(( Taybrim's Office - Starbase 118 ))

Taybrim: I’d much rather host the Ops staff.  Then I could connect with all my old friends and endlessly pester the new arrivals until they too become friends.

Any shore leave on Raskor was a lovely shore leave as far as Sal Taybrim was concerned.  Then again Raskor was now his home and he knew all the lovely things about it, which new folks would have to learn.  Everyone tended to like what they knew.

McLaren: Well you could always request a starship, if you wanted to dissuade your mother from visiting. Im sure command would give you one.

His dark eyes sparkled.  He did want to get back out into the stars again, but he also knew his duties.

Taybrim: Deep space missions?  You know I haven’t done one of those since I was posted on the Excalibur. They never were for me.

McLaren: It was mostly a joke. I don't think either of us could leave this sector without some persuasion, but I'd be lying if I had said the past couple years hadn’t had me thinking on what it might be like and where I might want to go.

Taybrim: If you got the chance to go explore deep space, would you actually go?

He was curious and asked it without judgement.

McLaren: No... I don't think Im actually considering it at the moment. Just one of those flights of fancy, you know? What if kinda thing? I think my "old" age is making me more reflective... :: Of course she was only 35, and not actually that old, but boy did she sometimes feel it. :: Besides there aren't many places in the fleet in need of a career intelligence officer at the moment anyway, so you're all stuck with me.

He grinned at that, raising his glass and nodding.

Taybrim: I’ll stay stuck with you!

McLaren: Plus someone has to keep you out of trouble.

He looked back at her, looking oh so innocent.

Taybrim: Keep me out of trouble.  I’m not that much trouble…

Then again maybe he was the most trouble.

McLaren: ?

Taybrim: But I do like the idea of having a ship on hand.  Maybe not getting a deep space exploration vessel, but it would be nice if Raskor had its own assigned diplomatic vessel.

Something similar to the Narendra, large, comfortable, designated as a base ship with plenty of extra space for accommodations, but with enough teeth to dissuade anyone from attackiong the diplomats.

That would also give Sal the chance to be on the bridge of a ship again.  Get off Raskor from time to time.  He liked that.

McLaren: ?

Taybrim: Not right away, no.  The fleet is still allocating resources to critical areas.  Frontier Day hit hard. We recovered quickly – on the surface – or might I say the Federation recovered quickly.  Starfleet has been working hard to rebuild.

McLaren: ?

Taybrim: There’s been a lot of movement recently. Not only did we lose a lot of individuals in Frontier Day, but it also caused movement. Some, like myself, moved up giving officers like Gogi a chance at command. Others like Admiral Rahman retired. Some people couldn’t handle what happened, or needed time to recover and recuperate themselves. Either way, lots of the newly built ships have been launched by new up and coming faces.  It feels like the fleet has changed, new, fresh, different. I like chang, it brings possibility.

McLaren: ?

Taybrim: I couldn’t begin to guess at the future.  Only that the right now feels pretty darn OK.

He lifted his glass once more.

McLaren: ?
