IVANI: Cardassians are like wolves, they're loyal to the pack but only
because the Alpha's particularly cruel and keeps the others on a short
leash. If they can gain glory to raise themselves up in the eyes of
their leaders, they will do it, no matter the cost. The Gateway is a
prize indeed.
KVITOVA: Well, you've said it all, haven't you? Oh, and what was that
old adage about the corruptive force of power?
IVANI: Absolute power corrupts absolutely.
::And while the Federation had it's standards and ideals, Ivani was not
so naive to think that there was no darkness present in what was over
all a beneficial organisation.::
KVITOVA: Well, the question remains, what can /we /do about it?
IVANI: Very little I imagine.
::Ivani came to a pause before two chairs and took the opportunity to
procure one for himself. She flicked a hand toward the other, though
whether or not he sat didn't really matter to her. She wanted off her
feet.::
:: He nodded, again slowly, but this time he was quite certain of his
intent behind it. ::
KVITOVA: We helped discover it. We share some personal and individual
responsible in it, do we not?
IVANI: Do we? It's not as if we could have ignored a direct order. We
answer to a higher authority and we've made vows that are not easily
broken - nor necessarily should they be.
KVITOVA: I suppose you could say that, but....
IVANI: But?
He stared off past her and Ivani twisted in her seat to gaze out the
window. The sight caused her to do a literal double take. Two ships,
one Federation, another Cardassian hovered near the Mercury. Not just
any Cardassian ship - a war ship.::
KVITOVA: Well, well, well. What do you make of that, Ms. Gupta?
IVANI: What do I make of that? I make that to be the Cardassians
holding back because they aren't sure whether or not they could survive
this fight. And while they aren't afraid to fight, they aren't stupid
enough to do so to their detriment.
::She swung her legs around and faced the window fully, eyes shifting
between the two ships.::
IVANI: And I would say, here comes the calvary.
RESPONSE?
