((Officer’s Formal Hall – the hub - StarBase 118.))

::As the welcomes finished Sal settled back for a moment, allowing the emotional landscape of the gathering to settle.  He brushed his shaggy red hair back from his face for a moment and then offered a calm smile.::

Taybrim: Lastly I would like to recognize the hard work done by the members of the crew.  I know that we have recognized the passed and dwelled upon the actions that brought us to this place, but I also know that your actions saved lives.  Allowing the peace negotiations to take place put a temporary peace between the Klingon Empire and the Gorn Hegemony which gives us time to find out the root cause and eradicate it before civilians are targeted.  Quick thinking and reactions also saved the USS Narendra from devastation by a cloaked opponent.  I want to thank you all for your hard work.  ::he smiled softly:: But I will recognize individual and team actions that helped us to overcome adversity on this mission.

::He let his dark eyes sweep the gathered.::

Taybrim: Will Lt Commander Hael, Lieutenants Blackwell and Termine and Ensign DeTroyes please join me?

Hael/Blackwell/Termine/DeTroyes: ?

Taybrim: Your actions coming in on the Iron Blue provided timely and much needed support.  You fought through a firefight from our cultist adversaries and provided key support to help our crew retake the Narendra.  We may not have succeeded without your intervention and for this I deeply thank you all and would like to recognize your work with the Good Conduct Ribbon.

::He brought out the rosewood box bearing the ribbon and formally offered it to each in turn.::

Hael/Blackwell/Termine/DeTroyes: ?

Taybrim: Once again, thank you all so much.

Hael/Blackwell/Termine/DeTroyes: ?

::He looked up and his eyes settled on Daniel Cain.::

Taybrim: Mr. Cain could you please join me?

Cain: ?

Taybrim: Lieutenant Cain, your actions directly protected the Ambassador and your team when you were in the direct line of fire.  You were able to neutralize a threat and save both fellow crew and an important official.  You acted with bravery and compassion.  To recognize this, I award you the Silver Star.

Cain: ?

::Again, he formally presented the rosewood box.::

Taybrim: Lieutenant, you have proven yourself as one of the finest examples of the value of the 292nd Marines of StarBase 118.  Thank you.

Cain: ?

::Next Sals’ eyes settled on his first officer, Gogigobo Fairhug.  Sal really had found a diamond in the rough with Gogi and he could not be more proud.::

Taybrim: Commander Fairhug, if you could join me?

Fairhug: ?

Taybrim: I know this is exactly what a First Officer trains for, but standing on the bridge and facing down a hostile warbird is no small matter.  You not only did a fantastic job keeping damage to the Narendra minimal, but you coordinated all efforts on ship.  For this I would like to recognize your leadership and quick thinking with the Captain’s Commendation.

Fairhug: ?

::Sal patted Gogi on the shoulder fondly as he presented the award.::

Taybrim: I know I made the right choice in first officer.  You continually prove that you are a fine leader and the crew respects that as much as I do.  ::he smiled warmly.::

Fairhug: ?

::Sal looked around and this time his eyes settled on those who were on the rescue shuttle for Avendra V.::

Taybrim: Mr. Vehk, if you could join me?

Vehk: ?

Taybrim: Lieutenant Vehk, you along with your team flew through dangerous storms and ion interference to provide an essential rescue to the team stranded on Avendra V. You protected team members when the succumbed to the elements and helped ensure we all returned safely.  I would like to recognize your work with the Silver Lifesaving Ribbon.

Vehk: ?

::Again another box formally presented.  Each one slightly different, highlighting the actions of each important crew.::

Taybrim: Thank you for your leadership, Lieutenant.

Vehk: ?

::Sal looked up again, this time his eyes settled on those who had endured the shuttle crash and lived to tell the tale.::

Taybrim: Lieutenants Malko and McLaren and Commander Maxwell, if you could all join me?

Malko/McLaren/Maxwell: ?

::Sal smiled softly.  He knew full well what it had felt like to be down there and witness these actions firsthand.  This was a very personal set of awards to him.::

Taybrim: Counselor Malko, you were the one who devised an ingenious solution to make a signal beacon using our limited resources, and this beacon directly helped our rescue team find our shuttle.  I want to recognize your quick thinking and hard work with the Innovation Ribbon.

