((Academy Campus Green – StarBase 118))

Graduation from the Academy had come faster than expected, and Koyan was a little overwhelmed with the prospect of just what stood before them. It was a daunting prospect. Despite having trained for it for years, holding the lives of others in one's hand was never a casual experience.

Taybrim: Ensign Koyan, it is a pleasure to meet you!

Just as startling as the idea of having to make life or death decisions was, so too surprising was it to see such a senior ranked officer approached them. And their new Commanding Officer to boot. The Worene stood up a little taller, drawing themselves to a more presentable posture from their usual slouch.

Koyan: Oh, Sir. I wasn't expecting to see you here. The pleasure is mine.

Koyan did have to wonder if this was normal procedure.

Taybrim: I would not miss graduation day for anything, Ensign.  Especially when I have the rare pleasure of welcoming a new officer to the staff of StarBase 118 itself.

Koyan hadn't quite been certain what to expect their first assignment to be. Being assigned to Starbase 118 might at first seem less exciting than being posted to a ship, but, the Worene was quick to realize the opportunity before them. It'd provide a far more stable platform to begin their research into the affliction of their species.

Koyan: Then it's confirmed? I have a posting here?

There had been a moment of doubt, if a clerical error had seen them assigned to the base they'd already been studying in, but, the Commodore's presence eased those doubts.

Taybrim: Yes, you’ll be one the senior medical staff of StarBase 118 and it’s supporting missions.  We do have a few ships that we take out from time to time.

Koyan: So there's going to be work off-station? I don't mean to take up much of your time, I imagine you're quite busy.

The thought of that hadn't occurred to the Worene. But, of course, it made sense. Starbase 118 would have a large sector to watch over. And, in a way, it gave Koyan the chance to experience the best of both worlds. Work in the field and in the lab. An exciting prospect.

Taybrim: I’m avoiding paperwork, Ensign, you can take your time and ask all the questions you like!

Koyan: I appreciate that. ::Koyan paused a moment to think:: One thing I would like to ask is, when and if it would be possible to requisition a lab space for personal research?

Taybrim: Response

Over 98% of Worene experienced a mental affliction sometimes referred to as 'Hunter's Rage', where the normally peaceful Worene lost their senses and became violent and confrontational. It set in as early as the 40th and 50th year of life and was a horrible thing to behold. A loved one could become completely unrecognizable and a danger to themselves and those around them. A tragedy, truly, and the reason why Koyan had joined Starfleet, in the hopes of finding a cure one day.

Koyan: Now that I have access to the rest of the station, is there anywhere you'd recommend I get familiar with? After reporting in to medical, of course!

Taybrim: Response

Koyan: I'll have to keep that in mind. I imagine though I've got quite the day ahead of me, the first day of assignment.

The Worene was a little nervous, as anyone facing a new position would be. But they were excited at the same time. Butterflies was the human term they'd heard to explain it once.
