and if possible, convince them to stop selling the cores. Three – Investigate the Orion Syndicate engagement and if possible apprehend Onzion Reence.

Any: ?

Foster: Good question. While we are given permission to use lethal force if necessary to protect our crew and any allies, Starfleet is clearly asking us to arrest Onzion Reence, not kill him. We should avoid escalation and focus on information, if possible.

Sol hoped they could accomplish that mission without needing to kill anyone, but she knew that was unlikely.

Any: ?

Foster: Yes, because we are going into independent territory on an intelligence gathering mission, we will be undercover. We will be using the MTF Maximum Thrusters as our primary ship, and we’ll be bringing along the IKS Shuttle Angry Pigeon to provide a smaller ship that can navigate the Drakos cluster. You don’t need to create a false persona for this mission, we’re just being inconspicuous so we can get in close and get people talking.

Sol nodded slightly.

Mclaren: For our purposes, inconspicuous also means no uniforms. We have basic credentials that identify us as merchants connected to Lurtz Enterprises. So long as no one looks too closely... we shouldn't have any issues.

Any: ?

Foster: Lieutenant sh’Sonora and Ensign Ysatch – you’re with me on the bridge of the MTF. First order of business is to get it ready to launch and on our way to Drakos Prime. Once we get there our first goal is to start scanning to locate any indication of Syndicate activity.

sh’Sonora/Ysatch: ?

Foster: I’ll meet you both on the bridge of the MTF after this briefing.

sh’Sonora/Ysatch: ?

Foster: Commander McLaren, you’ll be working with Ensign Munshi and Lieutenant S’zurak. Your main goal is to locate Onzion Reence, determine his role in this affair and attempt to apprehend him.

Sol grinned, sipping her tea.

McLaren: We'll find him, Wyn.

S’zurak/Munshi: ?

Foster: You’ll be correlating with the bridge team to start, and it’s up to you if you decide you need to move forward, infiltrate, or need more resources when the time comes.

McLaren: Understood.

S’zurak/Munshi: ?

Foster: Commander Ross – you’ll be working with Lieutenant Voss and Ensign A’Mayri. You need to set up a mobile science lab in the MTF and start investigating these power cores. We should be able to purchase some fresh samples from the Temurians.

Ross/Voss/A’Mayri: ?

Foster: Your teams starting goals are twofold – determine how to safely shut these power cores down, and see if you can determine any more information about them – are they simply a profit generating item, or do they serve a deeper purpose.

Ross/Voss/A’Mayri: ?

Foster: Lieutenant Sylvax, you will be working with Lieutenant Willow to contact the Temurians. You will be co-ordinating with Commander Ross’s science team. We want to see if we can form a good relationship with the Temurians, and see if we can get them to agree to stop distributing the power cores.

Sylvax/Willow: ?

Foster: Start by reviewing the data we have on the Temurians, and working with the science team to make contact, purchase some power cores, and opening up negotiations.

Sylvax/Willow: ?

Foster: Alright, does anyone have any last questions?

Any: ?

(( OOC: I'll have something out for my team tomorrow most likely. ))
