((Deck 6, Sickbay, USS Khitomer))

Her guess had been correct . Ohnari was a brilliant surgeon and doctor and if they were to have any chance of finding a solution it would be due to her skills and diligence

Ohnari: Alright and Lieutenant Dewitt, ::handing over her PADD:: we're going to try and replicate a cellulose based delivery system in the hopes it can surround the damaged cells and keep them away from the internal matrix. We're going to have to pop open greenie over here, so once the replicator is finished, bring it over to me please.

A. Dewitt: On it Doctor.

R. Matthews: :: Moving to grab and put on the hazmat helmet :: Do we have a delivery system that would allow us to administer your concoction directly? Wait, how do you give a ship's Bio-neural network a shot?

A Dewitt: I don’t know how do you give a ship’s Bio-neural network a shot? In a glass?

She shrugged her shoulders. Perhaps humour was not the best option at this precise moment. The replicator finally produced the required pouch of blood cells and nanoparticles, a strange translucent quality to the contents, which gave it an almost ethereal appearance. She picked it up and handed it to Ohnari.

Ohnari: Standard infusion, but it's too late for our friend here, let's hope in its death, it shall give us the answers on how to prevent the same fate for its little friends....::bowing her head:: Sorry little thing...

R. Matthews: Levels are holding steady. I’ll give you a warning when I start seeing a drop.

Ohnari: Alright...::a swift bit of suction and transfer of the collection tube:: This will be our control. ::returning to the rapidly deflated gel-pack:: cellulose based matrix being introduced now....

Ayemet watched the physical means for which to work from had been produced but that was only half the battle now matters turned to the much more delicate matter of an individual’s skills. She had no doubt that her crewmates were up to the task, but would it be in time, and would it be enough?

R. Matthews: The sickbay, you lost power here too, right? What about backup power? :: his fingers danced across the keypad :: The Khitomer, does it have a separate system for sickbay? Or is it all primary?

A Dewitt: There is a secondary system that can act as a backup of sorts isn’t there Talia?

Ohnari: ::focus on the bag in front of her:: Sickbay has an auxiliary power source that is feeding off the primary life support network. Not the full department, but the surgical suites and several of the labs. It's limited though, about twelve hours max. And then it slowly feeds back into the primary life support until...well...if that fails....

R. Matthews: Okay, okay, that’s interesting and good to know. I can work with that.

Ayemet nodded. She looked at Matthews and Ohnari putting their plan into action. The whole hip must have been affected and although she had heard her husband’s voice over the comms system she could not help but worry for him and the rest of the ship.

A Dewitt: Be careful.

Ohnari: Ensign Matthews, check the output. Are you seeing a 30% increase or is that just me being overly hopeful? ::turning towards Ayemet:: Carefully, of course.

Ayemet shook her head. There was a time for bravado and a time for caution.

A Dewitt: I just don’t want to have to break in another two friends.

Matthews: Response

Ohnari: ::snorting:: I mean if I get taken out by a defunct goo bag....please make the story of my death way cooler. Like, I fought off six rabid Nausicaans giving you both a chance to escape.

Ayemet looked at Ohnari and shrugged.

A Dewitt: Too believable.

Matthews: Response

Ohnari Ooh I like the way you think. Alright, Ayemet, confirm Ensign Matthews on that percentage with the control. Still showing zero?

Ayemet checked the data. An advantage of working with a crew that went beyond simply being able to do the job and in-fact became as much of a certainty  as Connor choosing to spend his honeymoon in the engine room of the Khitomer was that there was no doubt that the percentage would be zero.

A Dewitt: Much like my chances at being promoted to Admiral it’s zero.

Matthews: Response

Ohnari: So we're increasing the ratio two percent...and sealing the pack...

Ohnari: ::shouting:: HIT THE DECK!!!

Ayemet looked over at her friend the alarm in her voice and suddenly rise in tension and alarm that radiated from her was cause for concern enough. It all happened in the blink of an eye. The warning the sudden and brutal rush of emotion and then..

A Dewitt: What the …

Matthews: Response

Computer: Warning. Biological containment failure detected. Warning. Possible injury may occur. Stay within the quarantine zone.

She was suddenly and violently thrown backwards. A wall of heat and air pushing her over an upturned table and slamming her against the cold sickbay floor. The metal plate at the back of her skull hit the floor and Ayemet saw stars before her.

Ohnari: You both ok?

A Dewitt: So you know that thing I said about being careful?

Matthews: Response

Ayemet felt the back of her head, the metal plate throbbing like a Nausicaan steel drum band. It didn’t appear to be bleeding and she gingerly got up looking at Matthews and Ohnari to check that they were unscathed.

Ohnari: So...two percent makes a bomb....::rubbing her forehead ridges in agitation:: Make a note Ensign. Lieutenant, we still got that control...?

A Dewitt: Love what you’ve done with the place. Reminds me of my cadet accommodations.

Matthews: Response

Ayemet brushed down her uniform and checked her console, which was still in working order, busy analysing data and  displaying the results as if nothing had happened.

A Dewitt:  Everything is intact, apart from my nerves.

Matthews/ Ohnari: Response

A Dewitt: You should sell that recipe at Quarks Bar. You’d make a fortune. One drink and boom!

Matthews/ Ohnari: Response
