(OOC – looks like Ryden Sylvax’s sim snuck onto the list before Bremi’s. I have stitched the two sims together, fortunately they fit together pretty well  )

((Sickbay - Starbase 118))

At this point in time a significant portion of the civilians and crew of StarBase 118 were affected by an unknown energy wave that caused a profound amount of memories to be blocked.

Not wiped. Wyn was pretty sure, even from his own experience – experience backed up with brain scans – that the memories were still there.  They seemed to taught him from the edges of his mind and slip back in through unconscious pathways. But they were blocked.  The more he tried to recall them, the more they slipped away into the darkness of his mind.

But Commodore Taybrim – the looming command officer over the entire sector – had contacted him – yes really him!  Telling him to welcome and onboard a recently graduated Ensign, Bremi Taida, with a science focus.

A science focus would be great in this case!  And unaffected by memory loss was even better. Someone who could bounce off Dr. Sylvax in real time instead of wondering how much he might be missing with twelve years of memories blocked.

Foster: Bajoran, Ensign, Science… ::He looked up, antennae quavering::

Probably the person who just came through the door.

Wyn steadied himself.  He couldn’t remember how he got to be a Lt. Commander. He didn’t know what leadership or diplomatic skills he picked up along the way. But he did remember what it felt like to be a newly assigned ensign and how much he wanted someone to step forward and help guide him into the mission at hand.

Well, red collar, that’s your role.  He swallowed and stepped forward ready to do this, even if it seemed a little shaky.

Foster: Hello, Ensign Bremi?

Sylvax: Welcome to Sickbay, Ensign.

Bremi: ::lets go of the breath she was holding, glad to see he didn't seem to even notice she was late:: Hello, Commander Foster. I'm happy to be here.

And they were happy to have her here.  Each clear head in the discussion raised their chances of success, which was a great thing.

What next?  Oh!  Introductions. Let’s define who is who. Wyn could do that, too.

Foster: I’m Dr. Wyn Foster – Also Lt. Commander Foster, but I’m not exactly at my best right now. That’s OK, we’re actively working on fixing it. This is Dr. Ryden Sylvax. Welcome to the team!

Sylvax: We’re glad you’re here. We could use every clear mind we can get.

Bremi: Are you sick, Sir? O-oh! The memory thing! I was told that you lost your memories - I mean, briefed on the situation. ::Taida put her hands behind her back to wiggle her fingers and get rid of some of the embarrassed energy.:: Is there anything I can do to help?

Wyn wiggled his antennae and offered a light smile at that.  He might prefer being sick at this point. But still, he remembered he was a Starfleet officer, and he had his medical knowledge.  That was what he needed.

Sylvax: Ensign, the short version... approximately a portion of the station experienced sudden retrograde memory loss following an energy wave that passed through the starbase. ::He gestured to the primary display, where overlapping neural scans rotated in slow sequence.:: The affected personnel retain procedural memory and autonomic function. They can walk, speak, perform trained tasks. But episodic recall... personal history, recent assignments, contextual continuity... is disrupted. The working theory is that the energy surge interfered with electrical signaling pathways, specifically those responsible for conscious memory retrieval. The data suggests the memories are still present... just inaccessible.

Foster: The memories are still there, but I just can’t access them – at least not consciously.  Unconsciously I’ll just know certain things like where the medkits are stowed. Muscle memory type things.

At this point he figured speaking honestly about it might help everyone fix it faster.

Bremi: ?

Wyn was not gonna lie, he was glad Dr. Sylvax was able to step forward and give a comprehensive overview.  Wyn’s own brain was crunching through this problem, getting distracted by all the things he might know, but didn’t know. Which was at the same time very distracting and very aggravating,

Sylvax: We’re comparing the waveform to a documented artifact encounter involving the Constitution-B. There are similarities in energy signatures. If we can map the wavelength interference precisely, we may be able to counteract it... restore synchronization between neural regions. ::He met Bremi’s gaze directly now.:: We need environmental analysis. Residual energy traces. Pattern modeling. Anything that helps us determine whether the wave originated externally or from within the station. And we need to know if there’s a risk of a secondary pulse.

Bremi: ?

Sylvax: You, like me, are currently unaffected. That makes you one of our most valuable assets.

Foster: And with a fresh point of view maybe you’ll see something we haven’t seen yet.

Bremi: ?

Foster: The energy wave affected a large portion of the starbase population. We’ve seen almost every species affected. Andorians, Betazoids, Denobulans, Gorn.

Bremi / Sylvax: ?

He stopped and considered the question of who had not been affected.  He dipped his head back towards the reports and his antennae wiggled.

Foster: We don’t have any reports of ferengi and other four-lobed brain species being affected.  ::he paused and his antennae flared:: And we don’t have any reports of any… Humans… being affected.

That was an odd one.  What did Humans have that other species didn’t have? Was it a coincidence or was it the key to restoring memories?

Bremi / Sylvax: ?
