((Holodeck 1 - SB118))

Dylan glanced from the improvised cart back to Lyra, then to S’zurak before stepping closer to the carts, attention catching on the controls. Stripped down. Purpose-built.

Her brother would definitely love this. The speed. The risk. The lack of guardrails.

The thought drew the faintest smile before it faded.

Dylan rested a hand briefly against the side of one of the carts. Solid. Real enough.

That helped.

Bryce: ::quiet, checking rather than joking:: The holodeck safeties are on… right?

She withdrew her hand, folding both behind her back again.

sh’Sonora: ::As she buckles in her helmet, slipping her antennae past the two accommodating holes.:: These days? Unless it’s a training exercise and one of the senior staff override it, there’s no way we’re allowed to make it realistic. Too many officers trying stupid dren ruining the fun for the rest of us.

Dylan wasn’t sure she agreed with the definition of “fun.”

Voss: Computer, are the holodeck safeties on? ::shrugging:: Doesn’t hurt to double check.

Computer: Safeties are currently engaged.

sh’Sonora: ::Makes a sour face.:: oO Lame! Come on, let’s school these newbies. Oo

S’zurak: I for one, am glad the ssafetiess are on…

Dylan’s mouth curved faintly at that.

Bryce: To be honest... this is something my brother would love... me, not so much.

The admission came easily. The memory followed—her brother’s grin, the way he’d lean into risk without hesitation.

sh’Sonora: ::Flashes a wide cheery smile.:: Your brother sounds awesome, Ensign. Is he single?

Dylan blinked once, then huffed a quiet, noncommittal breath. She didn’t answer and didn’t need to.

Lyra smirked.

Voss: This is uh… not my usual thing either. Actually, I… don’t know how to drive a car at all? Not that this looks like a typical car but… Anybody have any pointers before I drive directly off this road?

Dylan shifted her attention back to the vehicles as Mi’shune launched into an enthusiastic explanation.

sh’Sonora: It’s pretty simple. See that round thing in the front? Steering wheel, like a flight control stick, but you only get left or right. For forward and back, you have the accelerator pedal, that’s the big one by your right foot, and next to that you have the brake pedal, in case you want to stop, or if you want to drift.

S’zurak: Thanksss for the… crash course ::grinning::

Bryce: Left, right, forward, stop. That seems deceptively simple.

Lyra explored one of the carts, tapping at a flush screen on the back. Dylan watched as the vehicle shimmered and reshaped itself into something aggressively neon.

Voss: Are any of these… simpler to drive than the others?

sh’Sonora: Great for top speed, but handles like a rock rolling downhill. If you’re new you’ll want something with better handling. Try the next one.

Bryce: Handling sounds like the priority, not speed.

S’zurak: ::To Dylan:: Then one of us is going to have that pink… thing. I will take it.

Dylan glanced at the bright pink cart, then back to S’zurak.

She inclined her head once. Appreciative. He climbed in, looking deeply unimpressed.

Bryce: That’s generous of you.

Lyra selected a black-and-neon-green drift car instead, the lights on the front giving it a vaguely predatory look.

Voss: ::whispering to the car:: Please don’t kill me, okay? Deal? ::to everyone else:: I suppose we –

Dylan paused beside her cart.

It was… fine. Sensible. Compact. A neutral slate-blue frame with no dramatic fins or neon nonsense. The holodeck’s default choice appeared if it couldn’t read your preferences, or if it chose not to argue.

She rested her hands on the edge of the cockpit, considering it.

oO What would Evan do? Oo
