Ensign Thomas Melville-Kilpatrick - Sharing Knowledge

Melville-Kilpatrick: Well, I hope Dr. Ohnari's warned you about Nurse Othin. She's capable and everything, but her presence might be intimidating to those who haven't met her.

Kmett: Nurse Othin...? ::He looked puzzled and shook his head.:: No, no one has mentioned her to me, and I haven't had the pleasure of meeting her yet. ::A curious smile crossed his face.:: What do you mean she's capable of anything?

Thomas considered the question. Othin was certainly capable, and he didn't want the new ensign to get a bad feeling just because of his own semi-serious warning.

Melville-Kilpatrick: Well, she's a bit brisk sometimes. It can be a little tough for those of us raised with human nurses--my dad, for example, was always insistent on a quieter type of bedside manner. But I trust her.

He thought of other things to mention, things that would be useful for him to know outside of the medical bay. Things that perhaps their seniors wouldn't have thought of or recalled.

Melville-Kilpatrick: Also, one of the junior officer quarters is...haunted, I think? Everyone's told me to keep out, so I do my best to stay away from it. There are signs, you can't miss it. ::mouth turning up in a slight smile:: And if you do, there are two capable doctors here to help you out.

Kmett: One of the junior officers' quarters is haunted? ::His eyes widened in delighted disbelief.:: Oh, please, you have to tell me more! You've made me incredibly curious. ::He laughed openly, clearly enjoying the story.:: You're telling me things that are far too intriguing to leave unexplained!

Melville-Kilpatrick: I would love to tell you, if I could. I just...haven't tested it yet. ::slight chuckle:: I've been a little too nervous to do much investigating.

Melville-Kilpatrick: So where are you coming from? Specialty-wise, that is. Got a favourite case you like to brag...er, talk about?

Kmett: I come from Bolarus IX, where I studied every aspect of medicine I possibly could. My specialty is infectious diseases. It's something of a personal—and family—mission for me. I've trained in many other areas of medicine as well, but I know there's still so much left to learn here. ::He looked around Sickbay with quiet admiration.:: That's actually what excites me the most. I know a great deal, yet when I look at the reality of medicine across the galaxy, I can't help but feel that I'm only just beginning. ::His attention returned to Melville-Kilpatrick, his curiosity unmistakable.:: What about you? What inspired you to become a doctor? And what's your specialty? ::A broad grin spread across his face.:: I'm honestly even more interested in hearing about that than the haunted officers' quarters.

Thomas nodded his head throughout his new fellow doctor's description, and it was quite detailed. It was good to have an idea of where one's fellow officers were coming from, especially if they would be working together on something as collaborative as medicine.

Melville-Kilpatrick: Emergency medicine. It wasn't even what got me interested in medicine, but I did a rotation and I liked it better than pretty much anything else.

Kmett: Response

Melville-Kilpatrick: I think I learned pretty early on that no matter what you specialize in, you'll get a chance to do a lot of learning on missions. I mean, I've only been on a few, and I've already had to go outside my comfort zone.

Kmett: Response

Melville-Kilpatrick:  Dr. Ohnari's a pretty good example of learning out here. Even if you're used to one thing, the ship will find a way to get you to learn something else. I like it. It reminds me that we've got to be ready for anything.