Malko: ?

Taybrim: Thank you again, Counselor.  Hopefully we’ll see your innovation in action agfain, with fewer crashed shuttles.  ::he smiled, a bit of bittersweet humor.::

Malko: ?

Taybrim: Lieutenant MacLaren and Commander Maxwell, both of you braved the elements to make sure our crew stayed safe from the indigenous life forms as well as assisting our rescue shuttle to safely find us and extract the injured crew.  Eaten by Yetis is not a fate I would ever wish to write on a death notification and thanks to your quick thinking and brave actions we got everyone off Avendra V alive and safe.  For this I recognize your actions with the Good Conduct award.

McLaren/Maxwell: ?

Taybrim: Again, I hope to never crashland again, but if I do, I hope my team is as keen and brave as you.

McLaren/Maxwell: ?

Taybrim: Commander Maxwell, please stay up here.

Maxwell: ?

Taybrim: I also want to formally recognize Lt Commander Arturo Maxwell with the Department Chief Ribbon.  Max, you have done a tremendous job keeping this Starbase and its support ships safe for the past year and you are a valued member of our senior staff.  Thank you so much.

::he offered the golden ribbon over to Max with a find smile.::

Maxwell: ?

Taybrim: Congratulations, Max.  I’m very proud of you!

Maxwell: ?

::He looked up again.::

Taybrim: To this end, I would like to give some of our newer officers the chance to earn this distinction in the future.  Will Lieutenants Termine, Malko and McLaren please join me.

Termine/Malko/McLaren: ?

Taybrim: Each of you has performed with distinction in your specific department roles.  ::he turned towards Sol first:: I know you served with Commander Aitas and watched as this intel department grew from disparate pods into a structured collaboration with the other departments of StarBase 118.  Now I offer you the chance to make this department your own and guide it into the future as the Chief of Intel on StarBase 118.

McLaren: ?

::Sal understood the importance of being offered a department chief role – it placed trust in an officer and gave them the ability to take a commanding role in the affairs of the department.  Sal himself had struggled against an adversary in the science department as he rose in ranks – it was important to have the backing and confidence of one’s commanding officer.::

Taybrim: I know you will do great things, Lieutenant.  ::he smiled evenly.::

McLaren: ?

Taybrim: Lieutenant Malko ::His gaze settled upon the Counselor.:: In much the same way you have continually proven your leadership capabilities.  I offer you the chance to take on the role of lead counselor of StarBase 118 and to shape the counselling department as your own.

Malko: ?

Taybrim: Counseling is a very personal role, and you have a tremendous support structure behind you here.  I know that great things will come from you, Lieutenant ::He smied with full assurance::

Malko: ?

::And again, last but not least, his gaze settled upon Lieutenant Termine::

Taybrim: And lastly, Lieutenant Termine.  I know you stepped into a big department on StarBase 118, with some diplomats that have been here for ages.  But while each has their own specific negotiating strengths what they need as a whole is a leader.  I know you are directly interested in that chance to lead them and I would like to offer you the chance to prove yourself as not only a diplomat but a leader as the Chief Diplomatic Officer of StarBase 118.

Termine: ?

Taybrim: I know it can be difficult working with experienced ranking officers.  But remember – some officers prefer to focus on a specific skillset.  Work with them as specialists while you concentrate on your own strengths and growing into a leadership role.  ::he smiled softly:: You have my support.

Termine: ?

::And with that he looked up to the gathered as a whole.::

Taybrim: Thank you all for your hard work, service and dedication to this crew and the people we protect.  Thank you for working together, reaching out, welcoming new faces and may we all gather together again soon to celebrate our victories and enjoy peace in our quadrant.  ::he took in a long slow breath:: Please enjoy the end of shore leave.  We will be meeting at 0800 in two days in the briefing room of the USS Narendra to discuss our next mission.  For now, once again thank you all.  You have done well and have earned every accolade.

::he smiled softly at the gathered as they slowly relaxed and broke apart to finish the last of shore leave.::
