((Bridge – MFT Maximum Thrusters))

The more time that passed with the damaged Maximum Thrusters going un-harassed, the more it seemed like there truly was no one out there interested in picking a fight with the limping ship.

oO Don't jinx it Oo

Foster: Alright Mi’sh – your job is straightforward. Get us back to the Temurian asteroid as fast as possible with as little damage as possible.  I believe in you.

Ysatch: Unlike some of your previous instructions today like "fly through a cone of mines" or "spin the ship 180 degrees in 2 seconds" this shouldn't be too much trouble.

sh’Sonora: ?

Foster: Ah yes and don’t shake, rattle and roll our poor refugees.  Preliminary scans indicate they’re more than a little dehydrated and likely exhausted.

Tori had almost forgotten that these were the same lifeforms he had detected earlier on the abandoned mining rig. The ones that had gotten him so angry, he had suggested blind beaming through the asteroid soup to retrieve them. The team on the Pigeon had done a much better job of it and without risk of disincorporating anyone's atoms into space.

Ysatch: Once things look under control down here, I'll grab a medkit and head down there to see if I can help.

sh’Sonora: ?

As the sensors suddenly went haywire, a part of Tori was very smugly declaring victory. Things had been going too well.

Foster: What’s that spike?

Ysatch: Ion surge off the port side! Sensors are struggling to resolve it.

sh’Sonora: ?

And then it was gone. A smattering of highly charged ions lay in its wake as evidence. Tori immediately began to run the sensor readings through a pattern-matching algorithm, but the phenomenon was too vague.

Foster: No, I don’t like it, either. But nothing shot at us, or tried to kill us… so we carry on.

Ysatch: The computer says there's a bunch of things it could be, but whatever it is, it's not there anymore.

sh’Sonora: ?

Tori frowned at one particular probability in the pattern-matcher. Older Klingon cloaking devices, if not maintained properly, can give off ion surges when they go to warp. The computer thought it just as likely as unexploded ordnance from the minefield, but it would be the second cloaked vessel they encountered today.

Either way, it was gone now. Tori made a mental note to flag it in his report to the Commander.

Tori began to think about what he would tell A'Mayri when they rendezvoused with her team back at the settlement. "I heard you almost blew up. Sorry the ship's broken, please help me fix it."

oO Let's work to come up with something better than that. Oo

Still, the very fact that he was going to see A'Mayri again felt almost like a miracle. They had dueled an Orion ship to a standstill, hijacked a swarm of antimatter mines, survived a weaponized warp core breach and a console that literally exploded in his face. That made for one hell of a first mission. He couldn't wait to write home to his parents about it, and then realized he should probably check in with Commander Ross first to see what he was and wasn't allowed to tell them.

Either way, he was alive and he was smiling. And it only took him one try, this time.

(((OOC, I think that's it for Tori although I will happily add on any tags that come up. Great first mission)))
