USS Khitomer – Gel Pack Disaster Response Plan

Prepared by Lt. Ras El’Heem, Science Division
Stardate 240209.16

This memorandum provides crew-wide guidance in the event of Sencha Radiation exposure upon our arrival at the Lagoon Nebula. All departments are expected to review and adhere to these protocols.

I. OVERVIEW: SENCHA RADIATION

Sencha Radiation is a temporal-energetic hazard. Unlike standard ionizing radiation, it disrupts the chronological stability of living cells and neural tissues.

Common symptoms may include:

  • Headache, nausea, disorientation
  • Fatigue and confusion
  • Sudden unconsciousness
  • Cellular desynchronization (“time cancer”) – treatable if addressed promptly

Telepathic personnel are at significantly higher risk. Additional symptoms may include sensory overload, psychic dissonance, loss of consciousness, coma, or fatal neurological collapse. Effects may present immediately.

Protective Implants:
All personnel have been issued subdermal implants (gluteal placement) designed to stabilize cellular activity and shield against low-to-moderate Sencha exposure. These implants will mitigate most radiation events.

If an implant fails or symptoms override protection:

  • Report to Sickbay without delay.
  • Do not attempt to continue duty while symptomatic.

II. IMPACT ON SHIP SYSTEMS

Sencha Radiation directly interferes with bio-neural circuitry. Gel packs are primary points of vulnerability.

Possible outcomes of pack compromise:

  • Immediate burnout
  • System corruption spreading to adjacent packs
  • Localized fire or small-scale explosion
  • Erratic ship function (false readings, weapons misfire, life support fluctuations)

Severity depends on the type of pack and radiation dose.

III. GEL PACK VULNERABILITIES

New Generation Gel Packs

  • Improved efficiency and adaptive learning.
  • Highly susceptible to Sencha Radiation; may fail within seconds of exposure.

Retrofitted Old Generation Packs

  • More resistant.
  • Automatically initiate protective rolling blackouts just prior to predicted Sencha impact.
    • Expect temporary system pauses or lighting fluctuations.
    • Restoration follows automatically once exposure has passed.

Spare Packs

  • Stored at designated junctions across the vessel.
  • All spares are fitted with inhibitors. Refer to departmental schematics for nearest cache locations.

IV. CREW PROCEDURES DURING SENCHA EVENTS

  1. Blackout Protocols
    • Remain calm during rolling blackouts.
    • Do not attempt manual overrides.
    • Await automatic system restoration.
  2. Reporting
    • Immediately report any suspected gel pack failure to Lt. JG Amelia Semara (Bridge Coordinator).
    • Use shipwide comms if local channels are down.
  3. Replacement Chain
    • Only proceed with replacement when directed by Amelia or the Gel Pack Swap Task Force.
    • If Amelia is occupied or unreachable, request clearance from the Gel Pack Swap Task Force before action.
  4. Replacement Procedure (Authorized Personnel Only)
    • Retrieve spare pack from nearest cache.
    • Power down affected junction.
    • Remove failed pack using insulated tools.
    • Insert replacement; verify diagnostic light.
    • Report completion to the Bridge.

Unauthorized handling of gel packs is prohibited due to risk of cascading failure.

V. ASSIGNED PERSONNEL

Gel Pack Swap Task Force

  • Lt. Ras El’Heem (Science)
  • Ensign Richard Matthews (Science)
  • Lt. Charles Matthews (Engineering)

Bridge Coordination

  • Lt. JG Amelia Semara (Point Officer for all gel pack reports and assignments).

VI. EXPECTED SCENARIOS

Red Alert:

  • Blackouts may occur during tactical operations.
  • Remain at station unless relieved for medical reasons.
  • Await Task Force deployment for technical intervention.

Protective Blackout:

  • Emergency lighting will remain active.
  • Life support will not be interrupted.
  • Stay in place unless movement is essential.

Sencha Casualty:

  • Contact Bridge immediately.
  • Do not attempt unauthorized repair.
  • Prepare area for Task Force arrival.

VII. SUMMARY DIRECTIVES

  • Rely on your protective implant; report immediately if symptoms override its function.
  • Report gel pack anomalies to Lt. JG Semara.
  • Follow blackout protocols without interference.
  • Do not attempt gel pack replacement unless cleared.

Adherence to these procedures ensures the safety of the crew and operational continuity of the USS Khitomer.
