((Impound Bay 42 – StarBase 118))
Tori had been in a hangar bay before. Orderly queues to board transport ships. Neat little rows of Starfleet shuttlecraft. But he had never seen such a hodgepodge of clashing interstellar architecture before.
Zel: Welcome to Bay 42. Come on inside. That is the MFT Maximum Thrusters. No I didn’t name it, and yes that’s one of the ship’s we’ll be using.
sh’Sonora: Heh heh heh. I’m so flying that thing.
A’Mayri: ::selecting MFT profile, slightly surprised expression:: A cargo ship sir? It appears well armored compared to its usual counterparts…
Tori eyed the blocky vessel. Not much to look at from the outside, which was kind of the idea, right? The name implied a lot more going on beneath.
Ysatch: I wanna meet the person who did name her.
Munshi: ?
Zel: That’s a good question. For the mission we’ll want something that can take a few hits and give a few hits while maintaining cover. The Klingon Condor is a solid choice as the Klingons do a lot of trade and any Klingon ship had shields and weapons. The Orion Syndicate cruisers are solid, too. This Ferasa Shuttle would be a good choice if I can get her fixed again…
Sh’Sonora: I might be able to get that beast running.
Tori was still getting to know the Andorian pilot, but her aviators might as well be heart-shaped when she looked at the Ferasa shuttle. Tori didn't even know who the Ferasa were, but when a pilot gets that look about a ship, buckle your safety harness.
sh’Sonora: I mean, look around. You got more Orion small craft than a syndicate pirate gang, and half of them are made by the same cartel. Have to be. They’re used to functioning in less than ideal environments being worked on by amateur shuttle mechanics with very little material support. Cross-compatibility’s important to keep them operating. Besides, auxiliary vessel operation’s my specialty.
A’Mayri: I believe it’s often seen that any process that integrates a margin of misuse or calculated increased wear often develops the most adaptive and sustainable technology. If a craft is created under the expectation that it is to be maintained perfectly, then no single organization would get very far because meeting those standards would be unrealistic and taxing.
Ysatch: I suppose having more craft than a syndicate pirate gang helps if you're trying to pretend to be a syndicate pirate gang.
Munshi: ?
Zel: You tell me, which one of these do you want to take on a test run? I figure both Ensign sh’Sonora and myself can each fly a ship and let you all get inside, see how the engines and mechanics work, and get a feel for the thing.
Ysatch: I'm definitely not a ship expert, but the Klingon condor-class definitely caught my eye.
Munshi: ?
Zel: I have flown all of them, multiple times. Stress tested if you will. Pick one and I can tell you about it!
sh’Sonora: I’ll let you all have the first pick. Besides… ::She looked over at the Ferasa.:: …it’d all pale in comparison, and she’s on blocks.
A’Mayri: I would like to ride alongside Ensign sh’Sonora if possible sir, and if you are alright with it of course ::Looks towards Mi’shune::
sh’Sonora: ?
Ysatch: Well if you two are pairing up, how about the Lieutenant and I take the Klingon Condor and then Munshi, you can join either group?
Munshi/Zel: ?
As much as he enjoyed working alongside A'Mayri, Tori had decided he wanted to get to know the Lieutenant better from the moment he clocked he was at least part Bajoran. Growing up, Tori hadn't known any other Bajorans besides his parents. He had originally hoped his time at Starfleet Academy would let him connect with more of his people, but he never quite fit in with the school's extracurricular Bajoran Society. He had eventually quit when he overheard an upperclassman jokingly call him "the least Bajoran Bajoran" he had ever met.
He knew better than to barge in and start asking deeply intrusive questions about the personal background of a more-senior officer he literally just met. But the way to get to know someone was to spend time with them.
Ysatch: The lieutenant had flagged the Klingon ship as a potential choice and I've always appreciated Klingon systems. They're simple and blunt, but that's because engineering knowledge in the Empire isn't -- what's the polite way to say this -- evenly distributed. It has to work for a warrior who thinks regular maintenance is a job for a petaQ. ::blushes:: Sorry for swearing.
sh’Sonora/Munshi/Zel: ?
A’Mayri: Even if this only is categorized as a test run, it is exciting to be able to endeavor on a flight and engineering observation outside of schooling. A first official and non official flight.
Ysatch: ::walking backwards towards the Klingon ship:: Last one out of the hangar owes a round of raktajinos.
sh’Sonora/Munshi/Zel: ?
Turning, Tori bounded up the boarding ramp of the Klingon shuttle. No carpeting here, his shoes making heavy *plink* noises against the duranium. The shuttle's interior was similarly bare. Two seats and two control panels and some benches for passengers.
Ysatch: ::to Zel, gesturing at co-pilot seat:: You said you'd be piloting, so I'll post up here?
Munshi/Zel: ?
Punching up the screen, he was greeted by the aggressive lettering of the Klingon alphabet. He knew a tiny bit of Klingon, such as "hello," "goodbye" and "I'd like my gagh pre-killed, please." Nowhere near enough to be able to help operate this vehicle.
Ysatch: There's a way to get this translated, I hope. If not, I can probably figure it out.
Munshi/Zel: ?
He began to punch through standard pre-flight moves. Heat up the warp core. Powering on essential systems. Establishing a link to the cargo bay door controls.
Ysatch: Don't quote me on this, but I think we're ready to go!
Munshi/Zel: ?
((OOC: Munshi, I put in tags at the end in case you decide to come with us. If you go with A'Mayri and sh'Sonora instead, you can ignore them.))
