((Deck 2 - USS Narendra.))
From down at the end of the corridor she spotted a figure with a hint of yellow under their collar.
The information she was after became quite clear after initiating a conversation with Ensign Sill-con. Yes, he was a security officer and an Ensign just like her. Sadly, the Chief of Security was out for reasons she didn’t catch. Haukea was sad to have missed such information in her earlier reading. Guess she knew it now so that was all that mattered.
Willow: Well it’s lovely to meet you Ensign Sill-Con. Ensign Haukea-Willow. Security. Just arrived earlier today.
Haukea-Willow once again held out a hand in gesture for a handshake, just as she had done when meeting Doctor Trovek. Ensign Sill-con took his sweet time before he delicately extended his own hand. Haukea was naturally patient, so waiting was no trouble. Even then, she was surprised with the delicate nature of the handshake. Ensign Sill-con’s hand was considerably larger than her own, most individuals were; even being of an average height she was small. Yet, he wrapped only the tips of his fingers around her hand, as if he was scared to break her.
Sill-con: As I was saying, our chief of security is currently absent due to a maternity leave. All operations, reports and orders come from and go to a stand-in.
Willow: Darn. ::the word was said with a touch of sarcasm:: I was rather hoping to meet the official Chief of Security and introduce myself. Very well, I might as well introduce myself to the stand in, in the meantime. You know where I could find them?
Even if Haukea was unable to introduce themselves to the official CSO, it was still sensible to introduce herself to the stand in. Made a good impression to introduce herself to her superior officer, whether they were official or not.
Sill-con: Then it is in your fortune that I know the location of the stand-in and will be reporting to them shortly after I have completed my brief ship safety and integrity diagnostic.
Willow: Ship safety and integrity diagnostic? I don’t believe that I learned about such responsibilities during my time at the Academy. Yet, from my time in the Risian security force, I do have an understanding that security involves more than merely protecting others from outside danger.
Beyond her insatiable curiosity and excitement, Haukea was known for telling it like it was.
Sill-con: Indeed, we at security are not just assigned to protect others from outside danger… but also possible dangers within. Faulty equipment, withering structures and unsafe working environments are up to us to detect to ensure the safety of the crew from themselves or others who grow… complacent.
Willow: Extremely reasonable. Frankly anything can become a danger if you let it. I feel silly for not taking such a responsibility into account.
Sill-con: I would not blame you for not knowing, most of my classmates became security officers for… and I quote “the thrill of fighting bad guys”... let's just say ship diagnostic skills weren't on their agenda. In any case I recommend you follow me on my routine, since we both desire to head to the stand-in eventually, and perhaps you can get first hand experience in security… unless you desire to adventure out on your own again.
The Risian woman did not at all desire to adventure out on her own again. Not only did she not want to get lost again, even after having her tour, but her excitement at learning the craft from a fellow officer was enticing.
Willow: I would very much love it if I could join you on your shift. It would do a great deal of good to be able to shadow a fellow officer.
Sill-con: Hm, I thought as much.
The more experienced officer gave a noise of agreement, tilting his head to one side. With nothing more of an indication for Haukea to follow him, Sill-con walked on. Haukea followed, finding it difficult, but not unbearable, to keep up with his long strides. A pace or two behind him, Haukea-Willow followed Sill-con into the transporter room. It wasn’t the first time that day she had been in that particular location.
Willow: So, I take it you have conducted this sort of safety check before?
Sill-con: Response
Willow: I have no doubt. Please walk me through your process.
Sill-con: Response
Willow: Only surface level? What if an issue is deeper than that?
Sill-con: Response
Willow: Of course! How silly of me. It’s only reasonable to then contact the appropriate head of staff in order to double check.
Sill-con: Response
