((Holodeck 1, Deck 463, Administration Section, Starbase 118))
The Kobayashi Maru scenario was usually part of the curriculum for command track cadets at Starfleet Academy, however, it had become so famous, or perhaps infamous, amongst cadets, officers and enlisted alike, that many people these days enjoyed testing their wits against the program.
Gogi himself had tried and of course, failed the scenario. Everybody failed…with one notable exception. Still, that didn’t stop people thinking they might be the one to find some *legal* way of beating the program and writing their names in the history books.
As part of her continued training, Gogi had decided it would be a good learning curve for Ensign Marsh to try her hand at the Kobayashi Maru. After all, Doctors were sworn to protect life and do no harm, so he was fascinated to see the approach a Medical officer would take to the scenario.
Now, he stood on the bridge of the USS Enterprise NCC-1701 (no bloody A, B, C or D), slightly to the left of the command chair, where Madison had taken her seat, in period appropriate uniforms, of course. Being a Security officer at heart, Gogi had opted for a red shirt. It seemed appropriate, given the likelihood of perishing in this simulation.
The holodeck had populated the rest of the Bridge stations with generic characters and the distinctive bells and whistles of the Constitution-class ship were audible in what would have otherwise been a tense silence.
The Enterprise was on course to the Gamma Hydra system, near the border of the Klingon Neutral Zone, but, right on schedule, the comms officers turned to face the Centauran in the centre seat.
Comms: Captain, we are receiving a distress call from the Kobayashi Maru. ::pausing while listening:: A civilian freighter ::pausing again, a growing look of concern evident on their face:: in the Klingon Neutral Zone.
Marsh: Response
Comms: The ship has been disabled and heavily damaged ::pause:: and we are the only ship in range.
Marsh: Response
Gogi rocked on his heels, hands clasped behind his back, as he listened to the exchange. Of course, this was just setting the scene for the scenario, everyone knew what happened next. The question was - how would Madison handle it?
Fairhug: What are your orders, *Captain*?
Marsh: Response
