Vintam Dalreth.

Hedonist.  Buisnessman.  Space station overseer.

Criminal without a record, Syndicate connections to the Saan family, opportunist.

He was fair.  He protected the peace – both for business interests and the sake of hedonism.  He liked money.  He didn’t ask many questions.  So long as people behaved themselves on Miranda VII he didn’t care what they did.

He was no saint.

But he also wasn’t the most horrible scum in the galaxy either.

He was in that grey area of good and bad all at the same time.  Self-interested, but with enough wherewithal to understand that a good social structure benefitted his self interest.

Taybrim: I do believe he wants to make a business deal.  And I do recognize this could be dangerous.  But I also recognize that Dalreth has intelligence that we can’t get from other sources.

Tito: We wouldn’t need to get in touch with the Sindicate if we can count on his help? Is that what you are considering Sir?

He tipped his head.  Sal had no intention of contacting the Syndicate.

The ownership of Miranda VII was a hazy affair.  Technically the Saan family owned it.  And Vintam Dalreth had an alliance with the Saan’s.  The Saan’s were one of the powerful Orion dynasties, with fingers into every sort of black market dealing imaginable.  From slave trading to drug dealing and everything in between.  Miranda VII was once their hiding place, when the Syndicate was supposedly ‘dead’ – but now the Syndicate was very much back alive and back out in the open at the fringes of space and Miranda VII was on the opposite side of the Galaxy as the Saan’s main holdings.

So it became a passive source of income.  Pay the rent, own the station, do as you will.

Until the day that Nacien Rixx vastly outbid Vintam Dalreth, and gift wrapped Miranda VII for Terra Prime.

Taybrim: No, I don’t have any intentions of contacting the Syndicate proper.  Dalreth’s agreement with the Syndicate is to pay the rent to the Saan family and keep the station.  They haven’t had a trackable Syndicate presence since the pirate queen Chennel started an internal Syndicate coup, slaughtered a bunch of Saan and went down in a blaze of glory.  But the connections are still there.

The Syndicate was a friend of a friend.  Always kind of there, even when they weren’t.

Tito: And if we make the deal, what then?

Taybrim: Assumedly after we purge Terra Prime and rescue all the civilians, we hand the station back to Dalreth and it goes back to being the same independent hive of villany and hedonism it has been for the last five years.  At least that’s how I read his intentions.

Tito: How much are we willing to compromise to get back at Terra Prime?

Sal shrugged lightly.

Taybrim: Miranda VII is not in our territory and it was never our station.  We cannot instill a Starfleet leader on it, or the Romulans will see that as an act of aggression.  ::he pulled up the star charts.:: Miranda VII is just outside Romulan territory and the Romulans tolerate the Syndicate more than they would tolerate Starfleet in that area.

Tito: ?

Taybrim: ::A nod of assent:: Exactly, we get the choice of the devil we know or a devil we don’t.  So I don’t necessarily think that allowing Dalreth back, knowing he owes his reinstatement to us is a bad thing.

Tito: ?

Sal leaned back, contemplating.

Taybrim: Well, I didn’t just call you in here to listen to messages.  If I’m meeting with him I’m not going alone.  And we’d need to move fast and act with discretion.

Tito: ?

Taybrim: If you’re game, I have Lieutenant Sera fixing up the MTF Maximum Thrusters.  Hopefully she’ll be interested in a test flight for it.  I think a small party of three business people would blend in well enough on Sannin VII.

Tito: ?
