((Bridge, Deck 1, USS Enterprise NCC-1701))
Marsh: Run a sensor sweep for the Kobayashi Maru. Is it still out there and in tact? They could just be losing power with their systems shutting down.
Without turning, Gogi acknowledged his orders and quickly implemented them.
Fairhug: It’s there, Captain, but it’s fading fast.
Marsh: Proceed forward to intercept, let’s get them out of there swiftly. Time is not on anyone’s side here.
Fairhug: ::swivelling his chair to look at Madison:: What about the Klingons, Captain?
The Centauran glanced at him with an expression of curiosity evident on her face.
Marsh: Are we picking up any Klingon ships in the vicinity at this point?
Fairhug: ::turning back to his station:: Nothing as of yet, Sir, but this *is* the Neutral Zone. They’re bound to be out there somewhere.
Marsh: Engineering Chief, lock on to the surviving crew of the Kobayashi Maru and beam them over to the emergency transporter pads. ::She looked over from her chair directly at Gogi:: Number One plot the most optimal course that will ensure that we make a swift return to federation space after acquiring the crew.
Gogi nodded, inputting the necessary commands.
Fairhug: Aye, Sir.
But at that exact moment, an alarm sounded from the helm.
Fairhug: Two K’t’inga-class battle cruisers decloaking off our port and starboard bow, Captain!
Marsh: Hail the Klingons and inform them that we are on a rescue mission.
Fairhug: No response!
Marsh: Belay the transport order, shields up, full alert! Evasive maneuvers pattern delta.
Suddenly, without warning, the Enterprise was rocked by a direct hit, sending the science officer flying from his seat as sparks exploded from his console.
The mournful tone of the red alert klaxon sounded and the ominous red light bathed the bridge.
Gogi ran to the science officer and felt for a pulse.
Fairhug: ::looking up at Madison:: He’s dead, Captain.
Madison made direct eye contact with Gogi and he made sure to hold her gaze. As a doctor, he knew the Centauran was no stranger to death, but there was a difference between losing someone on the operating table and losing someone under your command on the bridge.
To his satisfaction, he noted that, although she was visibly affected, she didn’t allow it to rattle her, or cloud her judgement.
Marsh: This is a terrible loss and they will be honored in time. However, right now we need to focus on the task at hand. ::She pressed on her arm chair comm :: Engineering, what is the damage report?
Chief Engineer: Main energizer is out, Captain.
Gogi ran back to his post and checked his console.
Fairhug: We were only able to get twenty-four crew members from the Kobayashi Maru beamed over, Captain.
Marsh: Without energizers, we can not save the rest of the Kobayashi Maru crew. Number One, proceed with attack pattern alpha, fire phasers and torpedoes at will.
Chief Engineer: Shields are at 40% Captain and decreasing.
Gogi pressed the required commands, but was met with an error message.
Fairhug: Weapons are offline, Sir!
Marsh: Get us out of here helm, we don't stand a chance without weapons and shields dropping. Do your best to get us back into Federation space.
Fairhug: Aye, Cap…
At that moment, the helm console exploded in a shower of sparks, just as the Science officer’s station had moments ago.
Employing every ounce of acting ability he had, Gogi turned and threw himself to the floor.
Marsh: Response
It was no use. He was “dead”.
As he lay perfectly still, face down on the floor of the “Enterprise”, he heard the ship exploding around him.
The Kobayashi Maru had claimed another victim.
Fairhug: ::rolling onto his back:: Computer, end program.
With that, the Constitution-class ship melted away and Gogi and Madison were left, the Doctor standing and Gogi still laying on his back, on the yellow and black grid of the holodeck.
Marsh: Response
Fairhug: How do *you* think you did?
Marsh: Response
He reached out a hand for Madison to help him up.
Fairhug: ::laughing:: Quite the opposite, actually. Were you aware that this is a no-win scenario?
Marsh: Response
