Everything she planned had gone directly out the airlock. Her throat was thick and felt like at any moment it was just going to give up the ghost and cut off her air supply.

No. She could do this.

Ohnari: ::slightly strained:: It is my honor to...::her words trailed off, again in that impossibly high octave.::

Biting the inside of her cheek, she stemmed the floodgates of emotion....

El’Heem: ::whispering:: Breathe, doctor. We’ve been in tougher situations together.

Until that moment. His attempts to get her through this finally broke the last shred of dignity she had left. In front of the crew that had become her extended family, she dissolved entirely. An arm pulled her back into an embrace, it was Nolen. She could tell by his emotional imprint, that and the aftershave he wore on special occasions.

Hobart: That’ll do.

Before long, the ridiculous doctor was being passed down the line to whomever had a free hand to hang on to her emotional runaway train. No one could ever accuse her of not embracing her vocation with all ten fingers and toes. Seemed the Captain had drawn the short straw. Nothing said "welcome back" like an over emotional Haliian.

Shayne: Nolen… would you be so kind?

If she was in any way in control, she would have reveled in the irony of the two officers who had butted heads in regards to split second decisions. The even heavier dose of irony, is in her mind, Nolen wouldn't have questioned putting his own body on the line. However she knew better than to say it outloud.

Hobart: Lieutenant El’Heem. ::opening the box, handing it to El’Heem:: You have served this ship and its crew for more than a year, and in that time you have made yourself invaluable to us, officer and enlisted alike. ::removing the half-pip:: We look to you now as a leader among leaders, with all the respect and expectations that come with it. ::applying the full pip:: The men and women under you will rely upon your experience, good and ill, and the men and women above you will continue to see you as an ever-greater partner in command. I hereby promote you to the rank of Full Lieutenant, with all its commensurate privileges and responsibilities. Congratulations, Lieutenant.

El’Heem: I won’t waste the opportunity, sir.

The handshake, the affixing of the solid pip, and she was launching out of the Captain's arms without so much as a "Thanks Captain, sorry I made your uniform damp".

Ohnari: ::shoving her face in his chest, and hugging tightly:: I-I am s-so pr-proud of yoooouuuuu!!

Now her sodden face was shoved in the Kressari's chest. So she wasn't higher command material, it wasn't really that shocking. Anyone who spent more than five minutes with her, and it wasn't a mid-medical emergency, would have called that.

El'Heem: You knew, didn’t you? ::chuckling:: and you let me stew in it.

Finally, she felt capable of speech. Pulling back, she looked up at the towering Mushroom man and gave him a rather watery smirk.

Shayne: Knew, Lieutenant?

Ohnari: ::slightly nasally, given the saline gush:: I simply have no idea of what you speak.

Ras pulled away, and Talia attempted to mop off her face with a handkerchief that had appeared from...somewhere? A sniff, Nolen again. She decided she would return it washed...and possibly sanitized. Or burned..She'd make him another one.

El’Heem: Thank you Talia ::turning to the captain and shaking his hand:: and thank you captain. I won’t let you down.

Now she was beaming as pride radiated off her. One didn't need to be an empath to sense her joy. For a small amount of time, she'd been alone in Sickbay, after her fellow ranking Gorn had to return to handle some personal matters, and then again when Ensign Piweh and his amphibious appearance had to also leave, the Kressari had been not only her newest colleague, but also became her friend.

Ohnari: ::grinning:: Never a shadow of a doubt, Lieutenant.

As Ras exited the elevated area, Shayne returned to the mic.

Shayne: And with that, we conclude our… fourth?... fifth?... whatever… shore leave awards presentation. Eat, drink and be merry. Or else.

Semara: Ras!! Congratulations!!!

Michaels: Congratulations, Ras. This ceremony would have been a pale shadow of itself if you had not been promoted.

For a moment, Talia beamed as Ras was collecting his congratulations, as well as the well deserving Lieutenant JG Michaels. For a moment, she just sat back and let the fluffy cotton-candy coated congratulations roll around her senses. While they all may be from different planets, cultures, quadrants...when they were all together like this, they were their own weird brand of family. Which, given Talia's upbringing...it felt great.

It was then Talia noticed the buffet table was suspiciously barren of a certain citrus confection. Just as she assumed. Rolling her eyes in a confused, but personally flattering grimace, she excused herself from the throng of the well wishers and snuck to the secret stash of six trays behind the stage. Three trays loaded per arm, she made her way towards the buffet table.

Setting down the last of the tray, she noticed her newest fellow physician.

Ohnari: Doctor Harford! My apologies, I haven't seen you much on this shore leave, have you found your new quarters alright?

Harford: Response

Ohnari: Wonderful. Also, I wanted to thank you for your inventory upgrade, I haven't heard Othin actually giggle before. It was...honestly a little unnerving, but anything to avoid her fist in the deckplating when she can't find a laser scalpel again will be worth it.

Harford: Response

It was then she felt a breeze, strangely. Given the environmental controls usually being up to par in the holodeck and all, turning, a squawk of surprise left her lips, the six trays of lemon squares she had just set down were already half decimated.

Ohnari: How in the hells does this keep happening!?!?

Any: Response
