Gagh.

Wyn had a very love-hate relationship with the food in that he loved the tasted and hated the texture. And the worst part was when they died and lost that wriggle that tripped all his senses into rejection mode, the taste changed and they were no longer as addictively savory and umami. It was true that they weren’t good when they lost the wriggle.

Oh, sadness. One would think they would be able to replicate that delicious gagh flavor in a different form, but no, there was something about the live wriggling critters stewed perfectly ion their spiced spa that retained a natural miracle of flavor that dead gagh could not hope to accomplish and replicators paled in comparison.

S’zurak: ::nodding:: Glad to hear it. Then you have no problem taking a whole handful, right?

Foster: Seriously?! ::he waved a hand and laughed:: Alright, alright, I won’t keep yapping.

He didn’t take a big handful, but he did take one.

Ugh, that wriggle.  He had to get over that wriggle.

But dang was the taste spot on.  Complex, meaty, spiced, umami.  And when you bit them they burst with natural juices.  Ok, blood and viscera.  But juices sounded more culinary – and that just heightened the umami. Once they were dead when you bit them they were dry and crunchy and lost that addictive umami quality.

S’zurak: What an exquisite taste. Thisss could be the best gagh I’ve ever had. They sure ssspared no expense for this party.

He finished chewing.

Foster: I can’t disagree.  The taste is addictive.  Really good.

He meant it.  Now that he had the taste of it the second handful went more smoothly.  He stuffed a second handful in his mouth with far les disgust and far more pleasure registering on his features.

S’zurak: So what are sssome of your favorite foodss?

That was a tricky question because Wyn likes a lot of things.

Most things.

He liked to eat.

Foster: I sort of an equal opportunity eater.  But I grew up on Earth and I have a soft spot for French fries.

That was his guilty pleasure. Crunchy, creamy, fried and salty.

S’zurak: Those golden rectangless you get from burger places? I’ve found them too salty.

Wyn chuckled.  That was one of the reasons he enjoyed them.

Foster: Oh man, no, the salt… I like to run long distances, and after a run those fries... I’ll gulp a giant cup of water and the get those fries.  They hit the spot perfectly.

He considered that some people also dipped them in many things. Ketchup, mayonnaise, garlic aioli, chili sauce and malt vinegar were all things he had tried in the past.

Foster: Of course lots of people also dip them in sauces, which changes the flavor profile.

S’zurak: I’ll keep that in mind.

He looked back at S’zurak curiously.

Foster: Didn’t know you liked burgers.  Any other foods you favor?

S’zurak: If it’s meaty, I like it. Recently, I’ve found I love barbeque. Sssweet and sssmoky flavors pair nicely.

Wyn swallowed his third handful of gagh – they really did go down easier once you remembered how tasty they were.

Foster: Oh, barbecue is so good.  Little Risa does a mean beach barbecue every other Sunday.

He waved towards the beach across the lake.

S’zurak: ?

Foster: Risian food is very… hedonistic.  Rich and tasty.  They cover everything in unctuous sauces that make pretty much everything taste good.

S’zurak: ?

Foster: I am willing to try just about anything, at least once.  You never know what you will like until you try it.

S’zurak: ?

He leaned back and considered.

Foster: Maybe next shore leave instead of a holodeck cart race we plan an epic food-hop around the promenade and try all the foods?

It would be hedonistic and maybe a little gluttonous, but still oh so delicious.

S’zurak: ?

He shrugged thinking about it.

Foster: Maybe an intense exercise session first and then we feast?

He didn’t know what kind of exercise gorn might be into, but nothing got Wyn’s appetite up more than exercise.

S’zurak: ?
