((Jorogumo's Technological Bay))

Vidya: Do not struggle. The medical scans are about to begin.

A strange technological device moved down from the ceiling above. It was darkly colored and spherical in design and appeared to be partially organic. A number of tendril-like appendices extended down from its center in several directions and moved closing around Matthews on all sides. The ends were cone shaped and seemed to snake about on their own, inching ever so slowly forward on all sides of the male, making no sound as they moved closer. The male glanced up as it slid down, their eyebrows raising as the tendril-like appendices moved closer to the male.

Matthews: At least buy me dinner first. A little wining and dining before you have your way with me, yeah?

Assistant: ::to Vidya:: It would appear the male can speak after all.

Vidya: ::to the assistant:: Indeed. A bit of motivation from an unknown technological this male does not recognize will do that.

Vidya noted there was a time and place for nourishment, or dinning as the male spoke. Perhaps once she concluded her medical scans she would consider it.

Matthews: Oh don’t be so surprised. You did understand what I was saying, the translator was making the letters and numbers make sense to you all. Not my fault you didn’t clue in to it meaning something.

Or perhaps not. Vidya gave the male a ‘look’. Was he insinuating her intelligence was at fault?

Vidya: Your refusal to answer my Captain’s questions resulted in the conclusions given. What was the purpose of the numbers then? Why give anything else if you intend not to speak?

Matthews: Just a number I give instead of answering my captive’s questions. Though, considering what you have me doing right now, maybe I should give you my safe word? :: He winked :: Who am I kidding, I don’t need one of those.

Safe word? What context was this male speaking that a word would require it to be ‘safe’ Was that humor from the male? She wasn’t sure, but it was a concept lacking among Vidya’s people; it mattered not to her.

Although she didn’t need to give the male an explanation, she did so anyway in the hope he would cooperate further.

Vidya: The medical scans are necessary in order to confirm there is no contaminat to Velithari culture. You are alien and therefore have an unknown number of transmittal contaminations. It is necessary.

Matthews: :: Giving his unusual bindings a little tug :: Odd medical contraption though. Is it a sex thing? Are you guys like, man hating amazons who have kinky toys to make up for the lack of a man’s touch? I mean I get it. Every now and again I get tired of men too. Break out the toys. Then you wonder why you need a man anyway, am I right?

Assistant: Attempting to move your bindings will only prolong the necessary process.

Vidya ignored the male’s words at first, but then she decided she had enough of his chatter.

Vidya: We do not require a male as you speak, except to incubate. You are fortunate the Captain has stayed your life, otherwise you would be used, just as your enemies the She-lie-ak are for incubation to produce more Velithari. The crystallins however were not effective in incubation. I wonder if you are equally ineffective or not? Perhaps there is time to test that theory if you continue to noncomply without ‘reason’.

Assistant: Strange, this one uses odd forms of words in order to avoid discomfort. I see no purpose in his words.

Vidya: Such words would not be permitted among our males. It is unheard of for one to speak out of turn.

Matthews: :: Glancing up at the machine :: Don’t think I want anything this advanced though. I feel if it needs a power source that can also power a ship. Maybe that is not for me. I’m old school I guess. But you do you.

Was that fear that Vidya detected from the male or something else?

Vidya: Our technology is advanced for many cultures. We were able to avoid the Sen-sha that your culture did not. We are not at fault if your schooling is old and antiquated.

Matthews: So, since I don’t consent to the invasive and oddly phallic medical procedures. What do you say about switching that off and getting me some cloths, it’s cold in here.

As if on cue, the webbing dissolved what was left of the male’s clothing and its boots as well. There was nothing left. The male was bare, with nothing he was wearing on him that came on board, save for his helmet, which rested upon the bench just beyond the male's reach. Only the webbing like substance remained holding the male place.

Vidya: In order to ensure proper contaminant cleanser, all foreign material must be removed for cleansing. Exceptions would result in potential contingent for Velithari culture. Surely you must have similar procedures on your vessel for unknown alien contamination?

Matthews: Response

Assistant: Such an odd way to conduct medical procedures is it not?

Vidya: Indeed. I’m surprised the crew aboard their vessel are still functioning at full health capacity. ::to Matthews:: Your clothing presented a potential contagion. It had to be removed.

Matthews: Response

Vidya: I care not for your appearance without garments in a way you think. As I’ve explained, I care only about the safety of this crew. Of Velithari culture.

The assistant moved next to a monitor that lit up beside Vidya on the wall. A number of thick dark rectangular colors began to fluctuate up and down on the monitor with odd markings next to each one.

Assistant: Vitals are elevated, but within normal parameters.

Vidya: Very good. We shall proceed with the next phase of scans.

From the cone shaped pods at the ends of the tendrils, bright beams of light washed over the male in a low hum and surrounded him in its glow. The monitor on the wall lit up with an X-Ray displaying the various levels of the male’s organics under its skin. The image of the male's entire body moved about on the screen in a circular pattern.

Matthews: Response

The Muscular scans appeared first, then the vascular and so on until lastly the skeletal bone structure appeared. Vidya made note of a number of its organs and how they functioned or appeared to function when she wasn’t certain. The process took several minutes for each level of the male's anatomy. The dark rectangular colors on one side of the monitor continued to fluctuate up and down.

Vidya: ::checking the monitor:: Medical scans indicate a similar structure like most bipedal alien species. Their organs are placed differently than ours. It is highly probable they require no incubation in their reproduction.

Matthews: Response

Vidya: The Velithari are familiar with other cultures' matting rituals. This does not concern us, fascinating as it may be to your culture. It is oddly strange at best to Velithari.

A set of green symbols lit up and bleeped in the middle of the screen.

Assistant: ::computer bleeping:: Scans complete. The male is free of any known contamination to the Jorogumo or Velithari. Shall I begin cleanup?

Vidya: Yes, proceed.

The scanning lights at the end of the cone shaped tendrils turned off and moved away back into the sphere.

They were replaced with a second set of tendrils that were cylinder shaped, spraying a liquid that washed over the webbing much like water. The webbing then dissolved away leaving nothing, the male's body exposed to the cool air about the technological bay.

Matthews: Response

Vidya and the assistant ignored the male's words, as a third and final set of triangular shaped tendrils emerged alongside two mandibles. The mandibles held the male in place as the triangular shaped tendrils began wrapping the male in a silky weblike substance that matched the previous color of the male's science blue uniform. When complete, the silky weblike substance had created a one piece body suit that wrapped snuggly about him, exposing only their head and hands to the outside air.

Lastly a set of mandible-like appendages moved across from either side of the walls creating a cage made out of this organic mandible “logs” that rested criss-crisscrossing between the walls, separating the male on the inside and Vidya with her assistant both on the outside of the male’s prison.

The spherical organic medical device above the male retracted back into the ceiling above and out of view.

Vidya: ::to the assistant:: Take the medical results of these scans and present them to the Captain. She will want to know the results of the potential contaminat. ::to the male::

Now that the medical scans have been completed and you have been cleansed, I believe we may continue our ‘reason’ attempts if the male is finished with their banter?

I was instructed to ‘reason’ with you by my Captain. Such a request of reason is unheard of in Velithari culture with males. You are fortunate. Let us begin with a name and your stated function aboard your vessel.

The assistant left the room, leaving the two of them alone.

Matthews: Response
