Voss: ::with a hushed breath:: Oh it’s beautiful!

Lorana: It truly is.

Unlike Lyra, Tori had a front-row view of the Drakos Cluster from the cramped bridge of the Maximum Thrusters. Seeing the system from a detached perspective like this with state-of-the-art holoprojectors, it almost seemed like a different place.

Lorana: You should test the spectrum settings!

Ysatch: Oh you're in for quite a light show there. The planetary collisions that happened in this system left behind some stunning radiation. ::chuckling:: It was a huge pain in the neck.

As Lyra flipped through the data settings, Tori felt a pang of nostalgia. He had their last mission -- his first and only -- still very fresh in his mind after the awards ceremony last night. The excitement, the wonder, the triumph, the regrets. He wondered if they would fade in time as he became more experienced, or would they always feel as fresh and raw as they did now.

Voss: Look at the resolution! This is just… ::zooming in on a random asteroid:: I mean… I could count the craters!

Lorana: It could probably do that for you :: Luxa looked to the console display :: Yes, I think you can toggle the data strings on and off.

Ysatch: If you want a real challenge, see if you can tell which of those craters are man-made. We found a lot of those asteroids had been hollowed out by mining.

Even though it had been his idea to pull up the Drakos Cluster, he was actually starting to get a little tired of it. Enough thinking about the past. It was time to move forward.

Voss: I have an idea! Let’s really see what these sensors can do. I want to send a message… ::randomly entering a set of coordinates in the Gamma Quadrant and finding a small. lonely planet, far away from any known habitable area:: *there.* I don’t care how long it takes to get there - I just need to plot the path for the signal, taking into account stellar and planetary bodies, black holes, gravity waves - anything that might interrupt it during the 70,000 lightyear trip. Can we plot a safe course?

Lorana: You’ll need to configure it to avoid all the communication relays to the Gamma Quadrant :: smiles :: Can’t make it too easy, Lyra!

Ysatch: I'm guessing then that the worm ... ::pauses to correct himself:: ... the Celestial Temple of the Prophets is off-limits as well?

Voss: ?

Tori watched as Lyra input her calculations, the line of the signal advancing from the far side of the galaxy, juking and sidestepping cosmic hazards as it went. Communications was Tori's wheelhouse, but Lyra barely needed any assistance.

Ysatch: There's a charted type 3 pulsar at G-237. Those are known to naturally amplify subspace signals if you get the timing of the lighthouse effect right.

Voss: ?

The line hit the pulsar then burst out the other side with renewed strength and speed before arriving safely at its destination.

Lorana: Not a bad job.

Ysatch: Nailed it!

Voss: ?

And then the holoprojectors shut down and the consoles went dark, with the overhead lights flickering slightly. Tori held his breath, awaiting the possibility of red alert sirens to blossom over the intercom. When they didn't, it tricked something in his memory.

Ysatch: Oh! I think I know what this is!

Voss/Lorana: ?

Dropping to his knees, he pulled himself under the console and found the maintenance panel exactly where he expected it to be. It sprung open at his touch and he quickly found the master configuration card.

Ysatch: ::muffled from under the console:: When you have a ship that's overpowered like the Aurora, sometimes the systems overdraw power when at rest and trip a safety shutdown. We did a case study on the Defiant class at the Academy, it had a lot of similar problems at launch.

Voss/Lorana: ?

He slid the configuration card back in and hit the reset button and was rewarded with the telltale sound of the console powering back up. He pushed himself back out from under the console, a pensive expression on his face.

Ysatch: I've actually been wondering about this. An advanced ship like the Aurora, with engines so powerful ... what kind of missions does Starfleet have in mind for us?

Voss/Lorana: ?
