((Officer’s Mess, Deck 13, USS Khitomer, Dry-Dock at DS33))
It had been a long day, and an even longer week. With his work in security and on top of that assisting in repairs to the Khitomer, it made for a long ride back to DS33. Thankfully the station's repair teams were a much added boost in getting the ship back to working order. After his return to the station, he had tea with Semara and a video call from his mother, both of which had his mind preoccupied. Between his run in with the Lyr symbiont and his mother’s call, he was a bit more troubled than he might normally be. Both of them had him distracted.
He made a point to try and keep both of those thoughts out for as long as he could during his lunch date with Lera. Thankfully he was able to get some much needed free time to have lunch with her. The officer's mess was not his first choice in dining for lunch when docked at DS33, but given they had just completed some work of their own respectively in their departments, it was easier to just meet up here. After getting some food and drink, he took his plate and joined Lera.
Michaels: And maybe a good stiff drink.
Where did that come from? Was it the last mission they were just on? Or something else made her say that outloud?
Zerva: ::raising a brow:: A stiff drink?
Lera shook her head.
Michaels: Yes. It would take more than a stiff drink to have much impact. What I need is something... sweet. ::She stopped and allowed an almost wicked grin to cross her face.:: You go ahead and find us some place to sit. I am going to get something extra. Something special that I think you will like.
Ezra shook his own head. Whatever it was, he would find out soon enough. Doing a quick search, he found an empty table, setting his food down and waiting for Lera before digging into his meal.
Her special treat was a cut round bun with ridges on the top, sprinkled with sugar and having a brown cream filling visible on the sides, which was obvious on her tray. Ezra’s eyes went to what appeared to be a desert on her food try and then back to Lera. She smiled and gestured at the treat. It certainly looked tasty.
Michaels: This, assuming the replicator has not completely botched it, is a "pan de muerto relleno de crema chocolate." That is the Spanish name for it. Roughly translated, "bread of the dead with chocolate cream." It is a Mexican treat served on Dia de los Muertos, the day of the dead. :: Lera took a knife and cut the desert in half. :: Here. Give this a try.
The chocolate treat looked like it might give him a heart attack, but at that moment he didn’t really care. Taking his half from her and he gave it a big bite.
Zerva: Mmm ::mouth full:: It’s goom. ::beat:: Oh smorry! ::swallowing after a few more bites:: I like it. It’s good, but it’s a lot of sweet. I can’t imagine eating all this in one sitting.
Michaels: It is one of my childhood special treats. And if I were to eat the entire thing :: beat :: It has enough sucrose and chocolate in it that, well, I will not be feeling much pain. ::beat:: I promise I will behave myself afterwards. At least a little.
Ezra watched as Lera took a bite of her half of the treat. He knew what the effect might have on her and he made a point to make sure he kept Lera at her word. She seemed to be lost in thought for a brief moment as she ate.
Michaels: I may have to get with Amelia concerning this. Given her abilities I am certain she can make a better one. :: Lera placed the remainder back on the plate :: So. I assume you would like to get away from the job for a while and enjoy some of the offerings available at the base. Do we have plans for this evening?
Ezra grabbed a napkin and wiped away the chocolate around his mouth giving her a nod.
Zerva: I was thinking we could go to the vegetarian restaurant we went to last year with some of the crew? Mellow Mushroom. I quite liked the food there and I seem to recall you liked it as well. What do you think? A quiet dinner just the two of us?
Michaels: Response
Zerva: Great! I’ll set a reservation for six?
Michaels: Response
Zerva: Sounds like a plan, then…
His voice trailed off at the end. Ezra pushed around his food on the plate giving some of his food a nibble. He was trying to keep his mind off the things he told himself he would ignore during lunch with Lera, but it wasn't working very well.
Michaels: Response
Zerva: Oh, sorry. I don’t mean to ruin lunch. It’s just a few things that are on my mind as of late.
Michaels: Response
Zerva: ::putting his fork down:: My mother gave me a call right after we docked with the station. She said she’s coming here for a visit. She hates surprises and it’s punctual to a fault, so it should come as no surprise to me, but I’m nervous. She is supposed to arrive first thing in the morning tomorrow.
Michaels: Response
