Commander Gogigobo Fairhug - A Warm Welcome

The doors swished open and the Ensign entered to find Gogi with his hand on his bearded chin, analysing a painting. Little did she know this was most certainly *not* a common situation in which to find the base’s CO. It might have looked impressive at this moment, but Gogi was not the kind of person who stood around considering art very much. Not to say that he didn’t want to. He just didn’t really understand it. Maybe one day he would have the time to study such things further.
Maybe.
Fairhug: ::turning his head to look at Bryce:: Ahh, Ensign Bryce. Welcome.
Bryce: Thank you, Commander.
He looked back at the painting.
Fairhug: What do you think?
Bryce: About the office, sir? It has a clear sense of purpose.
Now he turned fully to face the new arrival.
Fairhug: The painting! Does it suit the room? I think it may be a bit dark.
Bryce: It’s powerful. Hard to ignore. I’m not much of an expert in décor. My quarters look like they came straight out of an equipment catalog.
Fairhug: Please, be honest! I’m trying to add some personal touches to the office, but I’m not someone who generally decorates. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Bryce offered a friendly smile and then the fuller perspective he’d asked for.
Bryce: In that case… the painting clearly matters to you. That comes through. If you want the office to reflect something personal, it works well for that. If you’re aiming for a lighter atmosphere, you might balance it with something else. There’s no wrong choice here. It’s just a matter of what you want the space to say about you.
There was a pause as Gogi eyed the new arrival. An equally friendly smile slowly grew across his lips.
Her answer was sure, but not cocky or condescending. She seemed wise beyond her years and was a steady, calming presence.
All in all, pretty much exactly what one would expect of a Starfleet Counselor.
Fairhug: I like that answer.
He really did. She made an excellent point - it was important to him and that made it suitable. There were other touches he could add along the way, but for now, at least, the painting stayed.
Bryce: For what it’s worth, sir, it makes the room feel more like someone works here. That’s usually a good place to start.
He looked back at the painting and nodded.
Fairhug: I completely agree.
Another pause. Though Gogi held the Ensign’s gaze, sizing her up. She remained still and confident in her stance. He was impressed so far.
Bryce: You mentioned wanting to meet now that we’re back from Capricalia. How can I help today?
Fairhug: Ah! Yes. ::gesturing to a chair on one side of his main work desk:: Please take a seat.
Bryce: Response
As she did so, the Bardeezan walked to the opposite side of the room and ordered a gunpowder tea from the replicator.
Fairhug: Would you like something to drink?
Bryce: Response
Drinks in hand, he walked back over and placed them on the desk, before sitting on the opposite side and leaning back slightly to get comfortable.
Fairhug: How are you settling in now that we’re back on the base?
She had mentioned something about her quarters not being decorated yet. Was that by choice? Or just because she hadn’t had a chance to add any personal touches? They hadn’t been back from Capricalia long, after all. Still, not everyone packed their quarters full of trinkets. His own quarters had always been spartan at best, until he had met Juryana, that was.
Bryce: Response
He lifted his tea and took a sip as he listened to her response. The hot liquid burned its way down his throat and into his stomach in a comforting way and he found himself relaxing further at the feeling.
Fairhug: Well, it takes time, of course. I hope your quarters are to your liking? If not, just let me know and we can arrange something else. ::pause:: Have you had a chance to look around the base much at all?
Bryce: Response
