((Primary Isolation lab, Main Sickbay, USS Khitomer - In orbit of Alpha Trionus II))
Melville-Kilpatrick: I thought they might have something to do with the condition of the body, or that at least they would have taken notes on which of these were used on which of our...patients?
Semara: Huh. :: Shaking her head, sending tresses scattering. :: Certainly not this vial. Scanner says Indolasynamine. :: Tucking her hair back in place. :: That's a medication for Betazoids who have trouble knowin' whose thoughts are whose.
Indolasynamine? For the Sheliak? What would be the point--as far as Thomas understood it, a Sheliak would have no use or abuse for that particular medication. Maybe it was another test, but he still considered it an oddity.
Ohnari: Wait...what? ::shaking her head:: That is incredibly weird....I've read reports of healthy Betazoids experimenting with Indolasynamine to...juke their telepathic senses. It sounds incredibly dangerous and unethical, but on a Class R3...? ::looking at her less gooey hand:: Do they even have neurotransmitters...? ::shaking her head:: Sorry, thinking out loud. I will reference the notes once they decrypt. For now...back to the....remains....
Thomas winced as the remains continued to fall apart.
oO Not good. Oo
Semara: :: A mirthful little huff. :: Right. I'll get outta your goo. Someone else can sort through these. I'll get Vel to pick these vials up and classify 'em. Soon as I know somethin', I'll let you know. I'm a call away if you need anything. :: Beat :: And Talia? I still owe the Ensign ice cream when you're done with him. Try not to ruin his appetite?
Ohnari: ::calling out:: No promises!!! ::glancing towards the Ensign:: Although...I would recommend against gelato....
Melville-Kilpatrick: Or frozen yogurt...
Ohnari: ::snorting:: Or that. ::sighing:: Lets take the samples we can and just lock up this place. We're risking complete degradation with the current set up. Maybe after we run a few tests, we can figure out why it is deteriorating so quickly and possibly reverse it.
Melville-Kilpatrick: I just hope this isn't ordinary Sheliak decomposition. It seems much too...messy.
Semara: =/\= Just got back. Doctors Melville-Kilpatrick and Ohnari are workin' on the body now... :: A heavy sigh. :: It's in bad shape, sir. I don't see a way to sell an escape story to the Sheliak short a' incineratin' the body and leavin' nothin' but residue. Even then, there's a risk of suspicious enzymatic traces if we ain't careful. =/\=
Shayne / Bridge:=/\= Response =/\=
Semara: =/\= Any chance everyone beamin' up means we got a plan that forgoes our little ruse? The body might be worth more in our sickbay than floatin' in a shuttle. =/\=
Ohnari: ::mouthing to Melville-Kilpatrick:: What ruse...?
Thomas opened his mouth to explain, but quieted when it was clear that the conversation wasn't quite over.
Hobart:=/\= Get whatever data you can, and then put the body in stasis. =/\=
Ohnari: =/\= Great minds and all that, Doctor Melville-Kilpatrick and I are going to pause the post mortem and see if we can stall the degradation. =/\=
Thomas nodded. There wasn't much else to do with a rapidly degrading body except try to make it degrade just a little slower. He could explain to Dr. Ohnari while they looked into the rest of the situation.
Ohnari: You heard the man, Let's seal it up.
(((Brief timeskip - Main Sickbay)))
Thomas was trying his best to sort through the extensive files that Semara had directed him to along with the materials he'd picked up. Maybe he shouldn't have volunteered for the PADDwork, because this post-mortem was harder to find than he'd expected. All the encryptions were being handled by a computer system that was much more clever than him when it came to this kind of thing.
Ohnari: Whoa. ::turning in her chair:: You have got to see this...
Melville-Kilpatrick: What's happening?
He walked over to look at what Dr. Ohnari was showing him.
Ohnari: Hydrofluoric Acid. Or, something very close. See that third chain? ::pointing to the screen:: It's not artificial. And unless we find some sort of...implant that Amelia had mentioned...the Sheliak have the ability to secret some version of...it's like a Sheliak cyanide capsule.....
Melville-Kilpatrick: I don't get it. Why allow capture, then use this hydrofluoric acid? Not that I'm advocating for suicide, but if the end goal is to die before you can give any information...well, I think maybe we would hear more about the Sheliak turning to goop instead of Sheliak prisoners.
Ohnari: Response
It could be that this particular Sheliak had information that was much more important than the rest of the prisoners, including the one that Thomas and Semara had interviewed. Still...
Melville-Kilpatrick: ::looking closer:: So you think it's natural? They can just ::wincing:: do that, on purpose? It could be a stress response, maybe. Or some...rather interesting genetic modification.
Ohnari: Response
Melville-Kilpatrick: Is it present in the other bodies, or just the General's? Maybe we should alert the others--just in case.
Ohnari: Response
