Ayemet had no idea if her transmission would be picked up by anyone, and that if it was it would be by someone friendlier than her Sheliak captors. It was a calculated risk encoding a Federation signal from a Sheliak shuttle, but on the small percentage that someone might be out there she had taken it. Still, she had more pressing concerns; the fractured warp core.
She let out a bitter laugh. If this was the Prophets’ will then they apparently did not want her to survive. Yet she still studied the console for any possible solution.
Jacin: There’s never an engineer around when you need one.
She had taken an engineering primer at the academy as had most cadets but her knowledge of the systems was rudimentary to say the least, and non existent for those of a Sheliak ship.
A bead of sweat ran down her brow as her search became more desperate.
Jacin: Computer ejected warp core.
The ship remained silent. There were no indication that the computer had even understood the instruction let alone was able to implant it.
How long had the distress call gone out? 10 minutes? Maybe 15? She hit her fists on the console in front of her in frustration, the only comforting thought being that if a Sheliak vessel did turn up she might take them out on the explosion.
Jacin: Okay if that was distress then maybe this is engineering control.
She punched a few buttons and a Sheliak voice echoed in the cabin.
Sheliak Shuttle Conputer: Confirm order to eject warp core.
Jacin: Order confirmed.
Once again silence greeted her. She tried inputing the desperate order on the console inform of her
Sheliak Shuttle Computer: Ejection impossible. Corrupted command code present. Reboot system to continue.
She sat back in her chair. He mysterious benefactors who had rescued her from the Sheliak had given her a chance. For that she was grateful. Their identity and reasons were unknown and as she seemed unable to prevent the warp core from eventually breaching, it seemed that she wouldn’t get the chance to thank them.
