((OOC Introduction.

For new joiners, we’ve simmed a lot of Zenno and his maybe girlfriend, the Vulcan Starfleet Nurse Saava. They went to the Academy together and played a lot of Parisses Squares competitively.

Some of the bigger ones: (Note that you don’t need to read any of this, it’s just if you have an interest. We wanted to catalog this for ourselves when revisiting this content.)

Saava & Zenno go on vacation

-Part 1: She Ain’t Heavy, She’s my Sister, Parts 1A and 1B

-Part 2: Serendipitous Shuttle Shenanigans, Parts 2A and 2B.
-Part 3: Don’t You (Forget About Me), Parts 3A and 3B.

Saava contacts Dr Ohnari about Zenno’s Diet

Lt Zenno & Lt Ohnari - Plomeek Soup Sandwich

In this sim: Lt Zenno & Ens Saava - Hours of Time on the Telephone Line, we learn that Saava is embarrassed about her family’s business. They own a series of hotels used by Vulcans when having Pon Farr away from home. The chain is called “Pon Farther” and Zenno does not know the specific purpose of the business.

There are a bunch of characters so here is a little Dramatis Personae.

Lt Zenno - Security Chief on the USS Khitomer

Ensign Saava - Nurse assigned to the USS White Pine, Academy classmate and past Parisses Squares teammate of Zenno

T’Vin: Saava’s Mother

Saavin: Saava’s Father

Sevik: Saava’s Brother, an artist

Sovin: T’Vin’s Chief of Staff & Personal Servant

Delvok: A young servant at Saava’s Family Estate

The message notification was quite insistent. It was illogical to expect it to extinguish on its own, but it would be most welcome if it did. Mother had been persistent and almost aggressive in her attempt to get Saava to come home and this was likely the last in a series of missives that demanded a reply.

Saava: Computer, play latest message.

The screen opened and T’Vin appeared, almost frozen in place. Only the movement of her mouth gave away that it was in fact a live recording.

T’Vin: Daughter. This message arrives to chide you. I have sent four unanswered communications. Unacceptable. I can only assume that you are struggling, as we predicted, with your Starfleet duties and are unable to manage your time correctly.

T’Vin paused momentarily, perhaps to let the barb sink in a bit before continuing.

T’Vin: We have made official enquiries through the Starfleet Offices in Vulcana Regar and found that you are available to join us for your cousin’s anniversary gathering. Your attendance is required and you cannot decline. Furthermore, we have invited the families of three qualified suitors. You will meet with them while you are here and then the family shall make the final selection.

She paused, but only for a moment. There was the slightest change in tone, imperceptible to anyone who didn’t know her as well as T’Vin’s own daughter.

T’Vin: You have delayed things long enough, daughter. We must do what is in the family’s best interest, and in your best interest as well. This is the right thing for you. Come home and we will make the proper arrangements. We will even hear your opinions on the suitors and give that some consideration.

Saava let her breath out slowly. Mother was not going to let this go at all. Sevik, her older brother, was supposed to be the chosen one in the family… marrying for status and taking over the family business. But his talents were decidedly not in the commercial realm and her parents had fixed their eyes on Saava to take his place.

She had fought that fight in her head again and again - not a particularly Vulcan thing to do. But she did not want all those arrangements at all. Saava sat down slowly on the bed and contemplated a logical course of action while T’Vin continued.

T’Vin: All has been arranged. I am sending the travel details and dates. ::Slight softening:: It will be acceptable to see you. It has been some time and we await your arrival.

And with that, the message ended. But Saava was still thinking.

The wheels turned for just a moment, and then she recalled a saying from Doctor Selenka, “There was a fly in the ointment.” The meaning was unclear at first, but after looking up the colloquialism, she decided that now was the time to put a Musca Domestica Linnaeus in the emollient of her parent’s plans. And it would be a joyful act.

Saava: Computer, confirm how many messages have been unanswered from Zenno.

Computer: *Bloop* You have 17 unanswered messages to Lieutenant Zenno.

Saava considered herself very easy to get along with. People had occasionally suggested to her that this wasn’t the case, but she knew they were incorrect. All that was required was yielding to her preferences and things went swimmingly. Her parents were the only ones that she was never able to convince about anything. Accordingly, words were not useful. It was time for action.

She had been very patient with Zenno. He was appealing, but rather dim when it came to understanding Vulcan feeling, in spite of her best efforts. Now, she would be putting him in a situation fraught with all kinds of peril. She would have never let him as close to her family as she was intending now, if the stakes were not as high. And she would have to withhold some of the details, otherwise he might not agree to participate.

Saava: Computer, send another message to Zenno. I wish to arrange a live call at a mutually agreeable time.
