((OOC: Had to rewrite this sim and added in Michaels tags, as Michael’s sim went out before mine did and I missed seeing it until after I posted))
((Main Engineering, Deck 12, Khitomer))
The call the true First Officer had made to Lieutenant Semara on the bridge had ended. Vidya had some questions for him. Namely what was this SDA that he had mentioned several times already.
Vidya: SDA? Explain.
The XO turned slightly. Vidya waited with an almost directly through you look that indicated she wasn’t going to wait forever for an answer. They took a breath and spoke.
Dewitt: My apologies… SDA stands for Sencha Dispersion Array. It is a defensive systems Starfleet developed to counter the shots of Sencha radiation originating from Lattice Alliance vessels by dispersing its energy. The system is effective, but experimental.
Michaels: The SDA disperses the energy from the Sencha Wave across a broader surface and captures some by charging a capacitor. I believe your nebula does something similar with the light you receive from your home star. We can later fire a portion of that energy back at the Alliance ship.
This was interesting. A weapon that could disperse the energy from an attack by the Sen-sha on their vessel and fire back. Although they had been able to handle themselves against the first Alliance of Lettuce vessel and its Sen-sha, these new vessels posed a new threat. One of them included the largest ship the Velithari had encountered thus far. A Leviathan class vessel. Perhaps these Federations would be willing to share their technological? A weapon like this would be useful to Velithari.
Vidya gave a brief nod as the explanation was given.
Vidya: ::nods:: I see. So it is a weapon? ::to the XO:: You mentioned you have used this SDA before in another nebula? What were the results?
Valeris: ::To himself:: Nothing good, i’m assuming.
Did this male not know the answer? Perhaps not all their males were as knowledgeable as they had led the Velithari to believe. It was either that or they were not present in this other nebula. Why did the male feel the need to speak then, if they had nothing of value to add to the conversation?
The true First Officer shot the Commander a sharp look. A look that seemed to be of some sort of discipline perhaps? Vidya found it curious that males were disciplining other males. Something unheard of in Velithari culture. It was the females who did the disciplining.
Michaels: I prefer to think of it as a defense. :: pausing while looking at Vidya :: To be brief, most nebulas are merely collections of gas, dust and some rocks. Yours is the first one we have encountered with a biological component or extensive modifications like the ones you have made. There is far too much about your nebula that we do not understand for us to make accurate predictions about what a Sencha wave would do to it.
Yes she already knew what a nebula was and how it worked, but it would seem theirs is different than other nebulas?
Dewitt: It’s not a weapon. It is more like a shield. ::beat:: As for the last time we used it inside a nebula, it interacted with the material around us and sent a strong feedback pulse through the system that made us go dark for half a day.
Dark for half a day? Did this mean the Khit-o-more lost all power? Was that the intention of the words? Would this happen here in this nebula? What in that nebula could of caused this problem? She had more questions, but decided to wait and instead offer some advice.
Michaels: That is precisely correct. How your filaments will respond can not be determined.
Vidya: Then I would advise using caution within the nebula cloud until such a time you have preparation. You have advised, true First Officer, keeping the SDA away from the center is a wise decision. I concur with that assessment. I recommend getting as close to the edge of the nebula’s cloud as possible before its use.
Valeris: Least chance of damage, the better.
Dewitt: Thank you, Ma’am. I’ll pass that on to Lieutenant Semara by message. I would rather not need to use the SDA at all.
Michaels: We will not put your people or your ship in undue danger.
Vidya: Very well. That is your prerogative. ::looking about:: How shall I assist with the torpedoes? Will there be more transporting of masses away from them?
The XO took a deep breath while they sent the message.
Valeris: Masses and filaments around the launchers and magazines have been targeted. ::Tapping the console:: Beginning transport now. ::towards Vidya:: Sorry, there isn’t much to do but wait now.
Vidya stood and watched and waited for what would come next.
Dewitt: Good. Commander, the moment those bays are clean, give me a report. ::to Michaels:: How are the buffers handling the patterns, Lieutenant?
Michaels: We have them. The filaments are simpler than originally expected. The load in the transporter buffers is minimal.
Valeris: Should only be a few minutes, then we should have some freed up offenses.
The XO gave a nod. There was nothing for Vidya to say. She wasn’t much for small talk.
Then a damage control panel chirped from across the room. Vidya turned in that direction.
Dewitt: Report!
Michaels/Valeris: Response
Vidya checked the nearest console
Michaels: The ship is moving and the filaments that were plugging some of the holes are beginning to pull free. :: beat :: I am showing loss of atmosphere on several decks. :: I am initiating emergency forcefields.
Vidya: There are harmonic fluctuations along the hull of the vessel as well.
Dewitt: The vibrations of the ship must be a problem once the thrusters fired. ::tapping a few buttons:: Power generation is back at 34%. That’s enough for emergency forcefields around the hull breach plugging masses.
Michaels: Yes sir. It does not leave us much for other purposes including conventional shields.
Vidya continued to monitor from her console.
Vidya: Fluctuations are returning to nominal levels. Increased speed may cause additional vibration concerns.
Michaels/Valeris: Response
Dewitt: Alright… Inertial Dampeners are a new priority. ::beat:: What percentage of the masses have we removed?
Vidya: ::checks the offenses Valeris mentioned:: With the addition of the torpedo bays now cleared, approximately two thirds, or sixty six percent of the entire Khit-o-more vessel is freed. Just over fifty percent, half the vessel.
Michaels: I recommend a full stop to allow us more time to increase power generation and prepare a more permanent solution to the holes.
Vidya: I concur with Michaels. I recommend moving any non essential power to the inertial dampers and shields as a precaution as we remove the masses from the dampeners. It would ensure the dampers are less likely to go offline.
Dewitt / Michaels / Valeris: Response
Vidya: This is your vessel true First Officer. It is for you to decide if we full stop and which areas should divert power and how we fix the holes in this vessel.
Dewitt / Michaels / Valeris: Response
Vidya watched as power was taken from a variety of locations and systems. Some like the Holodecks she didn’t know what they did, but it wasn’t important enough to keep the power from being diverted.
Once that was done, Vidya checked the dampers.
Vidya: Dampeners are stable and… ::computer bleeps:: One of the masses is proving most difficult to remove from the dampeners. ::to everyone:: Assistance would be wise.
The Khitomer gave a brief shake. Vidya stabilized herself. The masses were not going without a fight.
Dewitt / Michaels / Valeris: Response
