OOC: I got permission to leave the first tags for the new ensign! Wheeeee!
IC:
((Shuttle Bay, USS Khitomer))
Shyla: Sip!
The declaration from the little girl as her mother carried her off of the USS Avignon, the roundabout which had shuttled both of them, along with another passenger to the Khitomer, was accompanied by a hand. Said hand was not empty. Within its curled fingers, it clutched a tail attached to a plush toy in the shape of a figure that was half cat and half tribble dressed in red Starfleet uniform.
Captain Twibble had travelled the galaxy with his owner ever since the child was old enough to understand that he was hers. More recently, a stuffed replica of the USS Independence, given to her by her ‘Unca Wil’, remained tightly held in her other hand. However, despite keeping a good grip on Captain Twibble’s tail, Shyla had managed to figure out how to unfurl a single finger so she could keep a good solid hold upon her beloved toy while also jauntily pointing out various things of interest. In that case, it was another ship in the bay, one that, if Alora hazard to guess, would serve as the captain’s yacht, but they were not at a good angle to see them name.
DeVeau: Yep, that’s another ship.
The child had done the same thing through the window when the Khitomer came into view before recreating a flight using her USS Independence and sitting Captain Twibble on top to ride it.
Alora had not come alone. While she was a passenger because she was visiting the Khitomer, someone else had also come along for the ride, but for a different reason. Her gaze shifted to the other rider, and a smile sprang to her lips.
DeVeau: Looks like we’re finally here.
Kmett: Response
Ensign Warr Kmett was a brand new cadet from the Academy. While Alora served as a proctor from time to time when she made trips back to the Alpha and Beta Quadrants, she had not, in that case, been a proctor of theirs. She had, however, the delightful privilege of being the first to welcome him to the ship - even though she wasn’t actually a crewmember on board.
DeVeau: Are you excited? It was probably a stupid question, but she asked it anyway.
Kmett: Response
Alora had also not come lightly packed. Although she kept her own clothing to a minimum, children usually required more, and even if she could replicate everything, it was better to reduce and reuse rather than use up energy, not to mention, what if the replicators malfunctioned or didn’t work? Then where would she be?
Not only that, the largest portion of her baggage didn’t have anything to do with essentials, but with gifts. Gifts for as many people as she could manage - though she only had so much to give out. However, she could always send more in the future! It would be a start though.
DeVeau: We should find the first officer or the captain. Both of us need to check in. You for official duty, and more for officially residing here for the next few weeks. Would you care to do the honour of asking the computer how to get to one of their offices?
It wasn’t a long trip, but Alora hoped to take a first hand look at some interesting experiments and samples of unique flora, as well as catch up with a couple of people she knew - including someone who had been a cadet in one of the classes she proctored.
